Kelly--it does look simple enough---I count 11 pins in your pic. I have ample access to edge connectors with ribbon cables attached. I'll have to look around and see what I come up with. Pin count doesn't concern me--It's the spacing that matters. You can take a 20 pin edge connector and cut it down to 11 very easily. (I've had to do this at work when we didn't have the right pin count ribbon cable.) Since it appears that you will need to have both male and female ends---A trip to the electronics store for pins may be in order as ribbon cables w/edge connectors have both ends gendered female. I have plenty of these small gold plated pins that can be soldered to a wire or cut and inserted into a female edge connector to conver it to male. Penny is for size comparison. Look for sales of these cameras to explode within our ranks when the right cable is found!!! When I get mine I'll see what I can do.

Nope, not yet. I think customs is jacking me around. That's nothing new... I hope to see it in another day or so.

Here's just one of the many cool cables I've collected over the years....This is a shielded USB to 5 pin edge connector cable. Makes it easy to add the USB cable to these cameras. Has anyone converted one to Fire Wire---I've got lots of those too.

Ben is a pretty smart fella and he's burned up two cameras trying---I'm wondering why a straight "pin to pin" cable wouldn't work?!?!?!??? Only shorting a wire or two should burn up the camera.

Ben, can you chime in here and let us know what you've tried???[8D]

ok got the camera unlocked and succesfully downloaded videos, i must have the latest version of software 3.62? anyway i used a link that seanreit posted about tapping the wire on the resistor, tried a few different times powered up, down, also got the goofy numbers on my screen, but eventually it unlocked. now i got to work on downloading those codecs. thanks, awesome thread, 32 bucks, had an old printer cable, and a servo extension, i just pulled the orange wire out, used the red and brown powered up through the usb connection. the battery light allways flashes now i assume, thats becuase it must monitor batt. power somewhere in between the old "aa" conection and the micro, and not when connected to usb or powered up there likewise. the only problem i see is with this configuration is that if i power down with the cam button it wont power back up with the cam button, cycle the reciever switch and its back on? also after recording a vid, when i hit the rec. button to stop recording, it powers down, but saves the video, again wont power up with cam switch, but comes back on when i cycle the reciever switch. should i connect the r/c power source in the same fashion as the "aa" through that 4 pin berg connector? or just leave it?
If you tap the power from the USB 5V source from the J5 interface connector, you can not power the system back on after you power it off without recycling your RX. You can tap the 3v source from the J5 interface connector to avoiding recycling but that would limit you to only 3v battery source and you can not connect it to your TX.

On my Raptor 60 Heli, I have a separate battery source just for the cam. I modified a separate RX switch to accept direct battery & Cam pigtail plug-in then use the switch to power cycle the cam.

Regards

Ben

Thanks Ben, sounds like it'll be here shortly! Can't wait to start working on that tank design for under my HotSpot!!![8D] A friend has a CNC router and he's been talking about trying to make moulds...

Kevin, I agree it looks not sooooo bad at first glance. I'm gonna work on it with a fellow electronics guy at work to identify the appropriate connectors. I'm just a dumb mech engineer, but I work for company that makes automated laser imaging equipment for the graphic arts / printing industry. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find the right connector, or one that'll work in it place, with a little digging. I can see virtually every jet pilot with one of these things once an optimized mounting system is figgr'd out for a forward mounted camera position!

See post #103 for url to the cam schematics.

BTW, I've connected a 6v pack to the cam (wired through the USB 5V pin) and it works also. You are just not limited to 4.8V.

Hi Ben,
so I need a Futaba Pigtail! I think Fed Ex is the easiest way?? If US Postal is cheaper than use this. Anyway it's winter here but you can be sure I will try it as soon as possible with my litlle Foamy bomber (Multiplex Twinstar) just to have a result

Why use a tank?. Just do what I did with my new HS and you will ready to go.

I removed the pilot from cockpit and replaced it with this modified Cam (Just cutoff the battery compartment of the cam)

I used Gorden’s method to turn it on and off (See his post on previous page)

Hi Ben,

Hmmmmmmm!!!!, I just do not like the "F" word (lol and pun intended). I will stop by my LHS tomorrow and pick the Futaba pigtail for you. The Cam is ready, all I have to do is attach the pigtail. (I made one for you and per your request, one for your friend)

Best Regards

Ben

BTW, PM your address to me or have you done so?

yeah, I know. I'm just trying to make it universal for a few jets. That and I don't wan to distort the video with my scratched up canopy... Its just dreaming for now though. I see what I can do in time for next flying season!

So......Ben if you would hook me up I would GREATLY appreciate it!!! Let me know the total cost via sending it Postal Priority mail. (As light as it is it should be around $4) Oh---JR pigtails please!!! (Friends don't let friends fly Futaba!!!)

Again...THANKS!!!! Kevin
Will send you a tracking # tomorrow evening. PM your address to me.

Regards

Ben
KG

I sent you a PM with your tracking #.

I did not include the OPS software because I consider you to be computer savvy and you can easily download the OPS quick install from BillW’s Windows GUI downloader, Ops:
https://sourceforge.net/project/show...roup_id=145193

You can get the codec from http://download.divxmovies.com/XviD-1.0.3-20122004.exe

They are done and I will send them out once I receive fund. I normally send out Cameras to people here in US and Canada without first of all receiving fund but the ones going across the river have to be paid for. I will go to FedEx tomorrow to find out what the shipping cost would be. I will PM you later tomorrow evening.

Best Regards

Ben

It was pretty funny, but they didn't read it or even open the box. They just handed me a bill upon receiving it. Like Einstein said, there are two things in life that are certain, death and taxes! (That was Einstein wasn't it???)

I took them to work and showed a few guys. Wanna build a few more?

Hey Matt and others hunting for this connector,
Have a look here: http://camerahacking.mine.nu/phils/d..._A_2_Model.pdf

Its a 22 pin connector, but that's about as much as I know so far... The guys on the hacking sites are talking about using mirrors to change the camera angle, someone's gotta make this cable and brake the ice for everyone in the R/C world!

Kelly

Edit: clearly we're not the 1st guys to have gone down this path... http://camerahacks.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=667
