As some of you may know from the Airwold Hawk thread (a VERY good model) I have researched the real Hawk in great detail, photographed it, measured it and even flown it. My only conclusion now on the Skygate Hawk (having examined IT in great detail at Jet Power) is that its incredibly good, very very scale indeed, with superb panel detail in particular.
My ealier reservation about the nose profile seems to be unfounded as it seems to be an optical illusion caused by the paint lines on the Swiss Hawks. Now that I hear the fuselage can be seperated and may well fit into my European estate car it looks like my next model (plus an AW lightning ) Better get on the waiting list !
Incidentally the new Hawk from Graupner, a Skygate product also looks very, very good indeed and flew beautifully at JP.Sizewise a median betwween the AW and SM Hawks.
Regards, David Gladwin.

Andy,
Thanks for the great pictures. Mine is due at the end of the year and this is the scheme I might end up doing. Well, that's if I can resist the grief from the wife who wants me to do the Red Arrows scheme!
@David - agreed! I was surprised at just how much better than my AW Hawk this kit was - hence the order there and then!
From memory Dorothee told me that the 10ft long fuselage moulding only weighs 2kg!!!
Rgds,
Mark

the kit is light, mine finished 19,3kg with jetcat P-160
too floaty different triming upwind than downwind
it has a bad sound of the intake i guess because no bypass
with P-160 half throttle is almost same as full throttle ( slow in the air )

Hi All,
I have just uploaded a new video of Ali's Hawk at Long Marston on its second flight... in very windy and crosswind conditions!
[link=http://ftp1.dns-systems.net/~alshobbies/jc_videos/sg_hawk.wmv]Click Here [/link] to download it. The video is about 50meg, so just let it stream.
Cheers

Just got mine earlier today and still drooling on it, and like Ali said the quality will blow your mind, From manufacturing detail to packing the attention to detail is 110%, you just couldn't ask for more.

I helped George Vittini open the box of his skygate Hawk,,,,,,,,,and can tell you that the quality of the manufactureing and the engineering involved in this kit is just like a full size aircraft,, it is mind blowing and a real work of art,, this kit should be hung on a wall in a museum , it,s sooo good.......... there is a downside .....I can't be friends with George anymore i'm too efffing jealous !!!! seriuously,, can't wait to see george put his quality building stamp on this puppy , when he finishes it it will a museum piece.....to good to fly......get on with it Georgie boy !

Mark,
sorry bud no pics, I don't want to spoil your fun, you should endure every bit of the agony as I did day by day in anticipation of your model, this way you'll be overly pleased on its arrival and unpacking...ha ha ha....
I had to pack mine up temporarlly to finish other repairs, that was hard to do.

BUT I had a massive brain fart and had forgotten that I had a little parcel still unopened in the workshop.......the build/pics CD that comes with the kit I blagged off of Dorothee a few weeks ago!!

That's the good news! The bad news is I want it even quicker now

[&:]I think it will also be delayed 2-3 weeks now as I have opted to have Skygate carry out all of their option build steps as time and me just don't get on lately [:@]

Ali,
Nice meeting you also.
I was especially waiting for your reply.
I was a bit worried of people experiencing any flutter. Has this been any problem with this gigantic airplane? I woould think with the 160 that noone would be having problems, but a 180 might be too much for the large flying surfaces.
Thanks for your excellent reply.

From this link you will find a 40MB video of Stefans test flight in 6th JWM, where he had a fin flutter. I do not have info, that what caused the flutter, but I think others closer to Skygate in the forum might know the details. I believe Stefans plane was finished quite late to the competition and sure believe the problem has been solved for the kits.
Stefan had P-160 for power and in the video you can see one pullup, where he was a bit late in the throttle, but it just shows how slow it flies, if need to be.

It is truly a great flying plane!!

Hello Stan,
I think you have a nice and big project, so I want to make a remark to your power-supply because you wrote:
We only use a emcotec dpsi BIC wich is a double switch integreting a double voltage regulator.
I´m sorry but this is not true - you are flying your big and expensive plane only with one regulator!! The only redundant thing in the most Emcotecs is the battery connector. You can find a schematic here:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_48...c%2Cbic/tm.htm
It´s just a little tip for you, so you can think if this unit is good enough for your XL - Jet!
