Blimey, all these 3D type videos are really making me feel ill, I must admit to prefering the smoother jet type videos where the distorsion is not as great and looking forward with more of a pilots perspective.

I got my CVS DV cam working today. The part of the process I found confusing is the hardware hack v3 on boot up of the camera at http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1577 .
Once you are successful with getting the cam to boot up in the preview mode without status or time info you are done with that process. But the confusing part is that the NEXT TIME you boot the camera it will go through its NORMAL CVS boot screen, there is NO indication at this point that the hack was done. But the hack is done and you are ready to connect it to your computer and unlock it with OPS 13. If it unlocks you are good to go.
I put the USB port on the side of the cam as you can see below. The USB connector came off some old computer parts I had laying around and the USB cable was $2 at Delta Computers in Atlanta. You will also need the XviD Codec; found here http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/ to view the videos with Windows Media Player 10.

I hacked several of the CVS video cameras and installed two of them in Pin Cushion. One is in the front canopy facing forward and the other is installed on the rear bulkhead facing aft. Last weekend, Joe Rafalowski and I experimented doing some loose formation flying with the CAMs at the Lake Wales event:

Hi guys,
stumbled over this thread while having some time on a boring rainy november day here in germany.
So, unfortunately I am not able to get a similar camera here in germany while nobody has a "DVD service" in his offer.
Would it be possible for anybody to send me one of these cameras, ideal modified!! I will pay for all costs (shipping hardware and a modification fee
.
It would be very nice because I ever wanted to see how it looks like from the cockpit of my F-22!!!
Thanks in advance
Andreas
P.S. Please PM me regarding this or send a mail to andreas(at)modelljets.com

Great video and great music and exceptional flying!!
Did you use the mirror/lens setup and could you post pictures of your setup?
Best Regards
Ben

I mounted one camera in the cockpit canopy facing forward and another on the rear bulkhead facing aft so I didn't need to use the mirror setup or the taped on mount that Scott Stauffer was using at the Super Jet South event. Both cameras are permantly mounted inside the airplane. I had to make a guide tube for turning the aft camera's recording mode on/off with the end of a 4-40 ball wrench whereas I am able to easily access the canopy mounted camera directly. I will try to put together a small writeup with photos on the Georgia Jets website soon and I will put a link here afterwards once the writeup is posted.
FYI,

If you have not gotten anybody to send you one, I will get one, make the modifications and send it to you.
Your total cost should be the cost of material (Camera, USB cable, Futaba or JR RX pigtail) and postage.
Regards
Ben

Yes I did and sent you a reply which you replied to (Have you forgotten). I picked up the Cams for you and your friend today. I have them partially built but would like to know the type of RX you have for the RX pigtail. (JR or Futaba). How would you like it sent? (FEDEX or US post office?)
Best Regards

Thanks Ben!! I guess that you didn't see my earlier post....The closest CVS store is a 1 1/2 hour round trip and I don't know what to look for concerning the right lot #'s, model type, etc.
So......Ben if you would hook me up I would GREATLY appreciate it!!!
Let me know the total cost via sending it Postal Priority mail. (As light as it is it should be around $4) Oh---JR pigtails please!!! (Friends don't let friends fly Futaba!!!)
Again...THANKS!!!! Kevin

For those that care to know how much this baby cost here you go:
Camcoder $29.99 + Indiana tax 6% ( I should have bought a lot last week when it was on sell for $25.99)
Portable USB 2.0 cable and adapter kit from Big Lots Model # 60-300 ( I keep the adapters) $9.99 + Tax
RX pigtail $5.00 (Tax included)
Dean Micro Plug 4R P.N 1242 (each pack contains male and female connector) $2.00 + Indian tax
Postage (depends on where you are. You pay whatever they charge me baased on how you want it sent)
Burn CD that contains OPS and codec for the video ($5.00). This is a free software and you can download it yourself and save few $$ from here: BillW's Windows GUI downloader, Ops:
https://sourceforge.net/project/show...roup_id=145193
Total cost for CAM + materials without CD & postage = $49.00
Total cost for CAM + material + CD =$54.00
In US add $4.00 for USPS priority mail.
If you pay by paypal, I will include paypal service charge.

Has anyone figured out how to isolate the camera lense from the rest of the workings yet???

After frying 2 cams I gave up. Maybe somebody "smarter" than me would figure it out and let us know.
Will PM a tracking # (USPS priority mail) out to you tomorrow

There's no one smarter (or even smatter!) than you Ben..... you're a moderator!!!!
I have bought 6 of these now (2 for me, 2 for each kid as a primary and a spare). And I have several neighbors that want me to convert some for their kids. These things are GREAT!!!

Anyone tried separating the camera head from the main board and attaching it with a cable? if it can be done, it'd be easy to stick one of these in a chubby looking dummy centreline tank!
I'm planning try it when mine get her (thanks again Ben). I think they're still stuck in customs though... [
] I saw these pictures on Ebay; it looks doable if the connector can be found in an electronics catalogue somewhere...

ok got the camera unlocked and succesfully downloaded videos, i must have the latest version of software 3.62? anyway i used a link that seanreit posted about tapping the wire on the resistor, tried a few different times powered up, down, also got the goofy numbers on my screen, but eventually it unlocked. now i got to work on downloading those codecs. thanks, awesome thread, 32 bucks, had an old printer cable, and a servo extension, i just pulled the orange wire out, used the red and brown powered up through the usb connection. the battery light allways flashes now i assume, thats becuase it must monitor batt. power somewhere in between the old "aa" conection and the micro, and not when connected to usb or powered up there likewise. the only problem i see is with this configuration is that if i power down with the cam button it wont power back up with the cam button, cycle the reciever switch and its back on? also after recording a vid, when i hit the rec. button to stop recording, it powers down, but saves the video, again wont power up with cam switch, but comes back on when i cycle the reciever switch. should i connect the r/c power source in the same fashion as the "aa" through that 4 pin berg connector? or just leave it?
