Hmmm....in the real universe there are many languages spoken. How about in the radio control universe?

I'd agree, that if I tried to go to the japanese RC board, I'd better learn to read and type japanese.

Like it or not, english is still what's mostly used here.(RCU, and these here states!) I think it is great to try to help however possible, but I'd have a hard time on a board where english was not the main language.

Y yo tambien puedo hablar muchas idiomas!

Donka!

Raf

PS: I really hope that does not make me sound like a biggot! I dislike everyone equally! (That was a joke....[&:] )

Hahaha... I wonder how many times I replied this question.. I even considered a Wikipedia entry in this subject.

95 to 130 mm in front the wing tube, fuel tank empty.

They way some guys spell on this forum how could the moderator tell if it's English or not...

I'd say if your going to post in another language be nice to us less educated knuckle-draggers and include a translation so we can follow the thread.
Hear, Hear...........................
Hey Terry,

Is that some kind of Indiana dialect?

Johnny,

Do you think that they will make me change my screen name here?

I agree with RCU if that is their policy. This site is primarily an English forum. If the post is not in English they can't monitor what is being said. There is nothing wrong with that. You can't expect them to have a whole team of multilingual forum moderators. It's just not practical.

Although, if they wanted to start one dedicated to a specific language that is moderated by someone who knows that language that would make since.

I hate it when people complain about having to speak English in America. We don't expect others to speak English when we visit their country and they shouldn't expect us to speak theirs here. If your going to live in this country LEARN ENGLISH!!

I would imagine that the reason for this policy, is that the moderators can't possibly do their job and moderate anything that they can't understand.

How do you enforce the rules about no comercial advertising, no cussing, no flaming etc if you can't tell whether any of that stuff is taking place?

If enough guys want to post in some specific language other than English, perhaps they could at least nominate one of their own to step up and perform (unpaid) moderator duties. That might convince Mark to allow it.

We need ONE COMMON LANGAUGE here or the threads will be chaotic. Like it or not, the language most common to this community, and thus the standard for RCU, is English.

I don't like SOME of the rules here, but that's just too stinkin' bad for me. I'm not allowed to pick which rules I will follow and which ones I won't based upon what I like. I've had two of my own posts modded and didn't like it at all. But ya know what? Tuff doo-doo. I was out of bounds and had it coming.

I know that I must try to abide by ALL of the rules here for the sake of the RCU community as a WHOLE, including the sponsors who provide this site to me FREE OF CHARGE.

Absolutely. There's a word for using a foreign language in the company of others so others cannot understand what is being said - rudeness. It's not the least bit clever & many people find it offensive. If you want to talk to a countryman in your own language, that's fine, send them a PM. If you don't like the RCU policy of not posting in English that's fine too. Post somewhere else. - John.

From an ex moderator stand point, the posts in a language other than english were always a pain, I used babblefish on a few of them and discovered they were people telling others that they had a certain kit or part for sale. Only thing that clued me in was I still found a dollar sign in the post. That's nothing more than a work around of the rules. I don't speak any language other than english, when moderating the site it's not fair to have to try to figure out what a post in another language says. When I did use the online translator's, the english translation still didn't make sense in most cases.
I have no issues with other cultures, other languages, or anything like that, but I will say it is a major peeve of mine when I go into a business in Canada and the people working there have very little grasp of the english language, if I go to any other country I'm the one that needs to figure out how to communicate there.
Being that RCU is an english website, the posts should be in english, there are a couple of sites I've seen linked to here on RCU that were german and I couldn't find any english anywhere there, doesn't mean I hate the site, just means it's a site I can't really participate on and I'm ok with that.
It just makes it much more difficult to do anything on the site when you don't know what's being written

In order to minimize misunderstandings and maximize communication, I think it would be in the best interests of anyone using the Internet, and everyone else in the world, too, if we all adopted a universal language. Not to replace the existing languages of the world, but as a secondary language taught in schools to all students, so a person may communicate with any other person in the world.

Oh wait, English already if fulfilling that role, isn't it? Thanks to the Internet, the English language is already taught as a secondary language in nearly every major country of the world.

What possible justification could be found to step backwards into the non-communicative, prejudiced and bigoted conditions of 50 years ago, where people looked down on any person who didn't speak "their" language, whatever it was? The rest of the world is speaking English and practice on American travelers whenever they can, so why are so many Americans ashamed of that fact?

This was news to me... just received a email notifying that a post of mine was deleted because I used a foreign language:

While I usually write in English, is some occasions I use other language to help or even talk in other cultures terms to comunicate in more precise terms ... for example, a guy from Venezuela posted a pic of his Byron F-16 without English knowledge (kudos to him) using a terrible electronic translator and I used Spanish to warm him from a potential problem he had in his linkages. In other recent occation I used Portuguese to congratulate some jet guys in Portugal about their next event.

I was really surprised with this attitude from a RCU moderator, and it triggered a red light on my panel... if a comercial or political attitude is taking out my freedom away to talk and help others to enjoy our hobby, a corrective measure must be taken, from any of the parts envolved.

So now I am kind of waiting a official position on RCU on this subject, to see if this a new 2008 house rule or if it was just a moderator issue...

Sorry for my rant to all my friends here, Enrique.
Enrique

Is the post in question in the Jets forum or another forum? Could you point me towards the thread and I will investigate the reason it was deleted and inform you of my findings ASAP.

To the best of my knowledge, it I have not seen any RCU rules that prohibits posting in another language. I might be wrong but I will check into it and get back with you.

Meanwhile, I’m closing this thread as it is heading south already.

Enrique, please send me the necessary information through PM.

Best Regards

I just checked with other RCU moderators, community moderators and this is what I learned:

Here's the RCU Community Rule that covers that

TOPICS OF DISCUSSION:
Although discussion forums encourage a wide range of opinions, please keep your posts focused on the topic of the thread and related to the forum you are submitting your message.

RCUniverse's chosen language is English. All other languages are subject to removal.

Each forum has a different topic, so what is appropriate in one forum or thread may not be appropriate in another.

RCUniverse.com is focused on R/C. Accordingly, topics must remain R/C related.

We do not permit political, social, religious, or other off-topic discussions. There are many places online to express your opinions on issues outside of RC so "RC" Universe is designed to be a place to talk just about RC.
