Default Tamiya Speed Controllers

Gentlemen:

Can any of you tell me the difference between the Tamiya TEU-105BK and the Tamiya TEU-104BK speed controllers?

Comparing the manuals doesn't help much but the obvious difference in the pictures is that the 105BK does NOT have a plug to go into the RC receiver battery slot....whereas the 104BK does.

If this is the only difference am I to assume that I will need a seperate battery supply for the RC receiver if I use a 105BK controller?

And if that is the case.........then is there any reason NOT to use the 104BK and just run the RC receiver off the 7.2v battery supply as seems to be the case because the 104BK has such a plug?

I intend to use one of these to operate an RC armored car because they are so small.

Thanks Paul

The receiver needs less than 7.2. A BEC is usually needed if the speed controller has it. if not the receiver needs 4.2 to 6.4 volts. some speed controllers have the BEC so no out side power is need for the receiver, but if it does not have it you need to provide a battery or power source of 4.2 to 6.4 volts to the receiver alone.

What does BEC mean....guessing its battery external connection???? And since the -104 has that extra wiring does that mean i run the receiver off the 7.2 battery by way of the wiring connector from -104 ???

Battery Elimination Circuit. In the early 80's they were a god send. No more AA or rechargeable battery packs to power the RX and servo's to deal with.

The TEU101BK, TEU104BK and TEU105BK operate the same. The only difference is that the 104 allows LiFe batteries to be used while the TEU101BK does not support them and the 105 has support for some radio systems that do not have a “bec” circuit.

The major plus of the TEU-105BK over its TEU-104BK & TEU-101BK predecessors is the inclusion of a built in BEC. This means the TEU-105BK is a direct fit with modern Rxs, without having to use a separate BEC harness.

cheers
