This is a Unionville 8' Otter kit. Only about 80% complete at the present time.

That is one darn fine first attempt! Could you tell us more about how you made the details like the door hinges?

Thanks, the door hinges are made out of plastic "T" stock and shaped to try to match the original. The other half of the hinge is made from a piece of channel plastic that was found in a plastic storage container to hold the paper tag. The pins are just regular pins.

This may be your first attempt at RC scale. but your attention to detail and some of your techniques tell me you have had some connection to scale models before. You do nice work. Would you be willing to offer lessons The only thing that gives the second shot away is the window. Your pilot has a pencil in his pocket and his wrist watch is set at the right time!!! Well, at least in 2 time zones Fess up ,you been building those jobers that sit on a shelf and collect dust for a long time havn't you?

Bravo!
Love the framework around the glazing, and the weathering looks fantastic.

And I thought that I was building scale models because I use wing bolts instead orf rubber bands.

nice work, I agree with all others above.
seeing you are from Canada, now it all makes sense
no dig on Canada of course, but being our good friend Nigel is from there
and his civilian work is awsume. figure it must be contagious.

oh, and before someone else ask, dont forget the dummy engine [8D]

nice work, look forward to the finished product

Thanks for the words of encouragement you guys. I am not new to flying model planes but I am new to the scale aspect. Yes I will be putting in a dummy radial. Some other facts include the 21,323 fake rivets on the wing alone, over 50,000 rivets total, the pilot was made from a Ken doll for the arms and hair and some action figure for the head. I could not find a true 1/7 scale pilot that suited. The shirt was made from an old white rag and hot glued together. I have also learned to do some vacuum forming with the air scoops, door trim, window flanges, wheel nests etc. The RCMP crest is hand paited. Here are a few more pics

You have done an excellent job on your first attempt. (Regardless of which attempt really it's very good work.)

I'm not sure which is scarier, that the wing has 21,323 fake rivits -- or that you COUNTED them!!!

I hope your count is not off by one My answer would be LOTS if I ever get around to doing any.

Very nice job indeed. If must be those long winters.

Have you built and competed in plastic models?

Carl

No, I never have done anything in plastic. My usual theory is that if you spend all that time on something and it doesn't fly, it is not worth it. I have of course built a fare share of planes over the years though. I never really thought of getting into scale but I went to the Canadian Nats and the Chatham scale event last year and got hooked on it. Now all I think about is scale scale scale.

Oh no, don't tell me that I hate Dr.Phil. I am taking the pilot out tonight and replaceing him with one that loks like Dr. Ruth. At least the Dr. Ruth one will look more Masucline

21,323 servo screws is going to amount to a might heavy model! The default technique for doing rivits is to apply small droplets of thinned white glue with a syringe or pin tip.
