They're Swiss, that'll mean you'll need to recalibrate your meaning of good.
Good there, is normally off the scale superb everywhere else.
Have you seen the pdf info regarding the practice sites?
Do they have it organized?
Oh yes.

Hi friends
Well, we will also try to post some photos and details in www.f3a-israel.com.
Kimmo, I heard a lot of good things about your team form the Israelis that were in WC2005.
I hope to meet you and your team at the practice field.

I was just looking at some of the picture material on the site and it struct me just how light years ahead the Beryll looks.
These two pice where next to each other... the Pinnacle looks stone aged comparison.
The Beryll has got to be the most interesting model for years.
The Matts family sure know a thing or two.

First day of preliminaries is behind us. It has been raining the whole day and according to a newsletter by the organizers, no better weather is expected until on thursday. Anyway the first round has been flown. The field is turning to mud and tomorrow we're going to go and buy some rubber boots. Our planes, clothes and all equipment except the transmitters are wet and drying in our hotel room. Other than that, a great first day of competition ;-)
If Youre interested on the used equipment, a quick calculation from the pilots introduction on the leaflet given to teams on arrival show there are about 25 pilots flying the Hacker, 18 with YS 4-strokes and 7 with OS 2-strokes. One Webra 145, one SM-30 petrol engine, one Plettenberg outrunner, one Cyclon and one Axi. The ratio of electrics to internal combustion is about 50/50.

Uh-oh... Not so good weather out there... Buochs is about in the middle of that map.
(Too bad someone invented work, but I'll be heading to Buochs on Friday and Saturday).

Rankings from the first rounds....
Looks like CPLR pulled a rabbit out of the hat on #3.....same score he got in France that blew everyone away!

Did you normalize the scores yourself?
Its not fair to normalize and compare after three rounds because not everyone has flown the same rounds....for instance you have RM with 1000 in two rounds, but the round he 1000's in CPLR has not flown yet!
Much better to just compare raw scores until the end, after the computer normalizes and does TBL!
Here are the 3 round raws.
1 PAYSANT-LE ROUX Christophe FRA 1834.00 585.20 618.00 630.80 0.00

http://www.em06.ch/ranking/p4/liste.pdf for the complete list. No team list yet, but it doesn't take much to find out (provided I punched in the right numbers in my calculator...):
1. FRA 8680.97
2. LIE 8451.56
3. AUT 8359.8
4. ITA 8307.90
It looks to me that:
- the duel is between CPLR and RM, others are quite a bit behind these two. These two are stellar, no other word to describe them. I *wish* I'd once have a score sheet that looked at least partly like one of those...
- Austria is going very strong as a team, as is Italy (not necessarily to be expected)
- IMHO Germany and Switzerland with good results but not so good as they might have expected, especially Germany
- The Matt's are fantastic, as are the *PLR brothers.
Will be there on saturday (no friday) and hopefully report from the "battlefield"... Now where did I leave my rubber boots...
Regards,
-Fabrizio

Terrible shame about the weather, looks just dreadfull.
I'd hate to have to go out and fly when it's raining... never mind having to pull off a great flight when the pressures really on like it's been with the top 2.
Judging from the pics, folks must be breaking cloud base. Is this happening occassionally?

Newsflash!
Kimmo phoned a moment ago and told that Stéphane Carrier had crashed on the 1st semifinal round :-(
Fail safe went on in the triangular loop (?) near the end of the schedule. The flight had been really nice before that.

The semifinals came to an dramatic end. The last flight of the second round was again Stephan Carrier, now flying his B model. Sometime in the middle of the program the plane just continued at medium throttle straigth out of site. After a while the control partly returned for a while, the plane did some curves and then dived straigth into ground. Luckily nobody was hurt in the accident.
The same frequency was used by three other pilots and they did not have any problems. Stephan was using a different transmitter on his second flight so that was not the problem. He was using an short type antenna instead of the normal telescopic antenna which may or may not have something to do with it.
A real shame, the youngest pilot in the semifinals, beautiful flying and two magnificent ZN built models totally lost.
The finalists are:
1. CPLR FRA
2. Roland Matt LEI
3. Sebastiano Silvestri ITA
4. BPLR FRA
5. Gerhard Mayer AUT
6. Wolfgang Matt LIE
7. Markus Zeiner AUT
8. Benhard Shaden SUI
9. Helmut Daksamueller AUT
10. Marc Rubin SUI

Kimmo,
thanks for the update. I'm planning on coming tomorrow: do I still need rubber boots? Is it still wet?
Austrian team still going very strong, as is the Swiss team (2 pilots in the finals, not bad!). Too bad for Carrier, but he's young and we will sure hear of him again in the near future...
