Sorry, i'm not sure i understand the question. As specified in the name of the sheet and folder, these parts are made of 1.5mm plywood, not balsa. The 3mm balsa sidewalls will cover the fuselage from firewall to tail, so that includes the 1.5mm plywood parts in your pictures.

I have a somewhat crazy idea ...
Can someone tell me the approximate weight of one wing half?
Then I can estimate whether my project is feasible.
Thank you!

Hi,
My wing panels are 265g each, without servo, linkage or covering. Weight with covering should be around 320g.

Thanks Alex! That sounds good. My wing will be a total of 50g heavier ... so doable.

Hello!
Since it is a wetter summer in our country, l find an our every day and polish Alexs Vortex kit a bit.
Its amazing how nice things go together. At the moment l have made both directions, fixed and movable.
I wonder what kind of hinges Alex recommends for height, direction and ailerons?
Congratulations again to Alex for the outstanding work he shared with us.
Unfortunately, l cant take pictures...

Hi Robi,
I'm glad everything goes well with the assembly, please keep us updated.
I bought a few bags of Radiosouth CA hinges some years ago and used them for all my models:
https://radiosouthrc.com/radio-south...ts/pro-hinges/
I have the 1/4 scale version (yellow bag cover). These are probably the strongest CA hinges that you can find, but i think other CA hinges may work as well.

Alex, good afternoon! I wanted to ask, tell me, please, what is the length of the fuselage? I wanted to know the exact size in millimeters.

Hi Tolvai, the total length of the fuselage is 1996mm with a 71mm long spinner.

And one more question. Is the aircraft skin material included in the submitted laser cut files? Right?

Only the 3mm fuselage flat sides are included in the laser files.
I don't think it's possible to flatten the double curvature surfaces with enough accuracy, at least not with Solidworks. Different balsa grains have different properties, and also the balsa sheets have different properties in the direction of the fibers and perpendicular to it, which makes things a lot more complicated for computer simulations.

Dear Alex, have you ever flown your Vortex P21? Are there any flight features?

Hi Sasha,
I didn't make any progress with my Vortex, the corona situation makes it difficult to ship my planes and tools here in Sweden. Krille made a set of composite parts for me and i will continue when it will be possible.

Krille is flying the Nordic schedule with his Vortex and he seems to be very happy with it. He reported that it flies especially well in high winds, something that was noted by all other pilots watching his flights.

I received some pictures from Andrey, a very talented and experienced builder from Russia working on a Vortex model. He has an interesting build thread on the russian forums and i actually learned a few tricks from him: http://forum.rcdesign.ru/f128/thread556829.html
He made his own composite parts and he is willing to make cowls and canopies for other builders. If you want to contact him, just send me a PM and i'll give you his email address.

Alex, I just want to say that this build thread is very informative. Thanks so much for posting it.

One quick question... in the first page, you have pictures of the fuselage construction and it looks like you are holding the bottom pieces down to a melamine topped building board with straight pins. Is that correct? I can't even begin to get a T-pin to go into melamine.
