Nice picture taken by Dave Wiltshire from Motors and Rotors.

Shows clearly the new legs i have now fitted.
They work really well, also the nav lights can be seen, more details on these when i get a moment.

Hi Paul

Your hawk looks good with the new legs [8D] Have you fitted a new pilot?

My hawk is ready, I hope to fly it soon.

If your noseleg is the same Eurokit one that I fitted, I've been finding that the leg travel is too little and the spring too strong. If I bounced a landing the original Eurokit setup made things worse.

The pics show how I've modified the spring and piston arrangement to allow nearly double the travel and soften the action with what is effectively a dual-rate spring. The new piston is 9mm shorter than the original piston, to provide the longer travel. The new stop screw is needed to retain the piston inside the leg. The crummy original method of retaining the piston by letting it graunch against the leg bore always appalled me anyway, and I turned the link rod stem thinner so that it wouldn't catch on the leg bore.

The new setup works much better for me with my 16-17lb EDF Hawk. The washer between the two springs is simply there to prevent them becoming entangled. The upper spring is one I had in my bits box and is noticeably softer than the Eurokit spring. Only 3 landings to date with the new setup, but all were noticeably softer and more easily controlled.

Decided to test fly the hawk today it was very late in the day and was starting to get dark and there was no wind.

The model climb after takeoff and needed half down trim for level flight.

I found the controls very soft with the recommend travel and expo [X(]. I will remove the expo and increases the control travel for the next flight.

The centre of gravity was ok as it did not require much down for inverted flight .

Due to poor light I decided to land after 4 1/2 minutes using half flap. I need some lights.

I have attached some photos the quality is not very good due to poor light. I will get some more photos next time.

Paul ( Or anyone else!)

Is the Hawk still available and from who in the UK? Seems to have been a very quiet thread lately. I am aquiring a Wren 44 Gold and am looking for a suitable airframe.

Regards

John

John,
The hawk is still being made.. I talk to Jim fairly regularly..
Last I heard if they're not in stock anywhere it'll take about 3 weeks to have one made and shipped..
If you have no luck just drop me a pm..

John

Got my Hawk last week from M&R and started work today, took advantage of a warm still morning and removed the high gloss finish from the fuselage and tail feathers with a 3M fine sanding pad followed by a clean down with cellulose thinners followed by a coat of primer. (My kit was black and it will be painted in the Swiss scheme) Ordered the decals and MDC from Ralle at Tailormade last week and they arrived today. Power will be Wren 44 Gold / Wren pipe / Jet1A oleos / Springairs. Do not have a set of instructions yet so looking for help on the method of installing the elevator servo which will allow me to complete the rear fuselage, Paul, Gordon , John, anyone?

Look back through this thread, there should be all you need to deal with the build.

Dont suppose you have a spare ABS tub/cockpit? The kit I sent John is missing it!

I know the build thread is very comprehensive, I have read it a couple of times! I am not sure the exact method of mounting the elevator servo was explained, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong! I am likely to be asking you other question too.

Best regards

If you click on the downloads tab on the top menu, go to aircraft build manuals, then fox composites.. you will find the hawk and sabre there..
