ORIGINAL: buckerboy I know someone else whose flying is ruled by ''er in doors'' keeps getting these stunning models and can't get out to fly them:D I also get out flying 3 weekends out of 4, so i'm pretty lucky, either that or unlike Mark, i wear the trousers in our house lol On the viper, it looks like i made the right decision going with the 160:) |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
ORIGINAL: Ali I got to fly two vipers this past weekend. One with P-160 and the other with P-200 power. P-200 has the edge for sheer vertical power, but as I showed the 160 powered viper could easily go out of site vertical after a straight run ( Not sure how much more vertical than out of sight anyone could want ) The rest of the flight envelope the P-160 buried the P-200. Lighter Easier to manage the speed Much improved slow speed handling. I could really feel the extra weight of the 200 version wanting to bite me in the same low and slow pattern that the 160 version had no trouble with. More floaty touchdown Much softer and less aggressive stall. Both version dropped a wing but with the 160 version I could fly out of it ( Catch the wing drop ) 200 version actually went into 1/2 a rotational spin. Oh and of course the flight times were longer on the 160 version. The P200 Viper was still a great plane to fly ( So dont get too despondent all you guys that have gone down that route) Its just the lighter version is that much greater. Ask me if I would ever have a P200 in one of my vipers......... Nope! Regards Al P.S I forgot to mention... We were flying at an elevated field in 30 deg temps with high humidity and the Jet Cat 160 Sx didnt struggle to fly the Viper in anyway! btw if you have to many 160sx on stock i could use 4 of them , nex delivery is in week 9 ihear ;) |

Lol John
I've had to buy a caravan for this season as we have been blessed with our first nipper and although Natalie was camping on an airfield for 4 days, 3 weeks before Isabelle was born, I didn't think i'd get away with tenting it this year :D |

[sm=thumbs_up.gif] Looks like the Boomers are growing down there in Aussie John, looks a nice site [sm=thumbs_up.gif] |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
Ali, interesting analysis regarding the P-160 and P-200. I fly my P-200 powered Viper at 1/2 throttle most of the time and I never feel like it needs a P-200. In the future, I may yank the 200 out and put it in a plane that needs it and stick a 160 class turbine in the VJ.

That looks like a great site John. I lived in Noosa for a while back in '99- 2000 and visited herveybay at some point. I'd move back at a drop of a hat if business would let me ;)

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
what have you been smoking? or is it the jetlag btw if you have to many 160sx on stock i could use 4 of them , nex delivery is in week 9 ihear Hey Sandor.... Dont smoke, and that post was written just as I was leaving the D.R so no jet lag. Plenty now that I am back in the UK. [:'(] I have 2 160sx and 2 p200 Sx on the shelf right now so no, my advice/ opinion is not based on sales. Hell if it were I would be better off selling the 200 sx as there is more money to be made. I base what I say on real life experience. I have had a few flights on the Viper now and I do feel its a better plane on the 160. Each to their own I guess, and as I said the model is still superb on a 200SX... just that its better on a 160 ( But as with allot of things in life some guys need to make up for a lack of finesse with raw power I guess ;) ) Regards Al |

RE: Another Skymaster Viper
I agree with Ali.
I have flown one with a Beohtec 180 and thought it was way overpowered. This plane has a lot of wing area and flies kind of like a big glider. The last thing it needs is a P200sx, unless you want to hover it off course:D A 160 or maybe even a 120-140 engine would be a perfect match IMO. |

I have been having a blast with my big viper over the past week. I almost forget how good a flying plane this is.
Just a quick reminder to you Vjet owners out there. Check your composite inner control surface fairings. I had one catch at the weekend and it cracked the wing skin [:@] I use a very gentle heat ( From my heat gun at a distance ) To soften the epoxy then just tweek the fairing down slightly and hold till it sets. Couldn't resist some photos from talented photographer Derrick Threatt! |
RE: Another Skymaster Viper
I am just in the process of having some custom sticker sets made for the Viper. These will include the chrome Rivets that when applied really make a difference to the appearance of the model. Not to mention chrome fuel fill caps, some vents and other sudo scale details.
Anyone else interested? I am taking my baby 2m Viper home with me tonight and hope to make a start tomorrow. I may even do a basic build thread. I say basic as I need this one in the air super quick in time for Florida jets! Regards Al |

Finally I found a field mounting table for my viper, stable, foldable, washable, with easily accessible and practical storage pockets for tools, batteries, diapers (I always need some during the first flights:D), padded and... already done! I sell them for $300 (momentarily out of stock:D) plus S&H but if you go to Ikea or visit the site and search "SPOLING Changing table" you can find it for $69.99 (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00147337)
Really a good deal!! [sm=thumbs_up.gif] Alessandro |

Hi All
A bit more done on my viper. The first tray is done and ready to install for the final time. I just have to wait to exchange my Powerbox Sensor Switch for one with a longer lead. The green trays really brighten up the inside of the model, which is painted grey and look cool. Well i think they do anyway ;) Dunc |
