I used a regulator I got from Don's Hobbies (US), I wish I kept track of what brand it was. It was on the ignition of a DA 150 (Gas motor). It failed in the off position. If this was on a rx I would have lost the plane.
I have never used a regulator with 6v duralite or nicad and I have not experienced any problems with my JR recievers.
Anyway, if you want to use one, try to determine if it will fail in the on or off position and choose accordingly.

Hi Jason:
Happy New Year to you from Jane and I.
Don't know if you heard, but I lost my compo Bandit 3 weeks ago to a regulator failure while on final after an uneventful flight.
It actually got hot enough to melt the shrinkwrap and the foam wrap.
I don't know what brand it was. It came out of one of my old D/F planes.
I have been using the MH in my HS, but since the Bandit crash, I have gone back to no regulator. I am running 6.0v packs directly to the rx now with no jittery servos, even coming off a fast charge like Mike C. has been experiencing. I range checked my planes without the regulator, and they are all beyond 300 ft.
I use the 10x with JR servos, all digital except for the brake and retract valve.
Essentially all of the giant scalers in our area have been using straight 6.0v for years without regulators.
If one decides to use one, I believe the one Tony Tehan produces (MiniHobbies) is of high quality.
For those interested, Tony's website is www.minihobby.com
Regards,
Tom

Hi Jason, I know this is probably not much use to your poll but I use Multiplex radio gear with their superb IPD 12 channel Rx's which has 3x battery input sockets using built-in regulator circuitry for up to 6 cell packs. Probably the best r/c system available with the most powerful Tx signal strength I have seen. Mpx also invented the digital servo and is the preferred radio gear used by at least one NASA sub contractor company I know of for Mars Flyer research flights at around 100,000 feet.
In fact as the advert goes....Carlsberg don't make radio gear, but if they did it would probably be Multiplex.
Sorry if I sound a bit biased, best regards, Rob.

Hi Rob,
I totaly agree with you that Multiplex is the best radio built today. unfortuatly when I hold the tranny it feels like im holding a laptop computer and I couldnt fly with it. Its about time they offered a option of a Jap style TX case.

Jason,
I have been using the following set up with my 10X with no problems;
(2) 6.0 volt 1500mah packs
(2) JACCIO regulators ( They regulate to 5.1 volts)
(2) switch harnesses - JR heavy duty type

I'm running one in my hotspot, no jitters, lots of range. I use 2x1400 mAh packs with independent switches, then Y'd into the regulator. I also have a meter in the canopy, watching the combined pack voltage before the regulator.
Thx, and happy new year everyone.

Jason,I have been using the Jaccio Perfect Switch and regulator combo for years. I will only trust this set up to my baby ( Thunderbirds BVM F-4) . I dont know why more people dont know about this combo. If the switch ever dies, it dies in the ON position only. The regulator is part of the unit and is regulated for JR @ 5.1. Futaba is regulated @ 5.7. I have used over a dozen of these units over the years on 35 and 40% planes and many jets. One of my turbin Bandits has over 200 flights on this set up with no problems. I think my other Bandit has around 100 flights with the Jaccio with no problems. The combo unit switch and integrated regulator is 49.95 retail......I put them in my jets because of the pounding and vibration they go thru in my giant scale 3w150 powered planes with no problems..... Hi Jason, I agree that the 4k Tx is a little like a notebook but I get round this with the use of a simple supporting neckstrap. If that's still not your thing then maybe the Royal Evo Tx/Rx combo is........ Japanese sized Tx. Still retains the IPD 12channels and built-in frequency scanner (won't allow rf when you switch on an 'in use' frequency). Also has Tx/Rx synthesised frequency selection and all the expected 'bells and whistles' at only GBP495.00 or around US$700.00 holds up well against the equivalent Far East gear.
Go here to see more www.modelspot.com/mpx/royal.htm
Sorry still probably not much help with your original question, just another option.
Cheers, Rob (not sponsored by Mpx).
