I recently got an LRP z.28 Spec3 pullstart for my ST-1 and it ripppps!!! Sooooo much more power/speed that the stock TTR engine. I also bumped up to a 14T CB and a Dynamite 086 pipe. Very pleased with the performance. I was getting bored with the power of the stock engine and the LRP gets me excited again. Easy to break in and holds a tune really well.
nice, im considering one, whats the "run times" per tank, i hear its nice but it drinks fuel [>:] well the St-1 moto's offically dead, ran it at over 450 for about 5-8 mins, it was super worn out anyway *sigh* time for a new one

I haven't timed te LRP but it seems no worse than the stock TTR...maybe even better run times. However, I've just broken it in and I'm not pushing it real hard (WOT for 5 sec bursts). My decision was between the LRP, Picco (pullstart), or JPX 28. I didn't go for the JPX because I didn't want to get a starter box....so, it came down to the LRP and Picco pullstart. I didn't go with picco because of the possible carb issues (easy to seal though) and more picky tuning. I just wanted something easy to work with. I'm no expert, but I was able to easily tune and keep the tune on the LRP and it runs perfectly.

XTM - I have these on my ST-1...works perfectly and you can use the stock pins. However, I've already had of the pins come loose and fall out...not the hub's fault. You may want to order some spare hub pins.

nice, ya, the picco sounds nice but seems more like a "seat of your pants" tuner, very sensitive from what i hear but i guess the power is just past NUTS, i may get the LRP or an STS (sts is nice with the cheaper price )

I pushed the LRP pretty good and got between 8-9 min on a tank...and it was probably set a tad rich. It seems that the LRP has better runtimes than the stock TTR mill (I was getting 7-8 min/tank).

I'm new to the Nitro world and just stopped by the local hobby shop to pick up a few extra glow plugs. I told them I have a Thunder Tiger ST-1 and the sold me O'donnell Red plugs....will these be OK?

msg73 how did you mount your LRP? Im using the same engine and I had to rig up some mounts so the pull start would clear the chasis. I think Im going to order the roto start back plate for it.

Hey guys! I've been away for Christmas with my wife and family in the mountains, however I did have time to break in my new Jammin JPX .28!!! What an amazing engine. The quality is superb. I sealed the entire engine and carb before even thinking about putting it in the car. Used the heat cycle break in method and have put about 6 tanks of fuel through her thus far. Reason I broke it in there was the condo we stayed at had a huge heated parking garage. So instead of waiting till it warms up this spring, I did it in there! I haven't tuned it for performance at all yet, still rich. But the last tank I tried opening 'er up once or twice to 3/4 throttle 1.5 turns rich and the thing just screams. I am using an 053 low end pipe, but wow...

Here's a few pics of the engine and sealing it up.

BTW my starter box easily turns over the Picco. I was worried before, but it's not a problem. Despite it's massive pinch, it's still no match for 16V of lipo power! I only preheated the cylinder/heat for the first 4 runs for a smoother liner break-in. Turns it over from cold easily with this much power.

Also, thanks for the BCE note bean. I'll do mine up soon. I managed to pick up a new full set of LRP BowTies M2 and rims for $30 at my LHS's boxing day sale!!! I couldn't pass that up.

Cheers guys! I can't wait to fully tune and try this engine out. I redid center diff with 20k wt this time around, 5k rear and rebuilt all my shocks. Went with 60wt in all shocks too. This setup should let me wheelie this truggy no problem on the JPX.

Keith - I had to shim it about 1/4" to get the pullstart to clear the frame. I use some scrap metal that I had and cut it to size. You still need to shim it if you get a rotostart as the motor casing for the back plate would still hit the frame. I was thinking of the tigerdrive, but not sure it would work...which one were you thinking of getting?

Thats kind of what I did.
I was looking at the LRP back plate. It says its compatible with the HPI roto start. I was thinking then that it might sit low enough to use the starter box and I might even be able to put the HPI pull start on it.
I was hoping someone else here had tried it.

Hi ST-1 owners,

My friend just purchased his first Nitro Rc last week and it was the Traxxas Slayer. This prompted me to want my first Nitro as well. Never owning one before, I was looking for something that could compete with has new purchase without paying the $500+ he did for his at hobbytown. After searching around on the internet I was debating between a few models with the ST-1 being one of them. After seeing Bronx Boy's post for the $199 at Ultimate Hobbies my decision was easily made for the ST-1 RTR and I ordered at the $199 (THANKS Bronx Boy!)

So my question now is probably pretty obvious. Will the ST-1 RTR compete with his Slayer out of the box? His is also stock out of the box.

If not, what would be the lowest cost upgrade to compete beat his Slayer. Lowest cost being key, because I would derive much greater pleasure beating his Slayer at 1/2 the price.

Thanks

diff oils, 7 front, 10 mid, (real thin or nothing rear), and harder shock oils, maybe a 14T clutch bell (makes it more "linear"), i think the slayer holds no chance against an ST-1, wing also helps, makes it a "truggy"

I've seen many posts from new guys to the ST-1, and I'd like to add my own...

I'm going to be selling my Monster GT for an ST-1 Pro from Amain. The Monster GT's transmission just cannot handle the power I'm putting to the wheels with my Brushless motors. My question is, how tough is the drivetrain on the ST-1? I searched words like, "Stipped" and got nothing, so it seems like it must be very tough.

Thanks for the help,
Evader -> MGT (soon to be ST-1, lol)

And are the carbon fiber parts worth the extra $20 or so?

so far with over 5 gallons of abuse ive had 0 stripping.... problems, the gears seem fine when i check them, i don't have any carbon parts but i hear its better for racers (just what i hear), sounds like your getting the Kit, that comes with boatloads of goodies leme say this car hasn't let me down yet (and its seen some beating, im shocked over 5 gallons and nothing other than the motor is "broken"!)

Cool, thanks!

I had the MGT for over 8 gallons and for 2 years. It's been good, but the dang drivetrain is painful!!! Even with all metal gears (8.0), it still has slipping issues. I don't think there aren't any OWB's in the ST-1, so I'm a happy camper! I can have reverse and 60mph!!!

And yeah, it is the kit! Thanks for showing me that! I thought it was RTR, but this will be my first complete build, and first Carbon parts! I can't wait!!!!! [>:]

And when did you take the jump into nitro? Didn't you have the 18MT for a while?
