Guys
Just returned from one of Dick Speadbury's Classic Jets events held near Oxford several times a year always on a Friday. I believe the original idea was that there were too many weekend events and this one didn't affect domestic bliss!
Dick and his crew put a huge effort into organising a great event...thanks Dick, Christine, Sam, Trevor, Paul, Andy, Nick, Geoff, John, Keith and the best flight line marshall Tom!
Some pixs today...we were greeted with...

Hi dave,
yes it was a great day and the weather was not to bad,it got a bit cloudy for the bandit in the afternoon.
the star model for me was geoff,s airworld Hawk (AGAIN) He fly,s it so well and super scale, one hell of a landing at the end of the day on is last flight.i test flew on friends arf lighting and although i dont sell them!it was a fantastic and smooth model to fly,you dont need any more flap than around 15 d down though.any more and it stops flying, even with a little flap it slows down plenty.great day and well done dick, tom ect ect .

Hi Mark,
Cheers for your kind words. Yesterday was the final time the hawk will be out this year as I am stripping it down to finish off the scale details and spray it over the winter.
When its back out again I promise I will give you a go and you will see it ain't the pilot, its the model.
Geoff.

Being on the circuit helps, the JMA web site helps...but Classic Jets is a private venture run by Dick, family and friends.
Email me at [email protected] and I will forward your email to Dick for inclusion in the next mass email anouncement...hopefully for a winter jets.

Whilst not strictly on the thresd of the Classic Jets Meeting and not wanting to take anything away from that thread there have been some interesting points been raised!
1 Are there too many jet meets in the UK?
2 Does everybody find out about these jet meets?
3 What do we do to encourage other possible venues to arrange such a jet meet?
Dick does a fantastic job arranging a private jet meet at Abingdon several times a year but how much demand is there for other jet meets?
I as a previous chairman of the StAthan model club was in the position along with Mick Morrison of possibly offering a second jet meet each year, the point was discussed at AGM and we realised as hosts that you can put yourself out in time aswell as money to provide a facility for people to enjoy there hobby and nobody could turm up!
Is it time the organisers got together to povide these meets at the right times?
Id be interested in peoples thoughts as jet meet sites arent easy to come by .

Hi Tim and Mark for that matter
From my point of view I think there is an appetitie for another meeting but only if its placed in the right time on the calendar. By this, I mean if you look at the calendar, then from the nats weekend onwards it tends to get packed out. As an example we traditionally have nats, followed by RR Hucknall(cancelled this year), followed by St Athan and for the last two years, Coningsby and of course not forgetting classic jets. All these meetings happen within a 6-8 weeks period.
On the other hand, the earlier part of the year, may/June, tends to be quiet. I have always thought the bank holiday at the end of may would make a good weekend for a jet meet as you could make it a two days which would leave a day for everyone to do other things(family etc). This was also the reason why the Shakespear jet rally was originally place in may.
I have no idea what else is on in the modelling arena in May so if I have missed any dates then please forgive me.
Geoff.

Hi Guys,
Once again thanks to Dick and all the helpers for another great day, when's the next one??????????
On the subject of Jet meets, I try and get to as many as possible as our club flying site is currently unsuitable for the larger jets (boomerangs are no problem). There seem to be just a few meets between March and the end of May (taking this year as an example), I realise that the chances of bad weather are probably greater in the early part of year. On the flip side you have to strike a balance if there are too many events people will just get fed up and stop coming.
Personally I would like to see more events in the centre of the country or towards the western side, so an extra event at Saints would suit me fine. I know there are jet meets on the eastern side of the country but I have to draw the line somewhere with the travelling, Coningsby for example is some 320+miles one way ( £90 in Petrol for the return trip) from me so to fly for the weekend I have to have the friday and monday off work.
We have some lovely airfields down this part of the world, we have asked several times about flying on them but just get fobbed off with petty excuses.
Mark, Hurry up and get an event sorted at Welshpool, that's a local one for me!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards
Nick
