It's probably been quoted somewhere amongst the many pages in the JJ threads, but what would be the max EGT for a JJ-3000 as I haven't seen anything but a single tailcone for these things?

The 3000 was/is still a two piece exhaust, it has an inner cone although the outer is similar in design to the smaller 1200/1400 single piece setups. BJ, you'll notice yours have an inner cone. The 3000's are a comparatively cool running engine, most of the ones I've seen will run ~570-600 at full noise and will spike to just on 700 during start, this is fairly normal and nothing to worry about. A nice cherry glow on the pipe is telling you the temps are in the "zone". If the colour turns to a brighter orange or red, it's time to do something about it. A "transitional" change in colour is normal during acceleration and should return to a dull cherry red when the rpms have stabilized.
The 3000's.... strangely for a Jet-Joe do actually make 30lbs of thrust, the ATJ-120Ti which is also a 30lb turbine will run a comparatively higher EGT and consistantly records well in excess of 31lbs and in some cases up to 33lbs on nice dense air.
If the start temp does climb too high, just adjust the "starter power during ramp" parameter and she'll drop the EGT accordingly, or alternately drop the gas a little. It's better to have a quick warm-ish start than a prolonged hot one. Each engine will react slightly differently to the parameters so adjust them to suit your individual engine, that's what they have adjustments for.
Cheers,
Smithy.

As always, your info is timely and helpful.
From memory, I usually see 800+ during the start process. I'll make a log of my temps for both my Turbines during the next spool-up and maybe we could work out which Parms might need a bit of tweaking?
I've also noticed that my 'fuel ramp' phase seems to take a fair while, although I can shut the Propane off fairly early on in the piece. i.e. I can turn the gas off at the bottle pretty much as soon as I hear the revs build and see the fuel moving in the fuel line, but it takes a while before I see 'Running' on the Monitor. I'll see if I can get some decent timings for each phase so that I have some 'accurate' stats for this.

PS - the JJ-3000 runs a 'two-piece' cone? I only notice one 'cone' piece coming out of the rear. Am I missing something here?

Hey BJ,
Is this not a photo of your engines?? They speak for themselves..! I'm sure I can see inner cones in them..!!
Cheers,
Smithy.

Oh... I see what you mean Smithy!
When I read 'two piece tail cone'... I tend visualize those things where the outer and inner cone are two obvious concentric cones...
A la Xair's pics from his Turbine rebuild page.

okay.... We are getting off topic and the mods will probably delete some of theses posts.
But we are just haven fun and a little stress break from the turbine talks... So did everyone
have a good easter with family ?

I think the Mods are pretty reasonable. A bit of friendly banter is always welcome in my book. It's good to have a bit of a laugh every now and then...
And yep - a good Easter was had here.
We do the 'continental' thing for breakfast over at my Mom's. All the Deli goodies etc. Yum.
I wanted to fire my twins up over the weekend, but thought better of it rather than annoy everyone in the neighbourhood.
Still, today ain't over yet
Could still be tempted into it.
It is after, only a public holiday Monday now. If I hear someone start up a lawnmower in the street, I might just go for it.
BTW - I was reading on another Blog about Jet powered RC Boats. But they all seem to use a Turbine to shaft-drive a prop. Has anyone seen Turbines used to power RC Boats on thrust alone - a la Donald Campbell etc? I'd be very interested to see what sort of speeds I could pull using two JJ-3000's...

I have a friend that has done a bell jet ranger turbine in a speed boat , he tried it once but found it very hard to slow down even when he killed the turbine, so I imagine a rc turbine boat would be the same, the shaft/ prop does act as a brake . But it would be fun.

Mmmmmm....
Something along the lines of one of these would be NOICE http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_17...tm.htm#1746461
Will have a hunt around to see if there's any plans available etc...

Looks like he lowered his prices for complete RTR packages.

Either way, the price on the JJ-3000 Combo is still the same...

Jetlegend F-15c flight #2
JetJoe 3000 engine, great power plant
. most of the flight was 70% throttle or less.
Air temp here is 32c today and humidity 15%.

I think you will find that all of the new generation JJ engines run very good without having to tinker with them like the problems they used to have. I just picked one up of the new generations and they have made some drastic changes. I will be using a ProJet Hornet ECU with the optical pickup. There is a YouTube video of a guy that has one on a JJ1400 and it spools quick. If you do buy one get it from Mark Harper www.jetjoecentral.com as he will go thru the entire engine and prerun and preset it up for you so you will have no problems with it and it will be the same price as the main site in china.

Mate - you have no idea how refreshing it is to finally see something positive posted about a Jet-Joe again
This is a top video - crisp and clear, and I loved the way we could see the rear suspension working on both take-off and landing.
A few extra cam-angles to see that magnificent 'desert' landscape from a few different perspectives would have been a bonus.
Are you running a single '3000 or twins on the F-15?
My long-term project of a 1/10 or larger F-111 has basically stalled at the moment - there's a 'kit' available now, and I have a lot of work to do if I want to continue my scratch-build. Plus I still can't fly all that well. But I'm itching to run my Twins in something - so some form of jet-thrust 'boat' might just have to do in the interim.
Many thanks again for posting this - it has rekindled my enthusiasm.
Well done...
