I will give that a try if this doesn't work. My goal with the wheel pants and fuselage is to spray in some white Klass Kote, lay up the parts and when they leave the mold can be used as is. Or in the case of the fuselage, have a couple trim colors applied and then used.

Well, it sure hasn't gotten any more attractive in the past few weeks has it? Still U***. I am trying my best to be politically correct. As I look at the plug in the parting flange I see a lot of compound curves and a lot of square corners. After the surface coats, carbon tow and filled resin corners are down, I would consider laying the first layers of fabric and bagging it. I realize it is extra work, but I would want to ensure no air pockets and complete surface contact with the initial fabric layers especially if you could get 5 or 6 layers on in the first lamination. If you end up with some small air pockets after that it is not that big of a deal since they would end up deeper in the finished laminate. You may be able to get a perfect mold with just wet layup, but I don't think I would want to try.

Seriously, the Divergent is starting to grow on me. I've done some snooping on the interweb and have seen a couple three similar designs.

It took a bit longer today then expected but I was able to remove the parting flange, do some clean up and get the plug prepped to do the other side. I ended up having to do some sanding on the mold flange, then polish it back out. Then my 10 year old Partall wax didn't want to buff well but after a couple hours I has the surface back to a nice shine. As it sits now, I have the first coat of surface resin on and will apply the second coat first thing in the morning.

Ken, I haven't done any polishing yet. That is the finish left by the PVA. I didn't go into much detail here but most guys spray PVA as per the instructions. I apply it with a foam craft brush. I get much better results this way and it is a faster way to apply with the brush.

I had a set of molds for something once that were white gelcoat. One day out in the sun I was spraying in the blue PVA, building it up a bit at a time swapping between halves. Went upstairs to let it all dry and when I came back the PVA was dark blue and peeling up in the corners from the shrinkage.
Being white, out in direct sunlight and swapping between halves, my eyes were playing a "white balance" trick on me and I couldn't see how much I was building it up. Coming back after a break I saw how much I had sprayed in and it was beyond redonkulas (Shrek reference). I've never tried the foam roller thing, I'll give that a go next time..

This is what I have after about 15 minutes with a small orbital polisher on each side. More then good enough as I am not doing a paint in the mold job. I will shoot some Klass Kote white primer in the mold prior to the layup. Should result in minimal work needed prior to shooting color.

Well, you do have a fuselage half........
Last time I was in your plane room I saw a proper pattern plane. A sexy little built up number with a real engine on it and the nicest looking carbon fiber pipe I think I have ever seen. When will that plane fly? (I may be a tad biased about the pipe).
Keep up the good work.
