Everyone - Question - what type of FOAM do you use when you build? MFG and Type if you have it.
Also - once you cut it with the hot wire what items or materials d you use to shape the foam?
I have tried sand paper but that is only good for final smoothing and I even have issues with the sand paper so I think I have the wrong foam. What do you use to remove small amounts of material?
thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, all the pictures I had from that era are long gone. There are still some resources out there on the subject though. A Google search should pull some up.

Last post of 2013. Wife and I are getting ready to watch a movie. The area right in front of the wing is perfect for the 24 AA's required to run Gary's machine guns. I'll also have the fuel tank vent. Brass tube almost matches the diameter of the screws on the bottom, so the vent tube will be pretty hard to spot. I can only have the screws mounting the plate on the back, once my box is glued in, access will be tough, but I can still get in with an allen wrench. I plan to mount the moki pump on this board.

I wouldn't say it is 'way' overkill. I set up the 250s with 50ozs. I like to set my timer for 12 minutes, then take my time getting set up for landing with no rushing. One thing you never want to do with the Corsair is force a bad landing approach. At events and major fly-ins, the pattern can get busy when landing. Also, those high speed passes at near full throttle are exhilarating, to say the least, as are those huge loops with lots of throttle.
Here is the thing, the plane easily handles the weight (actually, I like a plane this size to be a little heavier), and the extra fuel can be insurance at times, giving you plenty of time to get her home safely in any circumstance.
Having said all that, I was thinking of changing the fuel tank in my P-47 because it has a 32oz and I went from an 80cc to the Moki 150, (was going to go to a 40oz) but after flying her, I'm keeping the 32oz. I do the same 12 min set up as before, and still have at least 20% of my fuel left after each flight. Sometimes a little more if I am working on my Top Gun sequence of maneuvers.
These engines are very efficient when you are running the electric fuel pump as you can lean them out more.

Greetings Corsair Pilots...I'm trying to fine reference for the main fuselage fuel tank stencil. Does anyone know if the F4U-1A had a circular stencil or just a two or three line text stating something like "Main Fuel Tank 237 Gal."
I like to make a Water Slide decal if there's a reference to copy.
Thanks,
Dick

Got it....thanks bud. Just from the photo you posted it looks like a beautiful Corsair. If there's anymore pics anywhere I'd really like to see them.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I could see that being a concern. What are you using to regulate the cowl flaps? I have ten flights on my prototype and I used different settings. It was cold so I had set them to open at room temp. On start up they stayed closed, during flight from what I could see they were open. When I pulled in after a flight and rolled up the flaps were a little open, then once I stopped and the there was no airflow the flops opened to full, then as the engine cooled down they would close. I need to mount a wing cam to see what they are doing in flight. I can set my closed position however I want so they will always be open at complete closed position, then wide open if the sensor needs more. I will let you know how it works but for now I think they are great. In ten flights no over heating was evident, head tempts on landing were in the 200s.

After an engine is shut down there is a heat soak period when it gets hotter and then cools off. Thats the reason you saw the flaps open after the engine shut down as it expelled more heat then cooled.
You can observe this of LiPo battery packs after they are run hard as well. Its perfectly natural and your temp sensor seems to be working OK.

Hi,
I wanted to buy the ABS kit Graeme Mears but he told me that the kit is not available at this time. What a pity! Do you have another solution to finalize my corsair ?
Thanks a lot

Be assured though, she will fit in the cowl with clearance to all rockers with no rubbing or hitting the cowl.
