Got my MT2 on Wednesday and I think rotor start is a little troublesome. Everywhere u go, u have to bring this "extra" tool with you. Whereas pull start, is "build-in". Furthermore, u have to recharge it. I just ended my 7th tank and filled up on the 8th tank when the rotor starter died on me [:@]
Since Im a Noob, i shall not complain further
hehe.
I have not use pull start, obviously. So what u guys think? Is pull start easier?

Is pull start easier? not really. some say it is. But you will really get tierd of pulling especially since ur a noob your engine is lickly not to be tuned right so it may stall. I have had A pull start and an ez start and for i dont race I would choose EZ start any day of the week.

make sure your engine is primed before you try to start it. This will save the battery in your starter a bit. (be careful of flooding, as this could break your starter)

iv never tried ez start but pull start suits me fine. oyu can tell if the engine is flooded by how hard it is to pull. plus its one less thing to charge and carry around. my old car starts after 1-3 pulls anyway so my arm rarely gets tired. the new ones a different story...

I like the idea of a roto start and hate pull starts, but maybe you could try a higher capacity battery or just get two batteries so you can use it longer.

I've used both on my rc10gt and can say the roto start is better. With my pull start, I would have to warm up the engine before it would turn over easy. Very annoying when your out in a field. I dont mind having to carry a small cordless drill with me and since the battery will last quite a few days, no problem. You gotta remember that your only using the drill for maybe a minute at most and I dont let my truck die unless for some specific reason or going home. If your engine turns over really easy with a pull start thats fine but mine didnt and I hated having to put the body back on and off whenever the engine died.

yeah I get about 50 starts out of one battery charge w/ rotostart. then it only takes about 30 min. to charge anyway..........not an issue

I upgraded my evader to a roto start because my pull start always would stick and I would be using a ton of force to turn it over![:@]

EZ start if you can possibly convert. but if its pull vs. roto, i'd say pull.

The EZ start has the electric motor on the car. This adds a ton of weight and make is almost impossible to work around the engine.
The roto start adds just about as much weight as a pullstart to the car, and you have to carry the same weight as a EZ start. The EZ start also has that retarded igniter on it, This means you 7.2v batt. is pushing enough juice to turn over the engine, and get the glow plug hot enough to ignite the fuel. I would take a roto start over EZ-start any day.
I like pull-start the best. Out the the three engines I have owned, I have had better luck with a pull-start than an EZ start. One of the best parts of nitro is not charging batteries, why ruin that with a EZ/roto start?
As long as my engine is primed, my car usually starts within the first three pulls.
I feel starter boxes are better suited for racing than bashing, and since this is more of a bashing forum, I won't go into them here.

This is one thing I'm debating- since I'm trying to decide whether to keep the rotostart on the LST I'll be getting or replace it with a pullstart.
I'm leaning towards pullstart. It's just easier to deal with IMO. A lot of people complain about having problems with them, but I have yet to really see any. Sure, it popped apart once and I had to put it back together, but that was no huge deal. Also, mine's going into its 4th gallon and is still going strong; if it'll last that long I'll probably go with it.
Not to mention for a rotostart (ie the Tigerdrive) you haveto get the pullstart version of the engine, which is $20 more than the non-pull, plus buy a $20 tigerdrive.
Now if you're talking racing I'd definetly go with a starter box. Not so much for ease of starting but for the lower CG of a non-pullstart engine mount and not losing any power to the OOB.

Im a pullstart guy. I dont have to carry any extra tools to start up my truck that way. Plus its something about the pullstart, starting up an RC with the PS is just priceless to me.

How i wish they implement turning on the engine without any tools (pull start, rotor start, ez start). Like turning on a car engine with the twist of a key.

ez start-never had it or tried it rotostart-crap. the buttom jamed sometimes, it was slow, it was hard to get it in the slot, the battery consantly died. pullstart-small, easy, light, already mounted. my arm doesnt really get tired but when the engien and pullstart are working this would be number 1 or 2. starter box- yes its big, but its soo easy. i havent tried one yet but my frind has one and it starts his new engine everytime within a couple seconds, usually less. if i were driving where i liive, this would be my preference. and a lot of he time i DO drive on my land.

The only difference is that you carry the battery instead of it being mounted to the car.

I've only ever had pull starts. I'm not crazy on lugging around starter boxes. I do want to try a rotostart, I wouldn't buy it, waste of money, but if I buy the MT2, then I'll use it.

I currently have the e-z start and it is okay but the glow plug doesent have time to preheat b4 the engine starts spinning. Also I have serous troble with pull starts(spring snaping, ropes snapping, handle falling off ext.) but I still keep going back to the pull start. I think it is kinda cool. I have yet to use the roto start system just because then I have to cary the glow ignitor and the starter motor in my pocket. So here it is I prefer the pull start for when the engine is already hot, I prefer the e-z start when I am out bashing and all I have to do is plug it in the back and push the button to start. and the ro-to start sounds to be the best for cold start ups due to the fact that you can pre heat the glow plug b4 turning the engine over. Some one needs to make a roto-ez-pull system.

I use the duratrax quick pit starter.
Two batteries and two motors. It really flips the engine over. Pluse it last longer because it doesnt bog the single motor clear down. The witch has never stuck on me ethire.

You need two hands for a roto start. One for the drill and the other for the radio. Maybe your just not skiled enough.

Well I'm running the pull start on mine right now. My engine is not properly tuned yet, so pull start gets tiresome fast. I also have the little bit you can stick into a drill to turn over the crank. I love that. You just hook up the drill, zing, and the engine is being spun over way faster than the pull start could ever hope to, but I put the pull start on because I don't have a cordless drill, only a regular plug in kind.
