I would suggest you go to your Local Hobby Shop and see what they offer. I made the mistake by purchasing a nitro truck from tower hobbies, btw is an excellent company. I ended up breaking parts, but.. I had no LHS support. So I had to either wait for my LHS to get the part, or wait for tower to ship.. I spend lots and lots of money on shipping costs. I would overnight parts and that does add up.
So go w/ your LHS. If your looking for RTR, Associated, Losi, Traxxas and numerous others offer good quality products.
Have fun, Welcome to Nitro

Well you can always see what your hobby shop has, then if it is cheaper on the net, buy it from the internet and you can still get parts from your hobby shop...

hey man, i'm here to help and give some advice someone gave to me when i just got into the hobby. you don't really have to go to your lhs, that doesn't matter that much as long as you don't mind waiting a little while to get parts here and there. first off "RTR" means ready to run (if you didn't know). this is what kind of truck you want, an RTR one. kits are for more experienced people. the absolute best truck you can get is a "team associated rc10gt". this is a great truck for newbs, its easy to work on, it has tons of hop-ups (upgrades), its very durable, its cheap, and best of all, its worthy for experienced racers too. here is a link to this truck at the cheapest place you can get it. ( http://www.ultimatehobbies.com//p349.html ) if you buy that truck you will need a fuel, 12 batteries, and glow plugs. if you have any questions just ask.

Make sure you get a rechargeable glo-plug igniter, the ones that run off of regular "C" alkaline (energizer, duracell) batteries will kill a battery in as little as 5 starts, and bad batteries are a headache you DON'T need when just gettting started. They cost around 20-25 bucks, but they are a must have. Get one with a meter. The meter won't be precise, but you can see when the unit needs recharging. This really is a must have.

hey frost, you know the rc10gt rtr plus comes with a rechargeable glow igniter, right? so therefore, sandman, you don't need to buy one of those. the glow plugs you want to use are 'OS A3' or 'OS 8'. now you want to go to your lhs for fuel. depending on what the stock the most, thats what you want to get. a couple of the best are TRINITY Monster Fuel and Odonnel Fuel. hope thise helps.

hey sandman, the link i gave you comes with a rechargeable 'glow igniter'. the glow igniter heats up the 'glow plug'. you don't need to buy a glow igniter although you do need to buy about 3 glow plugs. like i said 'os 8' or 'os a3' work great. they run for around 5 dollars each. the reason you want to get fuel at your lhs is because i don't think a lot of places will ship fuel because its falmmable, i may be wrong though.

definately, there isn't anything wrong with the gt's design. he's right, the rc10gt is OLD but the link i gave you is to the very new one. glow plugs won't last long during break in but after break in, they last a long time usually.

hpi dude, i know other people may think that there are other trucks better than the rc10, but i was suggesting that this would be a great truck for him and i think he agrees. its a very trouble-free truck. 10 glow plugs may be a little excessive and i would go with 3-5 plugs.
