RE: Glascat
Steve,
The photo you see is a toy model, its just like a door stop. A carved piece of wood. The odds on the aliens, and the Starjet flying are most likely very close. I just wanta know if Todd is the New Dealer for Tracy?????????? RN |
RE: Glascat
Yes we have flown the prototype with a pusher prop OS BGX engine. It flew very well, but the builder made it about 5 pounds heavier than it needed to be. Still, that at least proves it flew well even at the heavier weight. I am still going to send a video to Mark, but I have been so swamped with things lately that I haven't packaged it yet. I am also trying to get together with a local company to take it from VHS to DVD, but I think one of the DVD recorders with built in VHS can do it.
As for your comment about the horizontal being burned up, the horizontal is 5 inches below the center of exhaust for a turbine, and 13 inches back from it. The horizontal stabilizer is high-temp epoxy, cured at 250 degrees, and epoxy can take a slightly higher temp. than it is cured at. A guy from JetCat turbines did a temperature survey for me a few years ago and at the stabilizers location behind the engine he reported a temperature of 280 degrees, in a static run, with no airflow past the engine. I could even cure the epoxy at, say 270 degrees to help out, and a person could apply the BVM ceramic paint in the center section area, followed by some high-temp colored paint and there would be no problem. The turbine could even be mounted one or two inches higher than the normal centerline of the fuselage as an added extra precaution. Also, the photo Richard is speaking of shows the exact size of the aircraft compared to a person. That is one problem that has reduced sales, I think it is even larger than a KingCat, so if you don't make the tail-section detachable you just about have to have a pickup to transport it. The tail-section can be made detachable with not too much extra work. Just make a separation behind the gear well and use large dowels or tubes and fasteners. I just thought of something, I will go to the neighbors and see if they have a VHS/DVD recorder and see if I can get a downloadable file on the flight. That way I can attach it for anyone who wants to see it. |
RE: Glascat
We know that GlassCats have flown, we were talking about the apparent lack of actual flying StarCats, NOT GlassCats!
As for the horizontal being fried: I think it will be just fine. It is far enough back and low enough that it will see elevated temps, but if it really is cured pre-preg, I think it will be just fine. But the TRUE test is after 80 turbine flights. |

OK, here is the real complete photo, from the Museum of Flight Black Tie event to honor Pete Conrad (Apollo 12) in July, 2000. I met Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell, Rusty Schweikert, and a few of the other guys. Tom Selleck and James Cameron (Titanic) were supposed to be there but had to cancel two days before the event.
Also, good news for future model development. Looks like the White House is getting involved with this Lawsuit against the FAA that some of us Air Traffic Controllers have. Turns out what they did violated Section 2301 of Title 5 of the US Code. According to that section the President can issue an Executive Order to the FAA to settle the lawsuit and correct the violation. Since it was a wrongful distribution of a fixed amount of money they can pay us out of the Dept. of Justice Judgement Fund, and reduce the next pay raise for all controllers by about 7 dollars per paycheck and pay back the Judgement fund over a one year period. I'm sure that when President Bush finds out they can settle it without cost to the government if he orders it that way, it is a "no-brainer" and he will sign it (who cares if 14,500 controllers are pissed off about losing 7 bucks a paycheck, Bush can't be re-elected anyway). That would include ordering the FAA to rehire the three of us who resigned, at least partially because of it. I could only come up with the money for the lawsuit by resigning and using part of my retirement fund. So here pretty soon I will have about 200 Large to put into the aircraft development, which means that once I get several kits out flying sales will increase and the price will have to go way up. Now is your chance to get some kits at rock bottom prices, finish them very nicely and sell them later for a handsome profit. Ka ching! |
RE: Glascat
Richard,
I just cut open a small section of the wing you returned, where the hinges go in for the flaps. There is, in fact, 1/8 inch lite-ply backed up by 5/8 triangular balsa stock for the hinges to go through if you would have used the pre-drilled holes. You can't see it very well by looking into the predrilled holes, but it is there. With four large Robart hinges holding the flaps on that would have been plenty. Lesson to be learned, put it together the way it was meant to be, with the hinges in a "V" shape and the hingeline below the wing, just like on a full-size airplane. That is why the holes were predrilled, so the hinge line would be perfectly lined up. That is why the flaps are airfoil shape, so they will open a slot in front of the flap for airflow to improve efficiency, so the flap doesn't stall. On an external hinge line this in known as a slotted flap, or if the flap operates in tracks it is called a Fowler. Don't assume I don't know what I am doing. |
RE: Glascat
Eddie,
If someone on here could buy and sell John Travolta all day long why don't they provide the funding for the full-scale StarJet project? Budweiser is interested in it as the "Budweiser Jet" to fly at airshows, and Playboy is highly interested in it, so whoever gets in on the ground floor now will make a killing. |
RE: Glascat
Actually.. with the position of the stab.. I wouldn't worry about the heat.. I'd worry about the compression lift causing a severe nose down force. At full power on the takeoff roll, I'd be suprised if you could rotate the aircraft at all.
|
RE: Glascat
Doug,
If that were true it would also happen on the prop version, which it didn't. Remember, the stab has a short span and with the curvature of the rear of the outer booms the air has plenty of room to escape to avoid pressure buildup, not to mention that the large elevator is highly effective in the wake of prop, or jet, blast. Besides, even with a small degree of rotation the airplane will become airborne before any compression ever happens. To all on this forum. Check out www.highflightproductions.com They have two DVD's containing the Air Force footage of the F-104, with the High Flight poem being recited, that was used for midnight television station signoff in the '60s. It also includes the Air Force version using the T-38. Several other usages of the poem are included, including a John Denver song (The Higher We Fly) and Patty Wagstaff speaking about the poem, etc. etc. |
RE: Glascat
ORIGINAL: Doug Cronkhite Actually Eddie.. I can't imagine anyone even believing any of this nonsense. The only part of it that is nonsense is what is obvious (going to the moon). The rest is all true. I still haven't called Ellen Travolta yet, but I want a real nice paint job on the model before I show it to her. She does work with the local college summer theatre. It seems that about 50% of the people around here know that she lives nearby. |

*******Don't assume I don't know what I am doing. ************** Oh, I do not think anyone here doubts the ***FACT*** that you don't know what your doing. As for the hinges, you do not have a clue, those hinges were going to fail. 1/8 inch balsa for a 3/16th inch by 1-1/4 long Robart. Yep, you sure know your stuff. I think you just sold ten more kits Tracy. Anyone here, that buys the fact, that at 90mph+ a piece of 1/8 balsa is going to hold these robarts in, is NOT a turbine pilot!!!!!!!!!! You seem to have all day and night to fabricate stories beyond TV and Movies, but for some reason, you couldn't finish a wet dream with a chain saw, in a water bed. (much less anything else, like a video to show your flights, or something that may even represent some shred of creditability). Maybe you and Buzz, John, and Heff can get together and see if they can make a movie based on all your far fetched, comedy based, totally unbelievable post, from here on this thread on RCU, now that may be quicker and easier than trying to get everyone here to try and fly-fix-manufacture your ill faithed air frames and b/s. |
RE: Glascat
pilot dude, good luck on the playboypubebudweiserwelcomebackkottertravolta jet. should do well. also, if you get the airtraffic lawsuit settled and get your job back please let us all know and where you will be working. an admirer, barry

Seriously, though...Travolta himself is SERIOUSLY rich...I sincerely doubt ANYBODY on this forum can buy and sell John Travolta. Hef's not that rich...richer than ME, mind you...but, beleive it or not, Playboy is not that profitable, not as much as people think, anyway... |
RE: Glascat
The reason these guys do so well is because they make good decisions. Check out www.viperjet.com Did they not make a good decision? |
RE: Glascat
The reason these guys do so well is because they make good decisions. By the way, the guys who did the ViperJet started on a shoestring budget of about half a million dollars in 1997. They finally got things together about 4 years ago, and have sold at least 21 kits at $180,000 each. |
RE: Glascat
Richard,
Read my post again. I said there was 1/8 inch PLYWOOD mounted vertically, the length of the wing, like a spar web, with 5/8 inch triangle balsa stock behind it the length of the flap, mounted right in front of the flap for the hinges to go into. The hinges would be secured by at least 1/2 inch of solid material, including going through the 1/8 ply. The hinges would come apart before they come out of the solid wood. If you did a high speed dive with full flaps they MIGHT get ripped out, but probably not even then. |
RE: Glascat
Todd,
Let me know what your DARPA contract calls for. I think the 37% size StarJet (11 foot wingspan) may fit the bill nicely. If you may want to work together on it I can send you some photos of the fuselage plug next to something to indicate the size of it. I could do a video tape if you like. That way the DARPA funding could get the thing finished with a 36-45 pound turbine. How many do they need? What is their purpose? What are their requirements. Also, a few years ago the Redstone Army Arsenal contacted me about the possibility of providing military target drones. What do you think of working together on that? |
RE: Glascat
That's why it's good that I have Ellen Travolta's phone number. I think when John sees the StarJet he will want to get it going. I should have some good news, one way or another, soon.

RE: Glascat
StarCat Aircraft kit. Back in production (improved version). Designed for a pusher engine, such as the OS BGX or Supertigre 3250. We have received enough orders for this kit that we have had to hire two additional production professionals. On January 1st the price will increase to $600, and on January 10th to $700. Possible further price increases thereafter.
Tracy, According to your claim as highlighted above...could I get contact information for a few of your customers. I would like to get an unbiased report on the quality of the Starcat along with some quality pic's and other detailed info. Quite frankly, no one in the jet forum who may have purchased the kit (PES) is beating the key board to bring any real pertinent information forward. Between RCU & several other related boards that I frequent, I have yet to see anyone claim they have purchased/received or plan on building this kit...even as a pusher. How about an itemized list of the actual kit components, plans, instruction's...etc; that are included at time of delivery, and actual time of shipment after order is placed. |
RE: Glascat
I'm not normally one to slam, discredit or direct pun towards anybody but this here is just hard to let go.I certainly dont know Tracy or who he is really is behind RCU but his character & convo on RCU is nothing short of hard to believe and very hard to take seriously.I am definately not a jet expert nor do I know the first thing about fabricating/designing a kit from mold form, etc but how in the hell can anyone honestly expect to sell multiple kits let along just one if a Starcat HAS NEVER flown to date on TURBINE power? He says that they have flown on glow power, that doesnt mean ANYTHING or prove the planes strength, flight traits ,etc.Everything about a jet CAN change when you switch the powerplant from a glow motor to a turbine! It is also dangerous when the airframe hasn't been proven with a turbine at all If anything I am taking in some good fun laughter after work each day reading this thread. And who said you had to even leave the house to enjoy the best rollercoaster ride!! This one has endless loops, turns & excitement and I didnt have to even walk the amusement park all day !! Steve |
RE: Glascat
Tracey,
1/8 inch of Superman is not going to hold those hinges in, you need to reread this until you understand your substandard design is just that SUBSTANDARD, and NOT ready for turbine power. You also need to come to terms with the fact that the substandard Glasscat kit was returned to you for other reasons, we fixed the hinges. |
RE: Glascat
Countryboy,
The only people who have purchased Glasscat kits from this guy, have complained about receiving partial kits (incomplete), as a matter of fact a few years ago on the RCJets list, someone (I forget the guys name) came forward about not being sent anything after purchasing a kit. When we were getting ready to ship back our kit, Tracey wanted us to ship the kit to someone else that was in-turn going to pay the actual person he owed an entire kit to, that never shipped. And as far as I know, there were only a few kits sent-sold. You can see the Glasscat kit here in the very first photo: http://www.conceptserviceselectrical...at_website.htm this is as received. Also in this first photo, you can see the wing tubes that were the main reason we returned the kit. Missing the canopy, and there are no instructions. I'm sure he could post the instructions if they exist, but my money says they have not been drawn as of this date. I can think of many people that have seen the kit I had, Woketman, Eddie Weeks, all of the MS Gang, and a good bit of the people here, that were at FL Jets a couple years back. These people are all Very, creditable, and all know what it takes to get in the air with a turbine power plant. I honestly, other than good comedy, can not say anything good about the kits or the person, or the excuses. Personally, just to give himself a little credibility, I'd like to hear from the people he claims bought kits from him, and the people he claims to have hired. Once again, I have to go with its another Heff, John, boogieman story. But thats my opinion. Richard Newman |

ORIGINAL: wojtek hey look, for the past few posts, Tracey is having a conversation with himself [X(] It appears that way because the first sentence is a quote that didn't get shown as a quote. Also, I am thinking now that your claimed association with the Playboy online shopping and speaking with Hef's assistant might all be BS. I gave you my phone numbers, as requested, but haven't heard from you. Am I right? If you have contact info for Christy Hefner ask her to check with Rob Hilburger about the aircraft, and then have her call me so I know your'e on the up and up. (208) 777-3123 |
