Aren't rumors just great!!!

Yeah, too bad Joe is subject of them so often.

My JJ1400 will arrive today, so I'll soon see if all the rumors about exploding turbines are true

(nah, I have faith in our chinese friends.. Remember the DL-50 'clone' ? )

Who introduced the word Rumour into this thread..?..

Some guy once told me that the trouble with rumours is they often fester into fact...suppose thats just a twist on the 'No smoke without..." blather.

Good luck !

Dave.

Unpacked the JJ1400 yesterday, I'm a happy puppy!

All looks in great order. Spinned the motor with the starter, and it runs smooth. Will try to fire it up tomorrow.

It was definitely (test) run, exhaust cone is a nice blueish color, and running it up with the starter motor, it smelled like kerosine. (have to get used to that smell...)

I got the nades ECU with it, today I'm going to solder the battery-connectors and mount it on a test-stand. Should be able to run it tomorrow. I'm not expecting any major issues there. Overall, a nicely built motor. Didn't disassemble it yet, but I'm probably not going to after the first run or so.

"I got the nades ECU with it "

Hey Hans, is the nades a preferred option ? How much more $ ?

Keep posting your build and start up progress. It should prove interesting.

Also, why are you planning to disassemble it ? ? ?

Guys,

My friend put his new JJ1400 on the test stand and we fired it up, it works really well but there's one thing a little iritating.

This engine is with the NADES full auto ECU unit - and when on the start sequence, at the point that the gas solenoid closes (stock value was i think 30K RPM) the engine puffs for a few seconds (sometimes 10-20 secs with poof poof poof noises), during the time the RPM stays about steady or sometimes even drops again to 27K which engages the starter again.
after this, it accelerates to idle nicely. during this whole stage the ECU reads FUEL RAMP.

anyway, to varify this is the gas solenoid we upped the GAS OFF RPM to 32K, and this happend at 32K, so i tried it without the GAS solenoid, and this avoided the whole poofing situation.

anyway, any idea how we could get rid of this ? besdes this, the engine runs perfect !!

Try reversing the line on the gas solenoid.

The nades full auto ECU is $300.00 the Regal is $200.00. The Regal ECU works well (once setup)and is reliable.

This solenoids are made to flow in one direction. If lines are reversed gas pressure can force solenoid open or not allow it to seal and cause the puffing.

It continues to AMAZE me that thus junk is still being sold. After 2+ years he can't get 2 in a row to run out of the box. A Wren MW54 kit is not much more money and will run circles around a JunkJoe. Trouble is beginners get it becase it is cheap and invest alot of money only to have posts like any one of the HUNDREDS above!

Sounds like the owner had the valve installed incorrectly...so how exactly does that reflect on the JJ engine? From what I can see, people do have success with these engines. Clearly you have no use for them, the bigger question is why you feel the need to bash? Maybe not everyone can afford a Wren or a Jet Cat but they are participating as their budget allows. Whats wrong with that?

Frankly, I would be willing to bet that the JJ owners know a whole lot more when it comes to turbine engine operation than most as they have had to work their way through whatever problems might come up. Some engines are so easy anyone can run them, guess thats why they are so popular....

OH BROTHER!

Most NEED to know to get them to even run! I'll bet there are many more satisfied JetCat, Wren, Artes, etc owners, as a percentage, than with JunkJoe. Should a beginner to turbines have an aeronautical degree or at least an A&P license to enjoy it? All I read is how it's on a test stand. I've NEVER had a turbine on a test stand nor do I intend to mount one of mine on it. My turbines FLY models, not the bench.

The need to bash? No not bashing, telling the truth is more like it. A manual with proper English, diagrams, etc would have prevented the incorrect hookup? Hard to say. I've never seen a copy of the documents that are included with a JunkJoe, either from US folks or direct from China. CAN SOMEONE POST THEM?

Lets hear from those JunkJoe owners who have opened the box, mounted it on a plane, started it and flew it for say, 15 hours without having to fiddle with it other than change the glow plug? No replacement parts, returns to China, etc. Not impossible, just highly unlikely.

I'd like to also hear from those who have NOT been able to opened the box, mounted it on a plane, started it and flew for say, 15 hours without having to fiddle with it.

From what I see here in this thread is countless posts about this being wrong, flames, etc. How many posts have stated success from the gitgo? A very low percentage.

Lets not sugar coat this. These turbines are a poor copy to boot. Its NOT like they know what makes a turbine run. Heck, they can't even have CNC machined parts produced correctly. I have yet had to tape my jetcat together to prevent any air leaks. Beginners not getting a manual either is what? A good thing?

I'll say it again... JunkJoe for those that would rather fiddle than fly.

PROVE me wrong?

I always feel great about myself! I'm surprised you think I'm feeling poor? Actually, I feel sorry for all the JunkJoe owners.
Thanks for caring. Yes I am a bit bored as I don't have to spend any time fiddling to get my turbines to run.

I do wonder how many will post trouble free from day one operation at 15 hours vs those that aren't so lucky?

Care to comment on YOUR experience with JunkJoe?

On the harmonic vibration at 80k if you are NOT using the pre-load this can cause this. It did to us. We installed the pre-load and no more issues. If it needs balancing RTI is the ticket.

On the F-14 setup, i ran a 1400 auto start this weekend. It does great. Started everytime, except one, we forgot to turn the fuel on. [&o] . Cools down well also. Russ
What's the address for RTI ?

Glad your feeling about your wits Dave... would hate for you to feel under the weather over the holidays. Sorry you are bored, I'm currently adding a Tams F-16 to my fleet and yes, I am putting in my JJ-1800 thats run flawlessly for me since the day i got it. Ramps up rather quickly which took me by surprise since I'm used to the Artes line, but other than that, no problems. I do have to add that I got mine through Gabe though. I believe that makes all the difference in the world. I dont have 15hours just yet, but I'll let you know soon as I do, I dont think It'll be a problem. My beef here is that I occasionally poke in this thread to read on the ups and downs of this engine. I come here to see what people are putting these little engines in, I come here to learn, NOT to get unscrupulous statements by someone obviously upset by the natural evolution of technology. Yes, Wren engines are great, JetCats are great, Artes is great..etc etc (sorry if I left someone out), but that doesnt give you the right to come here on your high horse and put not only the engine down, but everyone that owns one. Its already been said bro, no need to beat a dead horse. Do you have some pent up emotions Dave...Santa not bring you what you wanted this year? Anyone can come here and read the early begginings of this engine and then make up thier own minds as to what they want to spend thier hard earned money on. Lets live and let live bro..shall we.

Dave,

There are those in this thread who have had success out of the box. They purchased their engines recently from Gabe at JetJoe USA. That is in this thread.

My engine, once it was upgraded, worked fine out of the box from Joe in China. It was early engine I purchased, by accident, from a crook in New York via Ebay. Once, I contacted JetJoe and gave them the serial number, a flaw with that batch of engines was acknowledged. They upgraded it for free, Ok, postage. It has run, out of the box, since then. No fiddling etc. It just runs. I didn't do anything to get it to run after it's return from upgrading.

So, don't speak of the past, speak of the present. Many on this thread have and have had a fair experience with the JetJoes. So, as Luis said. Lets stick to the thread and discuss the present and future. Especially, since you acknowledge you have no direct experience with Jetjoes.

Luis,
I've not gotten personal on any of my posts with anyone here that has posted. I do resent to jabs about Santa, etc. Do it again and I'll report the post. Kapesh bro?

Now back to JunkJoe....Lets here from actual owners as I asked in the post above. How many can say AOK from the Gitgo and how many can say "poo poo" from the Gitgo????

Hey... How about a Poll on JJ users?

BTW..... My posts are welcomed to be deleted IF I broken any posting rules.

Maybe Gabe can post the percentage of JJ1400's he's sold that has made 15 hours with nothing more than a glow plug change? I'll even allow a starter Oring.
