Can anybody tell me what these holes are for ?

and do they need to be blocked off with screws to stop air escaping ?

Hey BJ

Im Back did you miss me ?
Oh yeh...HEAPS!.... *mwah*... LoL

Fired the JJ-3000 up again on the weekend - had a mate over with a HD Cam and a Hero HD micro-cam. I hope we got some decent footage (haven't got the vid files yet).

If there's some good shots on there, I'll make a little vid and post it up on YouTube.

I won't be quite as contrasty as the last one, seeing as it was shot a bit earlier in the evening (last one was waaaaay past the kids next door's bedtime *oops* [:-] ) But it's all shot in HD, so hopefully I can get a few good segments...

Was bending the extra bracket up tonight so I can mount Turbine #2 and start learning how to start Twins...

The plug of thermocouple is confirmed connected correctly at the time. I have no a good thermometer to calibrate my thermocouple but it does indicate the readings close to ambient temperature before engine starts. I think the reason could be length of thermocouple end inside the nozzle reduced due to vibration. The other reason may be that the temperature of cool spot is detected in the exhaust nozzle. Maybe two more thermocouples installed can get average EGT but ECU does not calculate.

Fit the EGT probe at 5 oclock to the glow plug this is meant to be the hottest at startup anyway, so I read!

....putting the EGT at the *hottest* place in the exhaust stream may cause erratic starts - the 'hot spot' is often well over-temp compared to the rest of the Turbine. Your FADEC will no doubt have an over-temp shut-down parm. Exceed that, and the whole thing shuts down. Bad luck if that happens during start-up - you'll never get a good start.

My JJ-3000, for example, will easily pull in excess of 700 deg C on spool-up. And the T/C is at 10 o'clock. When I'm running 3/4 to full power, it's around 600 deg. There's a LOT of fuel and air flowing through there when the power is up, and from what I've seen on my monitor, it starts to get a lot cooler once the Turbine is actually running as opposed to starting...

'Progress Report' on the "Twins":

Slowly modifying the Test-Bench to cater for 2 JJ-3000's.

The new starboard side donk looks like it's copped a bit of a 'shiner' with it's blue cowl, so the Test-Bench looks a bit like one of those patch-eyed dogs LoL

Joe said he'd send me a plain aluminium coloured cowl so they both match (I prefer the Ali colour to the blue anodised one...)

Can't wait to hear what they sound like both fired up together....

BJ

PS - Pr-ICK of a site won't post my pics... so I'll try them one by one....

Oh.....that's right.... it's 2010 - a brand new year....

You guys in the 'Motherland' already used up your 2 whole days of sunshine for 2009, but you get 2 more this year

I'd be careful and spread them out a bit - you wouldn't want to use them all up at once... LoL
