Default BVM F-86 old version convert to what?

I have an older version BVM F-86 pre-AFS. It was built as a ducted fan using BVM's unit. It is well built. I am debating on what to convert to electric or turbine?
BVM's conversion kit is pricey and am wondering if all of the added parts and work are necessary.
I have a WREN 54 12 lb. thrust to use.

So,

Opinions on going electric

And,

Show me or opinions on converting to turbine with or without the BVM conversion kit.

FWIW to convert it to electric using BVM equipment (EDF unit/batteries/controllers etc) its going to be close to 2K. This would be the way I would go as its plug and play.

I'm not trying to be anti EDF here, but I cannot for the life of me understand going to an EDF system when by the time you buy the fan, ESC, motor, a couple sets of packs etc you're almost at the same price as a small turbine with more thrust.
In your case, if you already have a Wren 54, I wouldn't even consider EDF, you have the engine, use it, it will have sparkling performance, sound like the real thing, and cost you less than having to buy another power package.

If EDF cost half of what it does, it might have more interest to me, but as it sits, I just can't even start to get excited about it. We waited for years to have miniature turbines, going back to a fan system of some sort just seems like a step backwards to me.

Just my opinion of course

jlm aviation,

The best part of electric is that it is reliable and clean, no fuel to carry, no OIL to handle.
The performance is fantastic, flying can be done at the local field that may have a turbine ban.

If you go with the BVM evf unit you will need the following:

EVF 5212 or 4010 unit
Mylar tailpipe
Battery packs
2 cell pro 10s chargers

Happy to answer any questions you may have.
Bob

The turbine conversion kit from BVM is $900. Has anyone converted one for turbine use without using the conversion kit?
Do I need a bypass? Please show pictures.

Actually there are many good reasons nowadays to add an EDF bird or three to the hanger, in fact the best reason for me personally "would" be the sound.... some of you guys have a little catching up to do I reckon.

"turnnburn" has had one flying for several years. I don't remember if he used the BVM conversion or not. He will probably reply to this email

That sounded great! Bob V himself told me that he's liking EDF's more and more. No Turbine Lag, fly any where you can take off and land, no waiver needed etc. He's quick to tell you that its not cheaper than Turbines just different

Here's another great Stu Max video...in a spark : http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&h...&v=FlPCmQuP3OI
or this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&h...&v=YVQSF72eid4

This is with only 3700 mah packs

just sounds amazing!

The complete plane can be built for under $3000... try that with a turbine plane

A Turbine is at least $2500.. airframe, servos, retracts, cockpit, wheels... it's more like $5000 grand

it's not for everyone.. but I just love it

I've seen Tams BVM Red Bull F-86 fly with his Fan ... and it's just an awsome combo
P-60 type performance ... with his ducting it's a drop in fit .. very nice
