RE: FOX COMPOSITES SABRE F86 for Wren 44 build thread
Just got back from the Nationals.
I have now flown the Sabre 6 times, it is without a doubt a worthy stable mate to the fantastic Fox Composites Hawk. Very fast, but unbelievably slow landings with crow braking. There was an enormous amount of interest in the model.
I have knocked up a cockpit (see pics). And, with the help of another thread, chosen the colour scheme for the model.
I will be weighing it later so more to follow.
Also some video, but that will be a while.

Well
The basic painting is complete, just needs some decals.
I took it to the field today but due to a waterlogged and long grassed runway, I was unable to get her airborne. (Days like this I am glad I have a heli as well!)
So, no video yet but as soon as I have it I will 'up' it.
Below some pics of the scale colour scheme.

Jamie
Sorry, I will not be going the AGM, (1st one I have missed) []
Unfortunately I have other commitments that weekend.
I will however be flying it (and the Hawk) at Bickley, Wings and Wheels, the Nationals, Raydon and The Hop Farm.
These are the ones I know of but I am sure there will be more. [8D]

RE: FOX COMPOSITES SABRE F86 for Wren 44 build thread
Hi I have a Byron ducted fan with a OS77 engine. I need some help trying to figure out what size plane this engine would work with. I am wanting to put this engine in a sabre. I am having trouble finding answers to anything. If you could please help me out a little. Where did you buy your plane and what was the cost? What size is this plane and would my engine work with this plane? I have never fly a ducted plane before I am just trying something new. I do however have a few planes if you would like to see them you can go to www.myspace.com/dicksplanes email is [email protected] my number is 229-423-8672

Hello
The Byron Fan unit was not a great fan; it is also a larger diameter than other fans.
In addition it is a pusher, so the tuned pipe runs forward in the model.
The OS 77 is a good engine, but if it were me I would fit it to a Dynamax fan unit.
This model could be run as a fan model, I (and other experienced fan/turbine flyers) could do the conversion, but, you being new to fans I would suggest buying a model designed specifically for the Dynamax / OS77 setup.
I am not up to date on fan models available at the moment. Fans England are very rare now.
Maybe someone your side of the pond can help?

RE: FOX COMPOSITES SABRE F86 for Wren 44 build thread
Finally got some video.!
Most of the flight was not on full throttle but you can see that when it is ‘gunned’ it goes like hell!
Really nice plane, got it almost sorted now, a real pleasure to fly.

PS sorry about the sound, it is not like that on the original!

Cracking video paul! i have been watching this thread with interest as i now have a MW44 gold without a home . . . but not for long, i spoke to Paul Bardoe at the Shawbury jet meet about getting a kit. I would like the yellow one as i would quite like to finish it as the yellow Boeing chase plane Sabre N8686F, but i am also quite keen on the RAAF Sabre schemes for which the silver one would be better . . . . maybe i will have to buy two, if i cannot decide!
I was a member of Westonzoyland club when the owner of turbofan . . . David James was a member, and i remember watching this design and the mig-15 fly on many occasions and it was not long before i had my own Turbofan sabre with Turbax 1/OS46VRDF in blue impulse colours . . . . fantastic model!! it was a shame that Jim fox models ceased to be, as he had absorbed Turbofan and carried on producing until the end . . . .great to see it back, looking and flying so well!!

Well I got my F86 Yesterday and am planning to get most of the gear at Rougham. Just to show how pleased my wife was that I have got another jet here is a pic of her after opening the box ! ..... She thinks they are all spitfires. Will be starting on the build soon and will post a few of my experiences

Women eh! I am sure they must have some uses?
Yes, my wife is a bit more informed now after so many years of aircraft 'eduction', however I do remember once her telling me about a TV program she had been watching.
'It was very moving' she said 'watching those Spitfires struggling home on one engine'
It took me hours to stop laughing!
Its a nice plane keep us informed on your progress.

RE: FOX COMPOSITES SABRE F86 for Wren 44 build thread
Well after the Rougham show today I got most of the gear and decided to make a start on one wing. One of the first things you will notice is that Jim seemed to forget to make a hole inside the structure of the wings to get the servo cables through. As I am extending the servo cables by soldering in a section of wire. I drilled a small hole in the black wing former and passed the servo wire through. I am using futaba colour wire for the flaps and JR colour for Ailerons. I also decided to glue two small pieces of scrap ply to the inside of the servo bay so that the live hinged servo covers can be secured by small screws rather than the tape method suggested in the instructions.
This will not be a quick build as it is the flying season. I do intend to try a do alittle bit each night however

RE: FOX COMPOSITES SABRE F86 for Wren 44 build thread
About 3.5 hours to do one Aileron...... I think I have been hanging out with a certain electric modeller too long.
I am using HS225MG servos in the wing. These are quite powerful and with 4 HS225's I can save a total of 44 grams. They are also small enough that they will fit in. I did not use the supplied mounts as they are for thing wing servo's which were double the price of the 225mg's so I made up a small mount out of a nice quality balsa I had.
I drilled the hole for the 3 mm bar which is in effect the aileron horn with a 2.5 mm drill and it screwed in very well. I then remove it and applied a little epoxy to glue it in position.
Here a few shots
