another little bit done. I will start filling and sanding now to blend in mismatches and fill gaps. i am also planning on adding epoxy between the skin and sub-frame for added strength. After sanding the fenders will be added. then on to hatches, etc.

Looks really good to me so far...........do you ever hold scratch-building classes? I could stand to learn some new ways of doing things.

I will bring your track links to this weekend's meeting.

I do not think I could teach you anything in this hobby Rex. But i would take your money and you could sleep through the class. BTW this is a kit (it says so on the advert.) not a scratch build.

Are you saying that I am one of those old dogs who can't be taught new tricks? Also, I only go to classes that are free. The neat thing that caught my attention was the subframe that you "scratchbuilt" on your "kit" to support the exterior skin. That gave me an idea on how to do a future bucket list project a lot easier and better. Thanks.

Wow! This is tempting me to try to build an IS 3 out of plastic sheeting(just basic, little bit of water injection here and there) and generic parts.
...I need to get to the drawing board. Wait, Check out this...http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index..../page__st__160
Go to the JS-2C. Now thats gonna require some gears.(if your doing suspension)

Looks great so far kclank. Can't wait to see the finished model. One of the guys that comes up to battle with the N.E.A.D. boys has one and it is freakin awesome. I didn't get to go too the last meet and missed it but i saw the pics. Great model.<div> </div>

More pics. added the spare track mounts, spare fuel tank mounts and tanks, fabricated a travel lock for the gun, built more hinges and mounted the engine hatch, added some stowage, some tie down rings, and a pioneer tool.

Hey Sevo. In the center bottom picture of the 7 you had sent me before. Frontal view. Can you tell me what the object immediately to the left of the driver's view port is (as you are looking at the tan)? Some kind of mount or?

A small update. Started work on the turret. The turret supplied with the kit is a Juwa KV-85. I begin by modifying the mantlet, since the IS-2 is slightly different from the KV-85 as it is off set and a small bit wider. I have adapted a driven sprocket to the turret ring and positioned the turret drive motor. I am trying to use a modified Heng Long recoil motor. All things are moving pretty slow at the moment.

I'll be watching this as I will be doing a similar build only making a KV-122.

I finish this Sherman I'm working on, then return to the Panther I started way back I'll start another side project using the HL KV tank.
I have that same turret kit and a muzzle brake on the way. Around here somewhere is a barrel that should work and some DT late wheels that might look good. Should be a breeze.
After a while, all those Russian tanks start looking the same.

That is exactly the purpose of my first question in the beginning of the build. Did they supply an actuall IS-2 turret or the KVV-85. Obviously it is the KV-85.
I am not dissapointed but I would have liked to see an IS -2 turret especially with the price of these high end kits. It bugs me that they just substitute one for the other, rather than cast the proper turret. You are still doing a wonderful job kclank and it looks great. Looking forward to the finished product.

The cupola is slightly different. the IS turret is longer and also slightly wider. The gun mantlet as you stated is different. I know there was one or two other small differences. It probably really does not matter. The turret looks good scale wise with the kit, so no real issue. I just get a little bugged with the substitution thing. <div> When i pay good money for a specific item, I like that item to be as accurate as reasonably possible.</div><div>Kclank , I'm definitely not trying to get you upset. I love the job your doing and i really like the kit. I'm just a little flakey with some things. LOL</div>

I just now did some scale up measurements from a Tamiya 1:35th JS-2 turret, multiplied those measurements by 2.1875 (should be the factor for 1/35 to 1/16th up-conversion) and the numbers are spot on (plus or minus 5%). Can you tell me or show me the source of your data. BTW the cupola is also virtually identical. At the moment i am fairly confident of the relative accuracy of the JUWA KV-85 turret vs. the IS-2. I remain open minded to any reference material you can point me to, As always keep in mind different factories and versions. I am building a 1944 Chkz. Back to you.
