i have been considering one as well, but if I do get one, I think I might weigh it down a bit more ... all the videos I have seen of this plane are great, except for landing .. its too floaty I think... I understand this plane has the same weight as the AW Hawk, but at a substantially bigger size ... that adds up to a VERY light wing loading . it is an AWESOME plane !!

It won the 2006 German Scale Jet Masters 1st and 2nd place. That should indicate somthing.
I ordered 2 kits 1st to be received by end of November.
I got this pic from jetpower last september.

Probably a Rolls Royce Trent
. If I remember, the one at the jet masters used a P160.

This is one BIG jet. I hope you have a large truck to transport it.
Graupner are bringing out a smaller one, built by Skygate. Should be out next year.

Hey Scott,
Nice to meet at Superman! If you have any questions on this hawk ( Or any one else for that matter ) just shot me a mail at [email protected]
I have had about 15 flights on mine now and I love it. Yes it is a little light ( Mine weighs in at 19.5 kg ) But I am fixing that over winter, by adding some more detail and functions such as smoke. Yes some people think it is a little underpowered ( personally I think it is spot on ) But I will also deal with that by removing the P-160 and fitting the new Graupner turbine through winter.
I love flying this model. It is so easy and precise, its a bit like the first time I flew a shock flyer. i never realised how easy 3d flying could be with such a low wing loading. This model has the same effect for jet flying. An indication of how great I think the plane is...... The day I received mine I straight away ordered another turn key version, and was happy to wait the full 12 months for it to arrive. Also I order 4 more kits for stock, and 3 of these are already pre sold.
Yes there is a long delay in getting one, but these are hand made masterpieces. The attention to detail will blow your mind. Yes they may seem expensive for you guys in the U.S, but trust me you are not paying over the odds. It's worth every penny. Only problem I see with them is that they are so darn impressive that once everybody gets their hands on one it's going to become awfully hard to make a impression at a jet show soon.......
I am trying my hardest to work it so I can bring my Hawk to Floria jets.......
Hope this helps?
Regards Al

I almost forgot. For transport you dont need anything special. The fine removes with two screws. The entire stab is one piece and is removed with 5 screws and if you want to the entire nose section can un bolt with 4 screws.
I funnily enough have never found it a problem to have too floaty a plane on landing. I can always choose to land faster. I seem to have more problems with planes that will only ever land fast and dont like to slow down
Just personal preference I guess??
It flies happily with a P-160 but I guess a P-180 size turbine would suit most people.

Ali,
Nice meeting you also.
I was especially waiting for your reply.
I was a bit worried of people experiencing any flutter. Has this been any problem with this gigantic airplane? I woould think with the 160 that noone would be having problems, but a 180 might be too much for the large flying surfaces.
Thanks for your excellent reply.

Guys,
I have one due in around 8 weeks time. I ordered mine at Jetpower after seeing these models close up in the flesh! The lead time is 15weeks at the mo with an extra 2-3 weeks if you take up the stage 1,2,3 pre-build options.
Al is right - the quality is superb.
I had Dorothee send me the construction CD full of pics (typical German kit with no manual a la Airworld!) to see the amount of building required and it is still quite a lot - I'd say the same as the Airworld Hawk. I will pay for their Steps 1,2 and 3 prebuild to give me a big headstart on mine!
Salah in the UAE has posted a very nice set of construction pics so far on his site! Go to www.jetsoveruae.com and then My Hangar and Skygate Hawk.
Transport is not that big a deal despite the size of this model. The fuse splits in two so that the longest section is the rear at 183cm. The fin can be made easily removeable too.
Weight is my only concern right now. You have to go for the barest install to stay under the 20kg CAA rules we have in the UK and at the WJM type competitions. I'd love a full scale scheme but will probably go Red Arrows to keep things simpler and lighter. For you real scale buffs be aware that the model is a Mk66 as used by the Swiss airforce and not a T1 of the Red Arrows but the differences are minimal.
Anyone in the UK know what is required if, as Al is doing, the model is under 20kg when first built then modded so that it comes in over 20kg? How does the inspection during stages of building apply then as the model is already built?
Planning on a P160 for mine as I have a new one sat in a box, Lipos all round, 8711s all round and the minimum of extras!
Al, get that video tape to me so I can edit/can post some video!!
Rgds,
Mark

Hi Guys
I have for sale a set (50 pcs) of original drawings from the Hawk Mk 66 Swiss Air Force, including all to build this jet in perfect full-scale, for example also painting drawings with colour specs, and last but not least a CD with 150 pics in high res from the original SAF-Hawk.
Interest contact me via mail: [email protected]

This model is the property of a Friend of mine, Christophe. The take-off weight is 24,5 Kg with 5 liters of fuel. The engine is an AMT olympus with 23,5 Kg of thrust.
We have just receive the ACT diversity set and installed it, all batteries are Lipo and the radio switch is Emcotec DPSI BIC.
Test flight next week.

Fantastic looking model!
Can't wait for mine now!!
However, I think you should weigh it again! I will be very surprised if it is 24.5kg with 5litres of fuel. Say 1liter of fuel is 1kg that's 5kg so the airframe would weigh 19.5kg dry. Everyone who has built one has struggled to get under 20kg with a 3.1lb JetCat 160 setup - if you have any secrets on how to do this with an 8.35lb Olympus setup then please let us know.
Kind regards,
Mark

Under standard condition 1liter of fuel is only 0,800 Kg.
All batteries are Lipo (ECU and receivers)= save 0,600 Kg
We use ACT receivers in DSL mode so we don't have any power-box nor DPSI
We only use a emcotec dpsi BIC wich is a double switch integreting a double voltage regulator.
We don't have pilot into the cockpit.
We had been very carrefully during painting operations.
And that's all.
