Thanks Gary. There is a lot of work to do as far as the finish is concerned.

Steve,
Man you've done a lot of work, it's looking good. Thanks a lot for the pictures, they already answered some questions I've had. BTW, the pull/pull wire I bought is nylon coated, good point you brought up.

Gary,
Do you have some names of your other customers who are building the quarter scale that I can contact? Steve's pictures are a great help, but I could also use some of the quarter scale.

Goodmorning, Thank you. Yes these kits are a lot of work. But if you take your time and just study a point in construction that confuses you you will at some point come up with a solutation. Anyhow that is how I build, reach a tought point, look at it and then walk away and think about it.

Here is a pointer for those of you who are building a 1/3 scale Waco, may work on the 1/4 scale as well. At the point on the firewall where the upper and lower longerons meet, I put a wood (servo) screw horizontaly at all for corners(through the upper and lower longerons and the upper and lower cross braces). I then ran four screws through the front of the firewall on the upper and lower cross braces. The reason I did this is the firewall is kind of thin and I'm useing a very powerful and heavy engine RCS 215 Radial. Just some back up strength. Also. where the drag wire posts come throug the lower longeron I put 3mm plywood on both the fron and back side as this post just goes through the balsa. This gives much better support for that part when you tighten up the nuts.

I am also forgoing the counter weights on the lower wing as I have one 255oz/torque servo in each bottom wing. Those counter weights are supposed to counter any flutter you might get in the alerions. But If you are useing a smaller servo you may want to use them. or 4 servos(one each wing) you can also delete them.
If i get flutter with a 255oz servo It will be just a fraction of a second before the wings come off.

Anyhow now off to work.

Steve

Gerry, Hi how you doing? welcome. I have a friend in Rotterdam who is a master modler, He is at some point going to start his 1/3 Barth Waco. You my know him. His name is Kris Knudsen, This guy is like a machine when it comes to building, very very precise. We have never met in person but I would consider him my best friend in this hobby. He is just a wealth of knowldge as far as R.C. goes.

Anyhow welcome to the site and all help you can give is nice.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your welcome, nice to hear. But first let me apologise for my bad English writing, hope you haven’t too much trouble reading my English “codeâ€. Main thing for me is being understood, so far so good I guess.

So you like to praise Kris’ modelling skills? Well I sure can say you’re so right about that! In fact I can’t name one plane in his “hangar†which isn’t, in my opinion, close to perfect. In his opinion although, there is always something that needs to be improved, from the shape of the mounting wires between upper/lower wings and fuselage (what’s the word?) to the fine tuning of the giant 140 cc 3W boxer mounted in his 1/3 Stearman, it all has to be perfect. I guess I have to consider myself a lucky guy having such close friendship with Kris, a wealth of rc knowledge indeed and always willing to help others. Having in mind travelling from my place to his place is easily done by foot, I have to consider myself double lucky.

I’m afraid Kris will let us wait seeing progress on his 1/3 Waco since he’s being occupied by the other heavenly creation of god, in compare with modelling a much better smelling, looking and less dusty creation. The only bad thing about this creation, it takes more time by far and is a lot more expensive, a hell of a lot . Keep in touch.

Grtz,

Gerry

Mitch it should be between 0 and 2 degrees positive, If you build the fuse right the cabane struts will automatically be set at those values. Mine came out at 1.5 degrees .

Looks like you're about ready to cover. Give is a call at F&M Enterprises (817-279-8045) and we can help you with widths of finishing tapes, where to install them, stitches and such.

Peter manufacturers a great kit and it looks like it's in a craftsman's hands. GREAT JOB!

Hi Chip, You are a bit late. I already have the polyfiber on the wings and fuse. The first 2 coats of poly brush are on as well. I'm just working on the seams where they attach the fabtic to the wood panels and some fiberglass parts. Almost have them at the ..where the hell are the seams stage, but not yet.
Thanks for the nice words

Hi Steve:

As Ray Stits used to tell me "We can make a quality product but we can't put craftsmanship in a can". Sounds like you're coming along nicely. Just curious if you know or have heard of Charlie Nelson and Graeme Mears? Charlie goes by the nickname of Mr. Waco. He campains a Waco every year at Top Gun. Graeme is also a world class modeler and he did a model you would have sworn from the pictures you could jump in and fire up the radial. Both are excellent resources for info.

Wouldn't it be great if we could "click for full size" and it actually did!

Steve,

Do you have a picture or a recommendation on the size spring to use for the tail wheel pull/pull controls? I'm going to have to pick some up at the hardware store, probably tomorrow.

Thanks,
Chuck

Steve, I just checked the construction manual and it calls for the upper wing to be at -2 to 0 degrees. Did you mean yours was at -1 1/2 for standard construction? Mitch

Hi, No I have not heard of these two builders/flyers. I have just got back inot R.C. after about 15 years of being out of it. The only thing that has really changed is the Radios and the cost. Yikes!!!

The ones I'm using are about an inch long and what I would call a moderate tension. I will send you a photo as soon as I get my camera back from my daughter. Guess what she is getting for Christmas?

The main point of this spring is to take the shock of any sudden jars away from the servo gears if you hit anything . But you should be able to get a pair for about a buck at most hobby stores or hardware stores. I got mine at a place out my way that handels surpluss electronics and such. This place has so much stuff it took me a hour just looking around. They also had a bazillion tiny rivits.

You are correct, Mine just turned out that way ( 1.5 degress) but anywhere in that range will do. Like I said, if you build to the plans and install those brass tubes that hold the cabane struts and you place the tubes on the proper bulkheads just as in the plans you will come out O.K.
I placed my incidence meter on the center section of wing and after making sure that the fuse was level it showed 1.5 negitive, however if you turn the meter around and look at it from the othe side it shows positive. That is because of the way the scale is marked, one side + the other - I messured mine looking at the fuse with the tail on my left or the starboard side of fuse if you were sitting in the plane. If you look at one of the posted photos you may see the meter on the center section.

Hi, Here are two different types of springs. I'm going to use the smaller of the two. Lindsey (daughter) was not here in time to get the camera. She is just like my ex wife, prompt no matter how long it takes.

Anyhow that is a standart Bic pen so you can see the size of the springs
