Would it be possible for a early to mid Tiger I to have metal road wheels and still have the Fiefil air cleaners? Would it still have the earlt style coupola also. just wondering. i would love to be able to use the steel raod wheels but dont want to have to make the whole tank a Mid or Late version.

Thanks Jake. I knew I had seen pics of a tank in this configuration. Mine has the spare tracks on the turret anf the front also just like Fehrmans. I'm not sure of the camo scheme on the second link though. By 45 all the tanks where using the three color camo in one form or another. I dont believe there where any Grey Tigers at all by then.

The mid Tigers have the new style cupola like the Panther tanks. They also relocated the headlight to the center of the frontal armor. The air cleaners are also gone. othe differences are pistol port modifications and i believe the engine covers may have changed. I'm sure there are othe differences but can't think of them all at the moment.

Does anybody know if I can use these metal road wheels on my Tamiya FO Tiger 1? http://www.rccommand.com/German%20Tiger%20I.php

Hey SoulAssassin - here's a link to a good web site about Tiger tanks. Shows all stages and explains what changes were made and has lots of pics.

I think for accuracy you'd need to lose the feifels.
Hybrids were by no means unusual in the closing stages of the war when resources were scarce, and may well have cropped up from time to time before then as battlefield conditions necessitated, but the air filters were only ever fitted on early Tigers destined for the DAK and some parts of the eastern font where dusty conditions were anticipated in summer.
The air filters are VERY easy to remove on an HL tiger - just unscrew then fill the screw ole with a little putty and you're done

No Soulassasin. you cant use HL style wheels on a Tamiya. the tamy's use proper axels with bushings or a actuall bearing if you like. the HL's just use a solid axel.

Wecohe may make steel wheels for the TigerI but I cant say for sure. I dont ever recall seeing any, Sorry buddy. As far as the fiefels go, they were used well into 43 so like you said the hybrids could have damn near anything on them. I'm not looking to go 100% rivet counting here. Was just asking cause i would like to ditch the plastic road wheels because I just got the metal hull upgrade from RCComand. It would be a shame to stick those wheels on that hull. wouldn't do it justice.

as far as I know - No
The Tiger production run was over and done with well before the late 1944 paint instructions that stressed large ammounts of green paint was issued.
The Olive Green Tigers seen in Colour Tunisia campaign photo's are widely believed to be a result of oxidation / other chemical contamination of the original prints (or just flat out wrong recolouring!).
Hope this helps

I always thought some of the DAK tigers were olive green was because they ended up being painted with captured paint from the americans

Your correct about the steel wheels, BUT Ferhmans tanks where all cobbled together for his unit from tanks at the training grounds. So with a little artistic license you could say anything goes. His tanks all had steel wheels on early Tiger tanks. At least the turrets where from early's. They all had the oil drum cupola's.
