Hi guys -
I will soon be building another SM F-16 1:6, and will be making full video MFD's for it. I found these 1,5" OLED MP4-playing
watches on a Chinese website, they are very clear and will play video in 65000 colors. They cost about $50 a piece, I got
3 of them for a bit of experimentation. The battery is supposed to last for 5 hours of video... we'll see about that! I'll keep
you posted when I receive them, should be approx 2 weeks.

Hey Marc:

Here is my project for my Skymaster F-16 1/8 Scale:

I got my new Scale Pilotin RAF Museum in Engand. It is 10" height (I think is like 1/7 scale because the pilot that came with the kit is 8" height).I needed to make some cockpit adjustments like cutting the cockpit floor to lower it a little and cutting and enlarging the cockpit section were the pilot legs rest to accomodate it.

My new MFD

I got them from Steve

http://www.rcuvideos.com/video/Skymaster-F-16-18-MFD-4# (Sorry for the Basin sound. Wasn't me and is not a MFD simulation campaign sound)

I used the Falcon 4.0 Allied Forces software and Camtasio Studio Software and got help from my nephew (he is an electronic engineer and is getting a master in communications in France).

I needed to study Falcon 4.0 to play a real mission (missile threat mission) and I needed to study the Camtasia Studio Software to record in the background, the full screen game and then use a software tool called smart focus to focus only both MFD (one at a time). Then I got a Windows Mediavideo files, one for each MFD that I downloaded to the uSD to play in theuOLED displays using propietary uOLED software.

I have spent more than 2 months in this project once I receved the uOLED that Ihad in mind since last year. (See the Steve mail date).

I am also installing 1 mm fiber optics to each bottom side panel in the cockpit to lit the buttons using small LEDS.

I am attaching some pictures

(In the fiber optics picture, the new pilot wasn't installed yet)

Hi Marc,

nice job

are the strobes sucking the juice out of the battery pack, as the other lights seem to dim when the strobes flash?

JF, yes there is a slight dimming, due to the fact that the system is usually only built to drive 8 outputs at 4.8v, we required 16 lights so the system is run by a 2s lipo and all lights are series together, two lights on each channel to give the desired result, cable runs are also quite long as its a big plane so there are some losses in the wiring. The result is less noticeable when the landing lights are not on, but the video shows all 16 running.

Another thought:
If I make a template/mask or a complete model of the avionics panles in the new F-16 and place one large OLED-screen
behind it, I will be able to make ALL the screens and gauges work - and looking correct in relation to each other,
running real video..

and an easy installation as well, one 3" screen and one front plate!
Here is a test for the mask, and a lnk to a small video clip:

Tor, the idea is good and would be easier the only issue i can see immediately is the lower section of instruments will need cut-outs either side to allow the pilots legs through, one big screen would get in the way []
There is certainly something here for working on as the solutions to these problems especially for you technical wizards is within easy grasp. Keep the good ideas coming.

I'm afraid my pilot has already had his legs amputated anyway!!
But I could include a picture of them continuing from the pilot's leg
into the screen...

MARC!

FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC!

Gorgeous job! Heck, the model without the Mfd is gorgeous, the Mfds just put it over the top! doesnt look like a model, Looks like it needs a set of 3.8 scale luggage sitting on the tarmac.
Congrats man.

Thanks Bela, appreciate the enthusiastic comments, its good to get it.
Its turned out good, a great kit and good looking too, the only PITA area was the canopy frame, fixing and hinging was very tricky.
I'll post loads of pictures on my website shortly.

Hey guys:

Thanks for your comments on my project too...

Maybe did I something wrong posting my project just after Marc's?

Or wasn't it soo impressive?

Or it was too long post?

My friends can't believe I did it....

So did some guys in another thread I posted about Leading edge flaps linked to my post in this thread

And all I did was thanks to Marc , Tor and Bela in this thread

Please chime in......

Guillermo,
Some times I too post something that I think is really cool and don't get any response at all!! - but you can be certain
that we follow and admire what you are doing, it looks very impressive, and everytime I see something like this I get
creative and start thinking about other ways to do it or other places to use it, so please don't stop posting - hang in there!!

Tor

PS: On our own club forum I have a whole new build thread about my new Savex L-39, and I have maybe 3 answers - but I don't
give up!!

Cool stuff. Especially effective if you had an inflight camera in the cockpit.
Keep it going.

I bet these will start being used in the WJM. If you don't have it you won't be able to win.

Guillermo, it would be hard for a person that loves scale jets to not appreciate what you have accomplished, regardless of the posts.

Tor, Marc, and yourself are all creative individuals that always go beyond what the kit had been intended for, but most are guys that just like to fly ovals on weekends, and thats fine too.
Most also are guys that wouldn't even own a jet, if slow boats from China didnt exist, being unable to build thier own but loving jets just the same.
I personally like the challenge of engineering and making something work as scale as possible, and of course from scratch. If you want to do the f-22 in a SCALE manner, very few other projects will approach it in subtlety and compexity of shape, the thermodynamics and mechanics of the thrust vectored nozzles and all the weapons bays, yet, it also isnt a high post project.

If you really need more acknowledgment, buy a boomerang and paint it in all the colors of a Hawaiian pizza.

Better yet, my friend, just let your plane speak for itself. its the only one with fully animated mfds........... FOR NOW!

Again, CONGRATULATIONS!

Bela
