Default UPS

HI all, we Canuks sure take a beating when it comes to shipping by UPS. Here is an invoice for a small box containing four jet servos. It had a value of $300 and insured for $400. Invioce was for brockerage fees and taxes, buy the way, it only cost the seller $10.96 to ship.

Pete,
That is insane.

Would Fedex or DHL be better?

Good ole UPS Universal Package Smashers- Just happened today-I am in the garage (of course behind piles of plane parts) and I see the UPS driver jump out of his truck and run up to my front door-He stops about six feet away and TOSSES the package the six feet on the doorstep-It was a small package about shoebox size, my monthly shipment from Todd= so I wasnt worried. So from inside the garage I said a very nice Thank You-guys head jerks around to find the disimbodied voice, sees me and runs back to the truck with a real sheepish look on his face. Gotta love brown. Scott

UPS is very bad. Everytime I ship the pipe out by UPS. They damage my pipe average 10% rate. I'm tired fight with them for damage claim. Not only that. We catch UPS cheat us over $100 average a months if not carefull look over the statements. We call them every month and on the phone with for an hour just to fight for the overcharge. Even talk to they manager department about this issue. You know what they answer? Sorry. We try not let it happen again. [:@] UPS lost a lot of business with us.
I only use UPS to ship big box. US post office get all my small package shipping business. Is cheaper and arrive anywhere in the 48 states in 2-3 days.
Damage percent less than 0.2%.
Use post office. Shipping to canada save customers a lot of money.

"What can brown do for you?"

They destroyed my NIB Super Bandit coming from BVM! And BVM packs their kits really well.
Last week I go to the UPS store to ship my P-120 back to Jetcat for service. When I tell the girl I want to insure it for $3300.00, she tells me if anything happens to the package, UPS will deny the claim since the box is used! (Original box with styrofoam insert) Can you believe that crap. She said I really needed to put the engine in a new box. I told her that box has made multiple trips from Germany and Calif and there's nothing wrong with it. Also told her it was packed better than they would pack it! She accepted it and it survived the trip to Jetcat USA.

I can't for the life of me understand why, with all the anti UPS threads on here alone, anyone would ship with them! It's been talked about to death, Pete, I can't understand why you'd ship with UPS for 4 servo's, even just for the shipping rate alone postal would have been cheaper.

Gotcha, been down that road, sometimes the seller can't understand why we don't want to use UPS I suppose us folks north of the border here should keep a copy of that picture of your UPS slip there to show whenever it's questioned hehehe.

Sadly, Fedex refuses to ever deliver on Saturday for me.

My primary reason for avoiding Fedex is that even when goods are NOT sent ""signature required", they refuse to ever leave the goods despite me having a signed release form on file. As a result, anything sent Fedex to me always ends up getting sent back to the sender when Fedex finds out that 3 successive attempts to deliver fail because (unlike UPS, who are very accomodating) Fedex will only ever deliver at times while I am at work. Pretty darn useless, really.

You can always find out where your local FedEx station is and have your packages noted by the shippers to be held at that station for your pick-up. You will be able to pick up on Saturday too. A little more inconvenient than delivery to the door but not terrible.
Why won't they deliver on Saturday to you?

Lot's of areas are "no Saturday delivery" for FEDEX. They are happy to take extra money for Sat. delivery on the shippers end then they'll hold it till Monday if you are in an area like mine where they just don't do Sat. delivery...

Dunno why they won't deliver on Sat.

I've tried the "I'll pick it up from the Fedex office" option in the past - but given the location and traffic it's a 45 minute drive each way to the pick-up office, then typically a 45 minute to 1 hr wait for them to get their act together and find the package. If I really wanted to spend 2 to 3 hrs on picking something up, I'd usually just go to the store to buy it, rather than paying for home delivery that never happens.

Just doesn't work for me, so I stick with UPS. In approximately 14 years worth of pretty solid mail-ordering (usually 5 or 6 packages per week), UPS has only ever screwed up once for me. YMMV based on where you live, I guess, but for me BROWN is still a prefered option.

Gordon

I worked at UPS for 7 years and did pretty much ever thing there at one time or another. You would be shocked if you knew what I know and seen what I have seen. This company is all about rush as fast as possible despite what might happen to the package, and what ever you do do not stop to be friendly. We used to turn entire stacks of packages over on purpose to load the belt as fast as possible. The formans would stand behind the trailor with stop watches. They actually time you on how fast you can sit in the seat put your belt on and start the engine of the truck during your training. During loading packages are falling all over and getting stomped, workers are pushed to the brink and past what is humanly possible to accomplish. Most packages are tossed inside the truck, I perfected the toss with lable side up to the shelf while pulling to more to go to other places. It is mad out there and this is the worst worker company in the World. I could write all day on the subject but you guys get the jist of it all im sure.
Later,
Brad

Strange the way they have different poilicies depending on the location. I've had Fedex deliver as late as 9:00 P.M. About two months ago, I had some Trim wheels and brakes coming via Fedex from GNM and I just missed the guy as he left the sticker on the door. It was a Friday and I really wanted to get them so I could fly on Saturday. When I checked my answering machine, the Fedex driver left a message with his cell# so I could call him and meet him to pick them up later if I wanted to or he'd be back on Monday. Fedex seems to work out better for me. I guess it just depends where you live. They did leave a video camera at my front door that needed a signature once. Sat there overnight as I was on vacation.
