Default OFFICIAL ST RACING THREAD

i couldnt find one so i decided to make one myself. this is the place to talk about suspension setup, engines for racing, clutch setups, tyres per surface etc etc.

to start it off, i run a modified traxxas nitro sport and i race it at my local (1.5 hours drive away) racetrack, just this weekend i placed 3rd and the guys who beat me were a pro and a sponsered guy, and im only 15 so im stoked with my 'toy' traxxas.

i also started a local (20 mins away) track with some mates. just got permission to use a gravel parking lot that is unused on sundays and went from there.

I want to get into racing my jato. All I have to do is convert it to a single speed right. Also, does anyone no of any race tracks in northwestern ohio. Maybe I will just build my own track. Is it hard to. My dad has a lot of land (kind of a sandy, dirt grass area, we call it the sand hill. Its jsut kind of a piece of land my dad bought for no reason. What do you guys think, sound like a good summer project?

yep all you have to do is a couple of thing, first is the single speed conversion, also are the wheels, you will need to buy 2.2 inch rims (rusty ones bolt right on) and 2.2 tyres then your set to race at a club event, thats if they have transponders to rent, otherwise you will need to buy your own.(transponders clip onto the car so a computer can count/time laps). a track is not bery hard to build/run i got permission to use a gravel parking lot on the day when it was not used (sunday) then i went to a local mine (you might not be able to do this but any large diametre tube works for lining) and asked for old unusable hydrolic lines. then i called everyone up and put up signs at the LHS (i work for them and this was instigated through them). i get there 1 hour early and drag out the lines, then wet it down with the tap that is close (we needed permision for that too) and for lap counting we only run 5 trucks at a time and my mum tallies them as they pass the line.

Alright people dont laugh!! but depending on where you live and if you have horses, we have 10 acres, before i buily my track I just made a few jumps in the form of a track using horse manure lol, surprisingly it worked great, once that stuff packed down and dried it was great, and the truck never did stink, and the manure never got inside or outside the truck becuase once it is packed down and dried out by the sun it's like packed down clay!

If it's an evader the first thing to modify is the truck,,, trade it in for a GT,, at least

why do people hate the evader so much??? ive had one for a while and im on my forth gallon and ive had minimal problems with it. just a part here and there after a bad crash and fuel, thats it, no mods. in other words, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!!!

If your looking at some club level racing i would suggest just lots of practice. also get a few sets of rims, front and rear, then on the race day ask around as to what everyone else is running and buy some of those, for front and rear. you will be very surprized about the difference a set of tyres suitable to the surface is. also find a friendly guy and ask them some advice on the setup per that perticular track, most are only happy to help you out.

alright, so there is no perfect car. it just sounded to me like you were one of those people that bash on it all the time when you said trade it in for something else.

Dann,
it's "he" ,, very funny

Evader = good first/cheap car to see if you like the hobby. I'm fine with that

"Races" trucks = rc10gt/xxx-nt/mst-1, Why you say??

Because when you go to the track to race, these are the top three you will find, so if you have X-brand car, no one can help you much. Most shops that are tied to a track will stock AE and Losi parts, because that is what the racers have. Also when you ask for set up tips/help, the racers at the rack will have knowledge of those trucks.

So in conclusion if you intend to buy a truck to "race", you're better off with those three choices
especially in California, where DARTH_EVADERst(the person I was responding to) is.

All IMHO, I'm free to have an opionion right?

i totally agree. the 3 trucks to get for racing are the GT, the AD2, and the MST-1.

myself i race a traxxas nitro rustler, but it took almost the price of the truck itself to get it competitive. but even a XXX-NT RTR II is a competitive racer out of the box. i myself will gladly tell any future basher to go buy a good old rusty, but i will tell any 'newbie' racer to go buy one of those three.

so basically in this im just agreeing with 'had enough'.

i just got out of the 8th scale truggy (LSP) & buggy(MBX5) now i just got the MST-1 kit got a new nova M.12 to put in it and a O'donnell hardcoated pipe w/ losi header. the thing is i want to be better at the wheel (im not bad now) 10th scale makes you a better driver. so this winter im racing at a indoor track about 45min away from me. cant wait to experience it , im waiting on my associated diff balls and a few parts from carolinas and im ready to start the build. this is the 5th kit ive built in the last yr. its wayyy cheaper i know that, $115 for the kit

another thing the MST 1's have trouble with is the idler gear, id suggest getting a brass idler for it. yeh 1/8th buggies are for great drivers but 1/10 ST makes you that driver. (yes i would quote it if i remember who wrote it but i dont)

Dann, and zzman
I've been running the stock idler gear in mine for 2.5 years now and never had one strip out
So long as you don't hammer down the slipper, and have it adjusted right, the stock plastic idler is fine. You just replacew them when you replace the diff gear anyway. The brass idler is a safty net for those that like to lock down the slipper/diff

Hows the water down under, safe to swim?
