Default Why not gas instead of nitro?

Just thinking
Why don't they make the engines gasoline instead of nitro? Nitro is expensive and wastes real fast. Gas is not expensive and lasts longer.

but also, gasoline is not as combustable as methanol/nitromethane. you get a lot more power and performance from glow fuel. and also glow fuel is a mixture of oil and other stuff which makes it so expensive.

Yes I heard of that engine too but that is the only one. Most of the engines in the market are nitro.
Even with that price you still can't compare $30 to $2 per gallon.

Are they really that much weaker than nitro to put them out of the market?

If you were to use octane fuel, any engine manufactuing company would halft to chage their who engine layout, not to mention the engine would need to be much bigger because you need a bigger glowplug in order to ignight the fuel. Even though octane runs much cleaner than Nitro, nitro puts out atleast 3x as much power.

(It smells better too. )

This company [link=http://www.molzermoweryracing.com/off_road.html]Molzer Mowery Racing[/link] manufactures GAS R/C vehicles.

The following are some examples of their off-road vehicles.

The Biggest And Baddest truck is comming very very soon. Call one of Our Dealers now to reserve yours.

The chassis of the 1:6 scale models Marder, Beetle Off-Road and On-Road are identical, they only differ in bodies, tires and chassis accomodation. The models are built on a 4mm u-bended chassis. All borings underneath the chassis are countersunk, therefore the screw heads can't bear out. Double wishbones at front and rear axle as well as 4 bulk oil-pressure shock absorbers guarantee perfect ground adherence. All rotating parts are supported by ball-bearings. Rear gear wheels, differential gears and all driving elements are case-hardened. The ABS-undertray (Beetle) and side guards (Marder) protect the models from dirt.

my friend made up some "home-made" gas for his savage. It was made of a pinch of nitro, gasoline, wd-40 all mixed up. He said it ran pretty good, had low RPMS not as much power. It still would spin the tires but not much speed. And it looked like a masquito fogger cause it smoked so much

I hope this isnt against forum rules or anything here....its an old advertisement from the March 2000 edition of RCCA:

Would be cool if they still made something like that, or better yet, just sold the engines.

joe, Nitro is much more powerful than gas. I just bought a 25CC gas string trimmer and that thing only puts out .8 HP. my 2.6CC engine in my Cen truck puts out 1.2 HP. So for a tenth the size and 1.5 times the HP, nitro is pretty powerful stuff.

Weight for weight, nitro engines are way more powerfull, and as power is way more important than economy in scale engines, thats what will dominate the market.

I'm sorry to say this but that company doesn't make the trucks and cars...those are manufactured by FG in Germany...

There are lots of 1/5 & 1/6 trucks and cars on the market that runs on gas, FG is the most popular maker, HARM is another one...there are more, most of them are European...

$ 1200 is the retail price for the FG truck. Street price is $850 + sh and no radio gear. I think that is reasonable compared to a hopped upped T-max or savage. I build my own gas cars. Both trucks have a 3 hp stock motor and foreword/reverse transmission.

You failed to mention the FG Monster is 2WD, but will soon have a 4WD option as well as a RTR option. If it ships with the latest Zenoah engine, I would have though it has more than 3 hp unless you are writing about the engines in your trucks pictured. Then again, I don't know much about the Zenoah G230RC1 or G230RC02 engines.

Edit: Since so many people also don't use the search button, below is a link to the thread I started about the FG Monster. There are also a few comments from one of the US Importers on the same thread.

Molzer Mowery Racing manufactures GAS R/C vehicles.
MolzerMoweryRacing is one of two current "U.S. Importers" of FG--MMR is not a manufacturer.

The main reason (I think) that nitro based fuel is used for models is it's much safer to handle than gasoline. Could you imagine the carnage if every T Maxx/Savage, etc. owner had a 5 gallon can of gas in the same place they now store their model fuel?
