Hmm, sounds good (have some other small bird to finish first...)

What turbine is going in yours? I love the scheme!

I'm installing a P160, but a 120N I think is enough for realistic flying.

Nightswan:

Thuderceptor:

All readers:

The Cougar has flown with 22 to 36lb thrust turbines. Currently, my personal Cougar is using our Super Eagle which is 30lb thrust. It is my personal opinion, that much over 30lb thrust is serious overkill.
Last week in Orlando, our (Jet Central) Team pilot Raul Lozano from Spain flew a very impressive flight demonstrating slow flight, fast passes, slow flight with transition to vertical until my eyes lost it, slow, fast, point, and barrel rolls as well as knife edge flight. The viewers enjoyed the show. Afterwards, he discussed with me that our Rabbit (19lbs) of thrust with at least 1/2 less fuel load would fly the jet just fine; however, he likes it just the way it is. . .

So there you have it. No need to over power it. If using larger turbines, we advise you explore the flight envelope with caution and care. . .

Look for future flight reports in this forum soon.

Happy Holidays to all. . .
Eric

Hello,
I'm starting to run cables for servos and I'm wondering where to place the receiver, could be troublesome to place a 2.4Ghz receiver on top of the engine?
Could engine shield the receiver from transmitter signal in some positions?

Thanks

Alberto:

Pictures show how I did the receiver board and the air board on Eric's (DerJet USA) #386 Cougar. Please note, these pictures were taken before the receiver board was mounted to the fuselage lip.

DerJet supplies the receiver board (aft) and you must make up the air board. Both are shown in the manual. I have asked Eric to send you another copy of the manual tonight.

When mounting the receiver board, make sure you place it directly under the fuselage lip. After 8 flights, there are no symptoms or issues with heat from the turbine. I used aluminum HVAC tape to cover most of the wires just to be sure.

Please feel free to email me at [email protected] or post on this forum with any other questions you may have.

Happy Holidays. . .

Thank you for the pictures, Bill.

Do you use also the turbine bypass duct?

My receiver sits on top of the engine as well and we have not had any interference problems.

Hello,
I'm installing the speed brakes, did anyone try to drill holes on them? Will they get too weak?

Here is a photo of Airworld's Cougar airbrakes:

Thunderceptor, We drilled most of the holes out. I will get Eric to take a photo so we can post it. Strength was not a problem.
As you can see from the photos they came out great.
I must confess that all this drilling was done By Eric.

Our first Cougar arrived a couple of weeks back, quality is very good, nice glue joints-glass board doublers on the retract mounts, infact plenty of nice touches.
Motors & Rotors have now accepted the agency for the UK and we expect the first order shortly.

Remove the gear unit
operate it manually to see where it sticks
NOTE sometimes this does not show up under manual movement
and you might have to use air pressure...
on mine, the problem was the small lip
machined intoboyh siderails that provides the"locking"
action for the sliding brass pin. Icarefully filed the sharp
points of the lips away so they got less shap and more rounded
this totally cured my problem

I have filed down these some, since this is also mentioned in the manual. It looks the binding is somewhwere else...........

is the bind going UP or DOWN? sometimes if the width of the fuse LG mount is too narrow the pin that actuates the trunnion can strike the sides of the cutout then you must file or dremel out some mount material to make the mount a small bit wider.also if it doesn't bind when operated manually, another possibility is uneven mounting rails causing the mechanism to twist. In this case you can shim one corner of the unit with a thin washer or CF piece to restore the flatness of the mount, this should eliminate any twisting of the LG unit.. that might also work

Exactly the same problem as mine. mount is flat, corners are ronded. works a few times then next flight gets stuck up, sick and tired of tearing up the fuse bottom so going to electric. Der jet dont want to know about the problem

Or maybe they take a hint.........................?? Glad I`m not alone on this problem.

BTW Where do you find electrics in this range?.........I know, but don`t want it to cost the same as the entire model...??

There must be a reason. we have a few Cougar's flying in the UK and none have the problem.
Does it do it on the ground too? What releases the leg?

I have to pry open the inner gear door and manually grab the wheel/strut, then it releases. Problem is to find where it sticks, it can happen both gear out of the mount and mounted, and of course it doesn`t happen all the time..... I can cycle the gear 4-5 times, everything works fine, so I`m flying, but on the 6th..............

OK, please try it and get it stuck. then open the main doors and try just pressing the leg/wheel up further and see if it "clicks" and releases. Or is it that the lock is released and you have to over power the binding to pull it down?

Dave
