Default Laser Cut Accessory Plate

Hey guys,

Decided to fire up the laser cutter today to replace the accessory plate in my Stingray. Thought I would see what you guys thought.

Very nice. What size Laser cutter do you need to do work like that? Which cutter do you have?

Looks like the beginnings of a pretty good side business to me...

Nice work and really looks sharp...

Thanks for the comments, I have a 50 watt C02 laser from Emmission technologies. I am no sure of the minimum requirements to cut plexiglass but mine zaps right through it. It nice when I need something made, I just whip it out in CAD and throw it on the laser, sure does beat a scroll saw!

I checked their web site, but could find no mention about the maximum size of wood their kit is able to cut, so I'll ask you.

What's the maximum size of wood their laser kit can cut?

I have never tested the maximum thickness. I never cut anything thicker than 1/8" on dense materials because of beam divergence that would affect accuracy on thicker parts and materials. I have cut 1/4 balsa with no problems. E-mail Robert Conway at his site, he can give you the real specs on what it can or cannot do.

Sorry, not thickness but maximum length and width. They have thickness on their site. I was curious about the bed size.

Thanks again,

Chris - You my already know this , but be careful when cutting plastics with the laser as they will give off toxic fumes.
I use several laser cutting houses and they refuse to cut Lexan for sure, and I know there are other plastics that are as lethel.
Acylic plastic is not suppose to be as bad.
Don't want to see any Jets boys go down in flames the hard way by accident.

Take care

Thanks Marty,

I was aware that it can't be too healthy, I have an enclosure over my cutter and a vaccuum bed that sucks all the fumes outside. I leave the blower running with the lid closed for about ten minutes for the fumes to disipate before removing the parts. I did try cutting polycarbonate once and that did not go over so well, ther was a lot of yellow smoke so I shut the laser off and vacated! I cut mostly wood parts for myself and others when they need it, helps feed the jet fuel addiction!
