+1 With a good motor and good servos the st-1 is pretty fast. I raced all season with it and in the end got pretty fast with it. With the steering mod it can out turn my rc8t easily. Upgrade the st-1 and wait till next year for the HB d8t would be your best bet. I get the impression you want a cheaper kit and the HB should be if it takes after the d8 buggy.

I am talking about the truggy. NOT the buggy. Yes I like the CEN truggy a little better, I am just talking right out of the box. But if you are planning on racing alot and need to get stuff up to snuff I think with the GS you will be able to put less money into it to be race ready. Just Bashing I would go with the CEN. I think the GS buggy is made better than a CEN buggy and again less money into the GS to go racing IMO. Again I have not seen the GS in person either. I am basing my decision off the similar RXT-1

Just wondering,no harsh feelings. I was researching the hobao and it seems to be one of the top truggies out there. Why did you get rid of yours? How does the hobao compare to the gs?
My engine and pipe combo will be a sportwerks v2 and dynamite 053 pipe
no servos yet

The Hyper ST PRO has sort of been a love it or hate it truggy with alot of people. I got rid of mine becuase of sucky brakes. Could never get them to work. If not for that I loved the Hyper, so does my friend who still has his. Others say they break really easily and cannot handle the supercross tracks of the US. Me, I did not have a problem. I think it is built better than a GS. Everything is really big and thick but that makes it heavy. I do not like the C-hub as I am a Pivot ball fan now.

Well after some research all in all this seems to be the best truggy in my price range. It steers like no other, its fast, agile, even though it heavy it can put down fast lap times. Also it can keep up if not do better then the 8ight-t and all that, especially steering. Does the kit come with a pipe, clutch shoes, and clutch bell? If i go with this do you think i made a good chioce?
i still have the gs and caster on the back burner but the hobao looks sweet

At my local track, a bunch of guys run The hyper ST. It's not the most agile and light Truggy on the market, but hey it's a good Truggy and it can be competative. I donno why guys say it's easy to break, cuz I think it's really hard to break. And the price is sharp too.
And It's an improvement over your ST1

Oh, I also would reccomend some good servo's Ace/Associated 1015 on the steer. The throttle/brake servo is less important, but don't get the crappiest one for the brake/throttle. About 100 Oz and 0.18 sec of speed should be enough. And if you don't have a FM system with EPA etc. adjustment, please look for one. You can get a good Futaba FM transmitter/receiver for about 75 bucks. Cuz otherwise you're gonna smoke your servos.

FWIW - I have done a lot of research on these boards and others for a new truggy over the past several weeks. I have been an OFNA nut since 1982 (original HODR), and initially leaned very heavily towards the Hobao ST PRO. However, after doing my "due diligence", I narrowed my choices down to the Caster K8T and the GS XUT. Further research of just these two had me landing on the Caster, and I was ready to order. Unfortunately, the catalytic converter on my truck now has to be replaced which is going to eat up the discretionary money that I earmaked for the XT8. I am not a happy camper because of having to shell out to replace the catalytic converter, but I WILL get that Caster XT8 as soon as I build up my funds!

Look around locally and see if you can find something you can actually look at. Make sure your not buying something worn out cuz then your good deal just went out the window. I personally would never buy used unless it was a race buddy who I knew maintained the car. I actually almost bought a roller from a guy in our club that was nice but for the price I was better of buying the rc8t new. Get good servos in what ever you decide because they make or break your overall handling.

I think if you're very careful and a bit lucky, a used roller from an experienced racer can be the way to go... I just did that with a buggy and engine, and it worked out..

I was lucky though.. You have to be VERY careful..

Chedzter makes a thoughtful point. Think: why does someone sell a roller? If they were getting out of the hobby, they'd be selling what would basically be an RTR or ARR. If they simply say they want a new racer, what's wrong with the old one they're selling? A good roller can be had, but it's a crap shoot. I've had good and bad luck with them over the years, mostly from eBay. Know as much about what you are buying as possible before commiting to and executing the purchase, and good luck!
