Default Gas Groovy

I am not sure that I am in the right forum for this question but I hope someone can help.

I have a World Models Groovy 90 that I have been flying with a Saito 125. I am thinking about removing the Saito and trying a gas engine. I was wondering if anyone has tried a DLE20 on the Groovy? The plane will just be a Sunday Flyer and not be used for any type competions.

Thanks

is the DLE a rear exhaust, does the Groovey have a tunnel down the belly, if so a pipe would give you a nice clean combo IMO.

How does the all_up weight compare? I was thinking of the same engine in my 1.20 plane. Would be my first gasser. Tins of good reviews on these motors. The next size up I think is a good pattern motor but maybe too heavy for us.

Let me suggest that you make the change. The DLE 20 has considerably more power than the Saito 125; run it with the stock muffler. Vibes and fuel consumption will drop and your toy will be much happier. Weight wise it should be a wash...the DLE is lighter but it has a CDI. Let me also recommend the Tech Aero IBEC IF you decide to go with the gas engine. It eliminates the second battery (5 to 6 ozs savings there) that typically drives the CDI. It is a far safer way to run gas engines plus you arm the CDI remotely with the TX. I use the retract switch for that. Plusits great to set-up your fail safe properly to disarm the CDI if you lose signal. You still crash of course but at least you're not chasing the model.

I have several threads in this forum that discuss all the details you need to be successful withthe popularsmall gassies of today.up to 60cc. Good luck

You won't regret getting the DLE. I have helped set up a couple of them with stock mufflers and it could not be easier. Very well-mannered and reliable engines. As Matt said, the Tech-Aero IBEC is a must-have!!

From Tech Aero directly, Syssa Aircraft or BP Hobbies. Tech Aero is getting more and more distributors on-board as more folks find out howwell this little gizmo works..... Look at the Tech Aero website for info on V-regs, also excelent goodies. Order on-line

Personally I dont't think fail safe should be set up to stop a combustion engine, but rather throttle back to idle, for two reasons:
1. An idling propeller will have a greater braking effect than a stopped propeller, thereby reducing the model's speed.
2. Often the radio link/control is regained after a "glitch", and you will then be able to make it back to the runway and land, instead of landing/crashing somewhere whith a stopped engine.

This is pilot's choise, of course.

Regards,
Magne
