9303 or 10X for Jet
Hi Guys, Im new to the Jet scene, not new to flying but was wondering which TX to buy...
Will the 9303 meet my needs say in a SM f-18 ?
Or do I need the 10x
My buddy has the 10x and I can see its the dominate radio in the Jet world...
Im currently flying the 9C
Thanks for you time!

RE: 9303 or 10X for Jet
The 9303 and the 10x are both great radio's with the biggest diffrence being one extra channel. I think that either radio will do just fine for most models out there. But every now and then that one extra channel sure is nice to have.

Thanks for the comments guys, every bit counts.
As for why I am looking for another radio, my reasoning is this, 99% of all jet guys are using the 10X, I will need help with my setup and such, I just dont want to be limited so to who can help me.
Does the 9303 have whats called "Flight Modes" ?

Yes, 3 flight modes with seperate trims / dual rates and expo rates if you choose to set it up that way. Or, it can have no flight modes / common trims / and a switch for each D/R and expo setting - your choice

It will buddy box just fine but you can not transfer from one to the other and yes to the independent trims.

i use the 10X heli version for all my planks because they are out numbered 3 to 7 with heli's and it Does allow transfer of models between it and another 10X (use code 86 Data Transfer) but does Not allow trainer functions, i wouldn't think the aero version would disallow the transfer function and only the Aero version allows buddy boxing (pilot link).

RE: 9303 or 10X for Jet
I have both. One thing to note for simplicity is that the 10X has Aux 4 and Aux 5 as rotary knobs. Assignable to any channel you wish.
The convenience is that if you have your nosewheel steering setup as a seperate channel, you can easily trim it for straight steering with the knob without affecting rudder trim. The 9303 has no knobs and complicates it as you have to go into subtrim menus to adjust for centerline tracking. Otherwise if you use the sliders they can be easily bumped. Just an inconvenience really. I prefer the 10X though for that reason among others.

RE: 9303 or 10X for Jet
I just took delivery of a 9303 and so far it seems rather straightforward to set up and program, and very flexible. The 9303 is one of JR's latest, whereas the 10X has been around for 8-10 years.
What you need to ask yourself is "Do I need 10 channels or is 9 enough?", and are you willing to pay an extra $600 to get one more channel? With Matchboxes and Channel Expanders available if I need them, I think a 9 channel will be enough for me. I can put the extra $600 toward my next jet.
You should talk to someone that has owned each for a while before deciding.

RE: 9303 or 10X for Jet
I have both the 10X and 9303 and use them extensively. I prefer the 9303 because of it's simplicity in setting up the controls but go to the 10x when I need the extra channel. As mentioned you can buddy box them but you can't auto transfer settings from one to the other. I also have the synthesized RF module and can switch it back and forth between the two. My friend has the 9C and has no problems with it. I suppose it comes down to what you want and how much money you want to spend.

I have 3 10x for all of my jets. Love these radios. I was a Futaba guy before, now I am a JR convert. A range test done by our local club shows that it has the best range of over 4 miles in radius. I think you should go straight into 10x. It's a good investment.

RE: 9303 or 10X for Jet
I'm using a 9303 for a C Bobcat. Great radio. However, I was unable to use the published BVM 10x setup instructions for crow settings. I had to do it myself with some help from the JR guys. Turned out to be straightforward and pretty easily done. So, if you want to be able to quickly setup a plane using known 10x settings and you need the extra channel, then go with the 10x. If you are willing to work through the 9303 setup process (which is pretty easy) and you don't need the extra channel, then the 9303 works great for several hundred bucks less.

MU Driver.. Are you aware that these things DON'T Torque Roll or Harrier Roll very well? Well, at least not yet.

Yes I am aware, but look on the bright side, now I can fly balls out with my jet and save my 260 for the 3D and IMAC
by the way, Thank you to everyone for your honest inputs on this subject, I just bought a 10X Synth, with the R2100 Dual Conversion rec.

RE: 9303 or 10X for Jet
Either the 10X or the 9303 will work fine for you, as will the Futaba 9C.
The 9303 has a few features the 10X does not have, like the flap elevator timing system to slow the elevator down when you mix it with the flaps. You can slow the ailerons down as well with the crow function as well. The channel mate on the 9303 is a great feature and comes in handy. With the 10X you can position channels just about anywhere on any switch (not as good as Futaba but still very nice). Futaba has the switch assignability down, no doubt about that. The 9303 can give you dual rates and different expo abilities in different flight modses, whereas the 10X gives you one rate and expo per flight mode. Keep in mind the 10X is 8 years old and the 9303 is only a year and a half young.
Buddy boxing from one to the other is simple, but they will only transfer between themselves, the 9303 and 10X will not comunicate with each other.
Whatever you get or have, get it in the air and lets go fly some jets. That is what it is all about.

Duct Fans torque roll very nicely, it's the part where you have to stop torque rolling and get it back into forward flight that they aren't so great doing, takes allot of altitude to get air speed back up to the point you have any control at all. first time i did it with my old F-16 i thought it was going to lawn dart into the ground before i got enough speed to control it and pull out.
