Second and perhaps even more important. No more adding after run oil or even running the engine dry at the end of the day.
Just empty the tank clean the plane off and put away.
This is going to take some getting used to! If this is the consensus among the pattern guys, then this is what I will do!

As far as the Bearings go. The rear bearing is the exact same bearing as the OS140RX. So switching to the Stainless Steel rear bearing off the the OS140EFI will cure all your bearing noise.
I have a stainless bearing from Boca; it has blue rubber (seal?) on both sides. I went to put it in my last 120AX and the heat from the oven caused it to ooze a small amount of grease. I have read so much garbage about weather or not to use seals, shields, or whatever so I don't know if I should use it, pop the seals off, or what.

The current bearing sounds a little better after running some fuel through the engine after the winter.

I am so freakin' excited to be flying with you guys in a few short weeks!!!

ONE OF MY OS 120AX BLEW UP AFTER 1.5 YEARS, STILL UNDER WARRANTY, SENT BACK TO TOWER, TOWER WILL NOT FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY BEACUSE OF RUST, EVEN THOUGH I PUT AFTER RUN OIL IN THE ENGINE...SO ONCE AGAIN, WARRANTIES ARE FRICKIN USELESS. BUY THE YS ENGINE NOT THE OS.

I BUY STUFF FROM TOWER ALL THE TIME, THEY STILL SCREWED ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:@]

with the stainless bearing it will not rust. that is why no after run oil is needed.
As far as the bearing oozing grease in the oven. Not sure why you had the new bearing in the oven.

On both my 140RX and my 120AX i replaced the rear bearing with the stainless before i even started the engine. that way no rusted rear bearing.

I put it in my last 120AX, but then found a problem with the engine; removed the bearing which needed heat, and had the engine replaced.

d_bodary,

I am going to have to get another rear bearing. What is the number on the rear bearing for the OS 140EFI? Does Tower carry it?

Has anyone tried an OS 91FX in the Venus II? My 120 AX blew up and I have a 91FX and a 120 AX, but I was thinking of putting the 120 AX in my Funtana X100.

The OS part# is 29430010
Tower# is LXWY09 Price 27.99

There is another way to get this bearing a little less money
Go to Toolpartsdirect.com
Do a search on parts
Look for part#211323-3
it is the EXACT bearing tower sells. Not almost not kind of sorta but the EXACT bearing.
Wanna say it is $20.69

Thanks for the info. That bearing OD is slightly smaller at 36.9mm and the OS 120AX bearing is 37.0mm.

Guaranteed that is the correct part # i gave you. 100% correct. The bearing # i gave you is a direct fit. Notice the #6904 on the bearing.

I would not steer you wrong. You are relying on a Tower somebody who may or may not have actually measured it Versus Well some guy on the internet. But i am telling you that is the correct bearing 100% guaranteed.

d_bodary,

I'm sure you are correct. Boca Bearing has the chrome steel which would be like the stock bearing for $25.95, high speed bearing for $43.95, stainless steel for 51.95, and a ceramic bearing for $96.95. All but the ceramic are listed under the OS 140 RX-EFI.

If you look at the replacement parts on Tower's site for the rear bearing on the 120AX, it says that it is the bearing for ALL engines from 108-160. Since the 140 falls in this category, they must be the same size. The descriptions are by different Tower employees, and not from the manufacturers.

I am glad to see the sealed bearing for the 140. After a few more gallons I'll throw my SS bearing in my 120.

Tower said everything was torn up because the bearing was rusted and gave way in flight and they wanted to rebuild the 120 AX for more than it cost, $331, then discount it since I'm such a good customer and bought lots of stuff...it would cost me $126 for my old engine being rebuilt with 6 mos on a pretend warranty, but I can get a new one for $84 more and a 2 year worthless warranty.

This is after I have bought 6 new OS engines from Tower plus planes, etc, this is the first engine I have sent back for repair, it is still under warranty...

Tower has good deals but if an item blows up under warranty get ready because...

I had a problem where the con rod was making contact with the case. I sent it to Hobby Services under warranty and has a brand new engine back within a week.

With YS, the initial cost is relatively high, but the engine lasts much longer. I have replaced bearings on my old YS63. But never the ring, or lining etc "expensive" parts.

The OS Stainless sealed bearing is 27.99 from Tower and 21.00 from ToolPartsDirect.com
Which equals Less money than Boca

d_bodary,

Thanks for all the info dude. The rear bearing (LXWY09) on Towers site for $27.99 only says "Metal construction, Sealed bearing". It doesn't mention being stainless. Have you bought one before and it said stainless steel on the package?

Can't remember it saying stainless. But i will tell you this i have ran this bearing thru between 65 and 70 gallons of fuel. zero afterrun oil and i don't even run it dry at the end of the day. i just empty the tank. Zero Rust whatsoever.

Start a Discussion in the Pattern Forum about a OS140 RX Replacement bearing. This is just common knowledge among 140RX past and present users. Right now they are probably not running the 120AX. But i'm telling you again the part # i gave you is what you want. The 51.00 from Boca includes a front and rear bearing. The stock front bearing will probably last 800 flights.

Looks like I'm going to get the set and replace both bearing while it's down so Boca it is.

Finally got to fly my Venus II today. It wasn't the best of days to maiden a plane with the wind 10-20 mph and gusting but I really couldn't wait any longer. I did get in two flights and all went well. The plane has a little coupling toward the canopy. Not enough to mix out but I'll really find out on a better day. The OS 120 AX has plenty of power and pulled the plane through the maneuvers nicely. The Mac muffler I'm using made it a bit of a challenge to tune the engine. There was a very fine line between rich a lean. Both flights I thought I had it tuned pretty good and once in the air there was a constant vapor trail. Better being ricn than lean. I'll get it figured out next time I take it to the field. Over all a Very nice flying plane and didn't seem to have any bad habbits. The rudder is very effective so I may have to tone it down a bit.

I bought a slimline pitts-style muffler for my 120 AX it does great, but of course the engine blew after 1.5 years. I ordered another 120 AX, should be here next week. I'm still working on my Venus II, taking my time, plus I have a bunch of other airplanes to fly, so I'm in no hurry. Strong windy crosswinds again today, a good stick day.
