Which Hacker C54 are you using and do you know its max current draw during a flight?

Mike,

Motor - C54-2Y L Acro 6.7.1 Competition

I measure amps static on the ground. I set the throttle as not to exceed 90amps at full throttle. This is the same process I've used to set up C50's 14XL Comp's and Plettenberg 30-10.

OK...thanks. I have a couple of C50 XL motors that I've used in various pattern ships over the years....great motors. I notice you're using the shorter L motor rather than the XL. Is the shorter L motor able to handle the power of 10S packs and 21 - 22" props without getting too hot?

Mike
The C54 L is more than capable of swinging 21" and even 22" props with authority. Hacker recommends 21" props for the C54 in their specifications. Adequate cooling is a must, I have not experienced heat issues with this setup or previous setups considering I live and fly in SE Texas. When performing maintenance of lubing gearboxes (~75-100 flights) I always take note of how the old grease smells and that it does not appear burnt from excessive heat.

Mike, let me answer your question with another question. Since you lean towards 3D, why do the current crop of 3D capable airplanes have such huge control surfaces? I see some where the rudder and elevators are 50% plus the size of the entire surface.
