WE FOUND THAT WHEN WE BROKE THE REAR BODY POST IT SNAPPED FORWARD AND PUT A DENT IN THE STOCK HEADER PIPE APPROX 3/4 IN LONG AND NOT QUITE A 1/4 DEEP . OUR QUESTION IS NOT ABOUT LOOSING POWER AS MUCH AS, CAN IT CAUSE A GREAT DEAL INCREASE IN RUNNING TEMP?
WOULD AN A/M EXHAUST AND AIR FILTER HELP KEEP THE TEMP DOWN WE HAVE NOTICED THAT IT'S BEEN DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE TEMP DOWN IN THE 230 TO 270 RANGE. WE RUN TRAXX PLUG W 30% NITRO HELP PLEASE

If you are running at the 230 mark that is about perfect, if you are jumping above 250 I would say richen the HSN by an 1/8 of a turn and check your temps accordingly. Using 30% nitro is another problem you will have with temps, the higher the nitro content the richer you are going to have to run, Traxxas recommends 20%..

thanks for the reply do you know if changing the pipe and the air filter will help keep the temp down and if we change fuel what problems do we look for our savage runs fine on 30 % but the maxx is tricky.

Changing from 30% to 20% should lower engine temperatures. I'd initially leave the carb settings when you switch and adjust them only after reaching operating temperature.
As for the dent in your header, it really won't affect engine performance or temperature (if it's the size you stated). An aftermarket air cleaner and exhaust in general will not reduce engine temperatures, but can have a positive effect on performance.

AS FOR GETTING THE TEMP DOWN ID LOOK AT AN AFTERMARKET FINNED HEADSINK LIKE FROM ............CRAZYNUT RACING THEY ESTIMATE A DECREASE IN TEMP BY AS MUCH AS 50% AND THAT COULD ALLOW YOU TO LEAN THE ENGINE OUT FOR MORE TOP END BUT IF YOU DO THAT ID ALSO RECOMEND USING AN ENGINE ADDITIVE LIKE SNAKE OIL OR A METEL TREATMENT ......ITS NOT REALLY NECESSARY BUT ITS A GOOD INVESTMENT

OK THIS IS WHAT WE DID W STOCK ENG. REPLACED BENT HEADER W STOCK HEADER ( UNTIL A CVEC COMES IN THAT WE ORDERED) SET ALL ADJ TO FAC SPEC. ENG STARTED W LITTLE OR NO PROBLEM. AFTER IDLING FOR APPROX 5MIN AND SHORT THROTTLE BURSTS IN BETWEEN. OUR TEMP AT IDOL WAS 235 TO 240 WE DIDN'T EVEN RUN A HALF TANK!. DAY 2 SAME DEAL BUT ACTUALLY RAN 3/4 TANK OF FUEL OUT OF TRUCK THIS TIME. ALL THE WHILE RICHENING UP AS THE TEMP WENT UP AND UP TO APPROX 340.WITH MORE TUNING WE DID GET THE TEMP TO APPROX 300. WE DID THE PINCH TEST TO SEE IF THE LSN WAS OK AND IT WAS. AFTER WE QUIT RUNNING OUR HSN WAS OVER 7 1/2 TURNS OUT!! CAN 30% NITRO MAKE THAT AMOUNT OF DIFF IN TEMP OR IS IT TIME TO REPL THE ENG THE THING SEEMS TO HAVE GOOD COMPRESSION AND IDOLS FINE.

What fuel are you running? Some engines don't like running some fuels (the specific castor blends seem to play a large role).
My Rossi engines run fine on blue thunder or traxxas fuels, but run hotter that the blazes of .... when I use O'donnell regardless of carb settings. I know the trx 15 engine was the same way. If you're not using blue thunder or traxxas fuel, give it a try.

YOU KNOW KIPER ID RECOMEND DITCHING THE CVEC AND SAVE YOURSELF SOME CASH AND GET YOURSELF A STOCK ASSOCIATED PIPE FOR THE TMAXX, IT'LL REALLY BOOST THE PERFORMANCE AND FROM BEING AT THE LOCAL TRACKS HERE IN OREGON THATS ALL MANY RACERS HERE RUN ..JUST THE STOCK GT PIPE AND TRAXXAS'S BIG BORE HEADER AND BEST OF ALL YOU'LL SAVE YOURSELF ANY WHERE FROM 20 TO 30 BUCKS AND THAT WOULD BE GREAT FOR MORE FUEL
