A friend built one for turbine, he did upgrade the elevator shafts. May have been 8mm, I'm not sure. I'll get him to chime in later and let you know. I think he made some kind of jig as well to keep everthing in line. He replaced the sleeves as well. Good luck with it, it's a very nice flying plane.

I have the heavy duty turbine version and they are 8mm carbon shafts. I have smacked the stab on the pavement a couple of times and they suffered no damage.

A friend upgraded his Avonds F15 to turbine and did not change the shafts from the 6mm originals.
The model was powered by a TJT2500 and unfortunately was lost after one taileron shaft broke. It could not be determined if there was any prior damage to the shaft i.e. any nicks in the carbon shaft before the crash.
For peace of mind I would change them out.

Russell.

I am also rebuilding an Avonds Eagle for (twin) turbine. Threw out the 6mm ones, replaced with 8mm. I even considered going to 9 or 10mm...
From an engineering calculation point of view the 6mm will be plenty, but be sure never ever to nick, hit or dent the stabi hardpoint....else it is likely to fail.
So common sense sais: go safe, go 8mm.

Built mine in 1999 and has logged over 300 flights since with the old 6 mm shafts. A KJ66 with 85N thrust pushes it forward, would reconsider it though if I would upgrade it to 120N.

Good luck with you maiden....hope the weather will help a bit!!!!!

Best regards,
Gerald
