Hi Martin
Very good results!!!
I've always felt that aerograph wasn't neccesary for this camo...very nice and real finish, with your ability in weathering the final result would become excellent.
The comment about the Rommelkiste was just a curiosity, never intend to make an HL Tiger reach such a detail level, there are too many inaccuracies involved in the original HL injected parts and it would become impossible to go "true sccale".
Continue with your Tiki, I'm seriously thinking of park my sPzAbt.501, 142 and give Tiki a go with some of my other bodies.
Regards
Jose

Looking great so far. However, the yellow blotch of paint right behind the word "Tiki" is slightly off, mate

Your more demanding than the missus!!

I will try a nip n tuck, but i am busy on the lower hull at the mo, the spare track holder at the front is of course differnet on a HL, I am playing around to try and get a closer looking result.

Lots to do but I am happy with the likeness, you could sit and pick all day but that would be pointless, for me its close enough.

Oh I dissagree, I wouldnt say it was tough at all, I guess I mean is as long as I am happy with it then then job is done. I think the whole effect is more important than having an exact copy. The two marks to the rear are not angular enough, and could be extended a touch more to replicate the photo, apart from that the overall effect is closer than any I have seen yet. My goal was to get it close, I think its more than close right now, besides Ive got to move onto weathering sooner or later.

Hi Martin
Sorry I forgot these (no more doubts about upper surfaces). Hope czechs are well informed as I see some differences (exhausts shrouds, Tiki in "Dunkelgelb", who knows?)....

Martin, your Tiki is looking very good. I did one a while ago. Here are some photos. I added the $200 Aber photetch set (not all of it but most of it).

Yes thats great uhu thanks, I will have to maybe do a little changing now we have these. The shrouds do cast a little doubt, and i wonder where the artist got the extra info from??? maybe he/she guessed it too? Well I have nothing else to go on so what he heck, I will follow those.
Thanks again

I have been away on business, but i have progressed with the camo, pics to come maybe tommorow.
In the meantime, I am looking for a pair of bosch lights, they do not have to be LED type as I wont be 'illuminating' them. If anyone has a spare pair I can trade for a brand new unused (metal) single version with mount and wires for a late production Tiger that Asiatam sent me by accident.
Pics coming soon of Tiki progress.

OK, the weathering will darken up the finish, but this is how things are looking. Time to put the brushes down for a bit now and get the build finished. Then I can complete the whole effect. I have some brass sheet to make detail like straps, bin lids etc etc.

Nice TIKI!!!
You're a true master of painting.
As you've obtained a very good-looking Tiger, there is a pair of details you must add.....no excuses plz
1: Vision slits, eaasssyy, just two "dremel" strikes...
2: Lifting mushrooms, two small discs of plastic....
Your Tiger merits these two small details, Kursk awaits.
Congrats
Jose

Oh yes, promised.
I have those in mind. I have modified the rear turret stowage also. I will even make the periscopes for the front hatches, will use putty to sculpt them in.
seen the one below before?

well, the tough bits are happening. Having to get this tank right without aftermarket stuff is testing my mini fabrication skills. The stowage bin is a challenge, making hinges and supports etc. Well this is what I have so far, as always they seem to look better innatural light. The bin basically need to be made larger and tangential to the turret curve. I used plastic card and some brass sheet I had. For the lid hinges and clips, just chopped up brass angle, i liked the bent and used effect hey gave as opposed to neat and new looking Aftermarket etched stuff. These things get battered and twisted over time and that is the effect I wanted.
Next is to paint the stowage area, fit decals and give the tank one deep and dark flat wash to age the paintwork. I am not going for any battle damge, just the curled fender on the RH side as seen in pics. Just chipping and a few rust runs and she will be done on the outside.
Jose, can you confirm these 'mushrooms' are the turret pivot points??? I think that is what you mean?
cheers

Hallo Bill
Eheheheh....."a simple modification"....eehhheheh!!
Each time you post an image I feel the urge to begin with a Tiki. I like the idea of not over-damaging your Tiger. Nice hinges and supports details. Keep on with your nice work!
The "Turmhebepilzen" also known as "Pilzen"(mushrooms) were the tower lifting points (3) mushroom-shaped.Two were fitted at the outside of the gun trunnions and the third at the rearmost upper middle of the turret. The reproduction of the side "Pilzen" needs just two disks of any suited material to be cemented to the outside of the existing HL trunnions. The rear "mushroom" is a little more difficult to implement in an HL Tiger, as you need to increase the depth of the hole between the stowage bins. maximum inside depth is limited to 7mm if you intend to keep the firing mechanism.
The sketch comes from the Tiger Info Center and has real quotes in mm.
Hope it helps

Just some pics in natural light. Almost done, just need to add the mushrooms, cut the slits in the turret, sort the hatch and launchers.

Thanks Martin for taking the time to photo document your progress. You have a splendid Tiki there. Excuse my ignorance, but what are these slits in the turret???. I would like to detail my Tiger as well

No problem, the slits are on the side of the turret, as shown below. uhu tells me a dremel or similar is an easy method.
