It's hilarious that everybody's scared to say it in public. Now, the question is, will this 'globalization' mean lower prices?

Now it's a big secret.

If you want to know.....call BV and ask him.

I agree Goin' West. This is what I also thought of when I first read Sean's question. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the brunt of ARFs made over seas? I know Jet Hangar's Hawk is and the new F15 who's name escapes me at the moment (RTP?) I once naiively thought "Made in China" meant poor quality. Therefore I always sought items made in Italy, UK, Belgium, Switzerland etc... Maybe it's that same stigma that BVM is concerned about. It would be ridiculous to think like that in this day though, as the quality coming from Asian countries is remarkable. Nowadays, I'm frustrated that everyone tells me to buy American and in many instances I'll pay through the nose for a U.S. made product. These "new to the scene", moderately priced jet ARFs are extremely appealing to me. I think they're going to open a mini flood-gate for many who considered turbine modeling out of their price range. It's a no-brainer that many jet folks want inexpensive, great looking, turbine powered, 3/4 built and bundled in a neat package arriving at their door. It's called "near" instant gratification. I'm not surprised at all that BVM is following the bandwagon.

You might want to read the previous posts in the thread. Several others have given the same novel suggestion. You're ASSuming that I didn't call, but if you don't want to answer the question, why pipe up?

Grbaker,

Yes, you're right. I thought the 'raised eyes' comment was on the silly side, also. I guess the big secret is out, though. You know, it's funny--I had eight different PMs and emails, giving me the answer to my question. Half of them asked me not to say where I heard it. This begs the question: WHAT IS THE BIG STATE SECRET???

** Disclaimer ** the following is my own personal opinion.

If anything I think the secrecy is just that BV likes to keep things close to his chest so to speak. This is his business and livelihood we're talking about here. He's not doing this out of his garage or as a 2nd income.

And honestly if he doesn't want to tell people where they're made why should he have to? I guess you could also ask the question why people are so intent on finding out things people wish to keep private?

This isn't directed at you Shawn, just people in general on RCU who seem to feel they have a 'right to know'.. one of my bigger pet peeves in today's world.

Hi ,I did order one and when I called Bvm to find out when it would come in, I asked him where it was made? he told me Its none of my business I love Bvm products their complete testing and quality, but heres my point on this one that makes me mad, I was told the king cat was made by the same guy that made the FC Mig 29 ,he sent kits that was far from complete and tested, this guy took allot of money and failed to complete his part, now if this guy is making the King cat I dont want my money getting in his hands, also who said made in the usa with usa wages?

Really? You ordered one and they wouldnt even tell you? IMO if you dropped the $4500+ with them to buy it, it is your business..

Bvm puts out a great product and stands behind what they sell, why is it so important to know where it is made, if you have a problem with what you purchased you would go back to them not where they had it made. I believe that the people that try to put a negative spin on successful companies and business are probably just jealous of someone else's success

just my thoughts

Default From the US Customs website

What are the requirements for country of origin marking on goods that are imported into the U.S.?
Prior to importing your goods into the United States, you should ensure the overseas supplier has marked the goods with the country of origin. For example, goods originating in China, should be marked "Made in China". The marking must be legible and permanent enough for the ultimate purchaser to be made aware of the goods origin. The ultimate purchaser is the person who will last purchase or receive the article in the condition in which it was imported. That could be a consumer (one who buys), processor (one who further processes materials or recipient (receiver of a gift).
So BVM may not have to tell where it's made. But, since I doubt that the KingCats are coming with "Made in Thailand" labels, then it should be no secret where they are made. The consumer has the right to know.

So there it is.....

Now I get it. There's obviously some kind of 'negative' value to being made in Asia. Especially, if one of your battle cries has long been how lousy it is to manufacture jet kits over there. Trust me, I've 'taken one for the team' on many, many occasions, due to selling Asian-made products. Everything from cheap-shots from Reps to guilt-trips about perpetuating slavery, all right here on RCU!

Now, this isn't directed at you personally, Doug, but what kind of nonsense is it to think that the person who would be buying a product shouldn't ask (or have the right to know) where it's made--especially, if the 'Made in the U.S.A.' sticker is part of the explanation for the pricetag?? What about the individual who wants to 'buy American' and assumes from past commentary that all of 'Mfgr. A' products are made in the U.S.? Shouldn't he have the right to know?

It doesn't bother me a bit, one way or the other. One thing I will say, though, is that the 'Made in the USA' sticker has been one of the factors that justified the pricetag TO ME when I buy BVM products (and I do). I'm just hoping that this offshore move means less grief for me about selling Asian-made kits.

Anyway, I'm still in awe of the silence. Almost as much as I'm in awe of the "please don't use my name" caveats in half of the NINE messages I've gotten about the country of manufacture. I can envision the hushed tones, trembling fingers and sweaty foreheads.... What's he gonna do, show up at your house with a couple of Reps with axe-handles? See you at a meet and invite you to sit in the back of a black sedan with a plastic tarp covering the seats?? I have yet to see this sinister side to BV that causes such abject fear in people (well, maybe I will now......... :stupid: )

How about dropping all the bull and get this thread back to a valuable KingCat thread. Who cares where it is made. All that's important is that the product is supplied by a company that stands 100% behind their products.

Did BV put on a good show with the KC at Ohio?

Default GIVE IT UP

O.K. so all of you will stop the bickering and beating around the bush what you are all dieying to say. I will come out and say it. Why a BVM Price for a NON BVM JET. I am in no way knocking it, but at 5K (depending on color) how can you justify the price. Yes it's Large and YES, it's pre-faab or built for you (some assembly required).

Now I know it cost to ship from Thailand (what maybe 200 per kit), Yep it cost money to design and make the prototype and all that BUT it is still a LARGER BOBCAT. but when the production price SHOULD (notice should, I don't know or care to know actual figures) be less than HALF of the kit price. Now if read the BVM site wrong, then please show me the light, but just to think that You still have to ADD 1. Turbine, 2. Radio 3. Retracts, Struts, Wheels, Brakes, well you get the picture. For some of you out ther with bigger pockets than I it's no big deal and I am happy for you, but that is NOT the point here.

Turbulence,
Actually.....I believe the price on the site is go-fly price and includes EVERYTHING but the the engine and radio.... gear, wheels/brakes, brake valve, tanks etc... are all included. Still steep on price for a Composite-Arf ARF..... I thought the same about the Bobcat but I still shelled out the $$$ for one.... Sure, BV may not sell as many as he would if the $$ was better but why bother? Produce less kits, make more profit each and he's in the same boat either way..... Easier to keep the quality up with lower production

Well, BV and the other U.S. manufacturers sure as hell did before they started making them overseas....

Hey, now....

My Sopranos analogy was supposed to be satire........

Now, nobody hurt themselves following this logic--but if it's no matter, or 'who cares' or whatever it is NOW, then WHY THE BIG HUSH HUSH???? LOL!

But seriously, though, I still think the only thing lame about this subject is the silly secrecy surrounding it.....

Some aspects of this area of the hobby are getting quite ridiculous.

Hey Goin' West my original reply was quoting grbaker.....why do you feel the need to get in the fray and defend his post?

You seem to be the one doing all the ASSuming, I was not even talking to you, nor did I quote something you posted.

If you can't buy one without knowing where it is manufactured, it's simple, DON'T BUY ONE.

Another thing, if you're going to call me names just do it, don't ASSume that I was ASSuming anything. You can't read my mind and have no idea what I think other than what I say in my post's.

One last thing, last I checked this is still a free country and this IS a DISCUSSION forum, that's why I "piped in" on this thread.

Did BV put on a good show with the KC at Ohio?

John, Yes he did. He also let me fly it and I can say it is an excellent airplane. It flies similar to the Bobcat but has a different, smoother feel to it. It snaps equally well inside and outside, unlike the Bobcat (It is hard to get a clean inside snap with the BC) It's real forte is slow flight you can drop the flaps to half and cruise around at about the same speed as a forty size trainer, or drop them to full flap and almost stop the airplane. Inverted flight only took a light touch of down elevator and slow rolls were easy. It is capable of a nice fast barn burner as well. The prototype has a P-120 on it and the power seemed just about right for it. I am looking forward to getting mine and getting it geared up for Superman. BV also had the Yellow and Blue KC in the box it looked great as well. The go fly price listed on BVM's website is for the kit, retracts, tanks, air systems and the usual complete airframe minus glue, radio gear and engine. Complain if you want about the price but there are quite a few of them already sold.
