Dream setup.

Speaking in terms of guttywots only, what would be your best setup.
For example: I like the DBC RC3/Benedini but I'm really not crazy about the RX-18 and all the wiring, so it's not my dream setup. The El Mod for the Kkrad is well thought out and constructed, but I don't know about their other offerings.
So, empty hull and full pockets, what are you going for in terms of gearbox, motors, ESC, sound and IR?
For that matter, what do you prefer for recoil, elevation, etc as well.

I am getting ready to start my next tank.....I am torn between the slu and tamiya...... I was trying to run my king tiger with the dbu2rc last weekend and she was glitching all over the place( I think I may have to run a fan or toss the whole setup). Some of the clark stuff is looking very interesting. As of right now, Ithink tamiya is the most bullet proof but the cost of just the boxes and the controles is a killer.
here is the clark stuff

I know you stated guts, but my dream setup.....
Tamiya upper/lower hull
Elmod, tamiya recoil, HL stug elevation and HL traverse
Gears- either tamiya or I believe Impact makes a nice set
Cheers

If I had unlimited funds and an empty hull to fill up? Depending on the hull I would use type 2 3:1 gear sets from Asiatam/Mato or Impact TU's. all electronics would be vehicle appropriate Tamiya DMD's and MFU's with Tamiya control motor/gearbox's for Turret traverse, Gun elevation and recoil. if posible Tamiya speaker boxes as well. Expensive but plug and play bullet proof system. I do have one of the SLU's for the Panzer III/StuG that I am going to try. I am hopeful this will be a less expensive alternative to Tamiya gear. Only thing I have heard about the SLU's that is not compatible with Tamiya IR battle system is the number of shots vs. speed.

Sound quality
Benedini, Beier El Mod. The Benedini card can be used with any RC receiver. THe DBC3 just makes it simple and intergrates everything wiht the IR features as well.
If you are having isses with a DBC try a higher power battery. The DBC does not like a weak ground. 3800 mAh or better is what I recommend. Always start a battle with a freshly charged battery.
There is a new German ESC Tank controller with Battle IR that use the TBS mini for sound. I think I would look at one of those.
THe new EL MOD package looks pretty good too, but I have never been able to master the transition sound files between idling and moving so I always end up with an abrupt change that is noticable to the ear. It is a fully integrated package.
Tamiya may be rock solid, but they just aren't up to the level of the three I mentioned in sound performance, so that is why they would fall off my wish list. I would like to see how well a TBS mini would perform with a Tamiya system. The battle sounds on the Tamiya are fine, if they could be used with the Benedini engine sounds.

Dan, you mentioned the German esc w/Benedini. Do you have more info on this? I know you mentioned it before, but I have searched high and low and can not find anything on it. I too love the sound of the benedini, but I am just not convinced yet on the use of the RX-18 for the esc. It would be nice if this german esc you speak of could have the same or close to driving response like the elmod units with the sound quality of the benedini. Thanks

I actually like the 35rctank electronics that was fitted to a Leopard 1a4 and was posted here some time as a video where the gun was stabilised on 2 axis if needed. Tamiya only has stabilisation on the vertical axis for the Leopard 2a6

Here is a link to another the German Battle system that uses the Benedini as well. All in German though. Also currently their system will knock out turret rotation and gun elevation after so many hits. I have asked then to dumb it down and leave that as an option so this set up would be completely compatible with Tamiya. They also sell and adapter cable to use a Tamiya apple. That was the only input I had into this set up.

Again this is not an inexpensive set up, but it is a way of using the Benedini in a battle system and getting away from the RX 18( Although I love the RX 18)

Thank you Dan.
. A lot of options out there. Just checked them out, pretty impressive. And I see they are working on a 1/6 version, which when I am caught up on my other 1/16 projects I want to dive into 1/6 and scratch build one. I can't comment on the rx-18 because I have not had one yet, I am thick headed and can't get past that cam style elevation, if there was a way to by-pass that I would gladly purchase your set up.

Wade

There is a way around it. You would have to run a parallel servo cable from your receiver to a servo that ran the gun elevation. I will experiment on this idea when I am building the Leopard I am working on.

Any more news on the "Mamba"? I would consider the Mamba as an option for my HL tanks.
#17
The Mamba is currently being tested. HAs soon as the boards are ready I'll let everyone know.
As an fyi and the biggest change with the Mako boards now is they are compatible with the new Taigen Tanks that have the 2.4ghz radio systems.
As everybody has heard by now taigen was not so smart and they came out with there own IR battle system when they launched these new tanks/boards.
I would of thought having such a small share ( if you can call it that ) of the tank market would have drove them to the standards already in place.

It works fine. My Stug traverse is servo driven, all movement is guided by the Rx, not the board. Sound is provided by the Benedini.
