put it next to a BVM f4,that has been in scale contests for 15 yrs. you can see the difference, I guess the best way to find out is to put it in true scale contest.
The plane is pretty true to scale. Even though it was never designed for scale competetion rather ease of flying, It did very well in the last WJM out of the box. BVM F-4 is a great plane but its far from scale as well. Please refrest my memory about how the BVM F-4 has done in any WJM which I believe is one of THE scale contest in the World?

If you want to do comparisons, lets talk about cost, ease of building / assembly, units sold in the last year.. I'm up for that;)

Adil,
What size is this new SM F-4 ?? There is no info on their website about it??

Thanks,
V..
Hi Vinny,

Its about 80" in length. I'll take the measurements later and post them. SM has not posted this one on their website and I assume it is due to being a prototype?

Thanks - Adil

Fair enough Mr. Malchione (If you are not him, I apologize!). This thread was all about SM F-4 and I don't recall, BVM being brought into it except you. I have never said anything negative about the BVM F-4 as I have always admired it. Please read your prior posts and see how YOU brought the camparison to play. I don't think you would be content either if I was to go and start posting negative stuff on your beloved manufacturer's thread.

That being said, I guess your answer is NO to any BVM F-4 WJM high scores? Where real documentation is required not just some 3-D views that were "published in a RC magazxine".

Best Regards,

Adil

Gentlemen

For your information the highest score in the WJM (Thailand 2001) for a BVM F4 was 12th place in individual class (David Gladwin) At this year's WJM in Northern Ireland the two Skymaster F4's scored 19th and 28th place in open class.

Best regards

John

Hi Vinny,

I'd say that a 20-27 lb thrust will be the range for this airframe. Me, I'll probably go for the Super Eagle to have the extra for some vertical performance etc.

Thanks - Adil

Hi Buck,

Being that this was a VERY early prototype, I used retracts that I had laying around as well as fuel tanks. SM will now work on doing the gear and tanks etc.

As fas as structure and strength, it is basically exactly the same as the bigger version and will be good. Wings already had the CF etc. which I didn't have on my bigger one if you remember.

I did notice that the wings are more on the thin / scale side vs the elder brother and that should equate to more speed etc. I did not notice any stability issue as it was pretty stable in the wind even on takeoff and landing.

I'm taking a GUESS here but this prototype kept simple and light was around 20lbs RTF so SM can definitely have the production one around 25lb or so?

Thanks - Adil

OK, I got a very low resolution video from a friend and posted it under RCU videos: "SM F4 small prototype 1st flight.wmv"

I apologize for the poor resolution as well as length of the video but that is all I have currently [:o].

ok guys i just spoke to my friends dad who i know for a fact worked on the full size F4 and he swears blind they had spoilers!!!! he then went on to say the phantom had around 3 degrees up aileron and around 40 degree up spoiler , while the opposite aileron droped about 20 degrees ,also what made me query this is because i remember once watching a florida jet video where i think a guy called lewis hamilton ?? flew the century F4 and that showed a working spoiler!! im looking to getting a F4 myself in the comming months but im looking for scale it seems to me theres BVM, SKYMASTER, AND CENTURY, and untill i find out for sure on the spoilers which im now quite confident i have i would say the skymaster is a lovley piece of work but as for scale it would have to be questioned?[>:]

Wayne1965,

Spoilers or no spoilers, none of the 3 model brands that you've mentioned have wing spoilers or slats. I've never owned a CJM F-4 but I've owned a BVM Phantom and am awaiting delivery of a Skymaster F-4. I'm afraid that if you're looking for a 100% pure scale Phantom, you'll have to do your own molds or make kit modifications.

From a flying standpoint, I will say that I very much enjoyed my BVM Phantom, great quality. I'm looking forward to the Skymaster F-4, it's bigger therefore my aging eyes will like it better. :D

I certainly wish you the best in your search for the Phantom that meets your needs.
