Vmax, how do you build them? Are they all composite? What, if anything, do you do special on the surfaces to stave off flutter? Thanks.

Hi woketman,
the wing/fuselage and the stabs are made with the honeycomb technic.
The ruders are glas and epoxy only.
The weight of one ruder is approx. 3 ounces.
The whole structre without painting or anything build within is approx. 4 pounds and notice this is a very small plane.
The whole plane is very stiff.

Yeah, I would imagine it has to be VERY stiff. Thanks Vmax.

Mark commented on GPS, don't underestimate its accuracy. When I was flying the 767 I compared the GPS speeds with our (extremely accurate) IRS readouts they were spot on and now diffential GPS is available we can expect some very accurate position recording too. We will be reviewing the JetCat GPS in detail in RCJI just as soon as Bob gets my unit here. Flight tests will be in a160 powered F15

Default My two cents

Hello all,
I'm an ex-modeller who just happened to come across this forum and would like to comment on a couple of things which I believe are relevant.
1st:
About the speed claims. I'm definately not the bright kid on the block but, if the GPS reads the highest speed, then couldn't it be possible that it's reading the acceleration from 0Mph to whatever the speed is the next time it gets a position fix? This means to me that it's reading acceleration as velocity, which could possibly give a false reading. Maybe there's a math genius among you who knows how to calculate:
Time interval between fixes
Speed of aircraft at 2nd position fix
(Somehow) calculate acceleration into velocity. (And yes, this figure will change with different engines depending on different engine weight, how far the elastic is stretched back etc.)

Or maybe just add another servo to activate the GPS "in-flight"

Just a suggestion, i'm probably miles away.

2nd:
The reason I am an EX modeller is as follows.(Sorry about all the B.S. but some of you guys need to remember why you do this)
In a sport that struggles to gain popularity, where the amazing experience that is, aeromodelling, first grips you and then drags you into it's exciting realm, I find there is nothing more dissapointing than to eventually see the dark side of this sport.
I was completely obsessed with model aircraft for around 15 years, the later part of which I decided to get more involved by occupying different positions in my club. It was in these last 5 years that I lost the love for this wonderful sport. I was suddenly thrown into a weekend of bickering, snide remarks and back-stabbing which eventually stopped me from enjoying what I was doing. You're all here because you have a passion for something, JETS, don't worry so much about what the other guy is doing or how he may have something better than you, don't lose the memory of your first solo, loop, jet or comp. This is your time to do something you enjoy. God knows we all work hard enough to deserve it.
So, ENJOY it and if enjoying it means you have to give **** to another person, then you are a threat to the future of aeromodelling and quite possibly a general pain in the ass. How can you expect new people to be enthusiastic in a sport when they hear (or read. Power of the internet) all this *****ing.
Well I could go on (*****ing) but I think i've made my point.

Relax and most of all, ENJOY.

P.S. My intentions are not to insult anyone at all. Sorry if I have.

Kind regards for Christmas and may all your stockings be full of retracts and Zap and Dubro and O.S. and J.R. and Futaba and and and and......

Time interval between fixes. That is how it works.

Delta X (position) /Delta time = Velocity. That is the very definition of velocity. THis is how GPS works. This cannot be confused with acceleration

THis idea that it is somehow measure accelerate of the launch is not right.

BTW I am a club officer and i understand you completely :-(

Vmax,

Your jet is awesome! Thanks for sharing the video clips. I can only wonder what type of skill it must take to fly a jet so fast! Nice job!
