You need at least 36 volts for the sound system. I know weight is normally our enemy, but truly, this is not an issue with this plane and the Moki 250. Our Top Gun ship was around 70LBS, but performed asif it were more like it weighed 40. The AAs will not be an issue.

I had some time with the corsair. I went back and forth on where to put an access hatch on top. I decided to cut a big hatch as far forward as possible, following the panel lines. On my jets, the hatches are not hinged, just pinned on one end and hatch latches on the other, haven't decided which way I will go yet. I laid some bi-directional carbon on the area I planned to cut. I will add formers and box it up, attaching it to the firewall. It should be stronger than it was without the cutout. Love not having to worry about weight on the nose. This big hatch is gonna make it a lot more fun doing the install and maintenance.

On the bottom, I took Gary's idea. I cut out the hatch and have it swinging to the side, then another piece of wood with the fuel, air and some switches, will swing down and forward. I had a hard time getting the geometry right with the robert hinges, couldn't get the door to open past 90 degrees, the hinges did the trick.

Nice job with the hatch Doc. I like what you did with the CF.

Gary, Im starting to setup things to install your canopy retract system.

I cannot find the item that you put on the list as "rear attachment assembly"

Could you please explain me or post a picture to know what it is?

Thanks

Well, the index that Doc did is in post #2263. however, with the stupid way that RCU is numbering the pages now since the "upgrade" , using page numbers is impossible. Who makes the last page of book page #1? In this case, page #1 is always changing as more posts are added, thus changing all the other page numbers as well. The canopy install used to start on page 37 and now you need to go back to 58 to catch up with it. Anyway, I'll end my mini rant there. RCU, you need to fix this.

Canopy. Here is a picture of the rear mounting hardware. It bolts to the back of the canopy, and the nylon lock nut slides into the rail through a small hole in the fuselage just behind the rail.

Here is a picture of the canopy with that bolt installed. It is in the bottom rear corner of the canopy. See how it blends in with the other screws? All 270 of them

Here you can see the hole behind the back rail for that nut to slide into. Also notice the front mounting hardware in the front rails.

Here you can see the front mount installed to the canopy.

Thank you Gary for your time.

The part that I was looking for on your package is that metal or aluminum piece where the motor is attached to. Is that supposed to be used on the most recent system?

Thanks.

Gary, I just checked four different topics and they were still on the same page as before. I will keep an eye on it. That would suck if that spreadsheet becomes useless! I planned on updating it occasionally, but if the pages change, that would make it pretty tough. Going back and doing it by post # would be tough too because you don't know which page the post # is on.

Here is the spreadsheet again.

I took this pic at the air museum, pretty clear view of the gas cap. I cut the brass this morning at my office. Dental drills cut through brass plate very easily :-)

Does anyone have the graeme mears stuff not installed on a plane? I would kill to borrow them so I can copy a few. I have begged him to make more, he isn't planning on doing it. The main gear bays and the flap covers would be so nice!

From one Doc to another, where do you plan to get the circular brass part of the gas cap?

Thanks

Just a sheet of brass from the hobby shop. I cut them out today. Gary did a nice pictorial on how to make the cap, page 58. I am going to use it for the hatch release. I can't stand seeing a hatch release showing on the top of this model!

Here is my gas cap finished. It is going to activate the latch pin on the back of the front hatch. Thanks to Gary for the idea :-) I went to the LHS and found carbon rod and a corresponding carbon tube that fit into each other. Cut four 1" pieces of the tube, then slid the rod into them to facilitate glueing them in. I'll experiment with how much of the rod I can leave out to get it in and out. I think I am going to cover the hatch with G10 to hide the seam. Need to think about it a bit more.

Yes John. I replied via my phone. I'm seeing that does not always work. Not sure why. I'll get with you via email from home.

Oh, I see.

What I provide in the kit are the parts to slide the canopy, and what you need to attach it to a drive system of your choice. Air or electric.

The part in the picture was custom manufactured for me and was a one-off. It did the trick of eliminating air, but I want to improve on it.

I am currently developing a little different electric system using two motors, that eliminates the need for that 'spreader' part. I'll be posting details in the thread when I get it ready to install.

Got a little more work done Surprising what you can get done in twenty minute dashes out to the garage…LOL

Machine guns are pretty much done. Not gonna mount the speakers and wire it until I get the intakes in. On the machine gun fairings, they used philips screws, not rivets, I need to put the cross pattern in there. Any suggestions on a tool?

I use a small straight blade screw driver that I sharpen just a bit.

Fine work Doc. The gas cap looks very authentic with the embossing around it.

I wanted to make the aft antenna removable. Can't see it surviving transport if it was fixed. I took a piece of carbon fiber, and sandwiched it with two pieces of G10. using three-views in a bunch of books, i did the math on the height. Figuring out how off center it was was challenging. I took a bunch of pics of one on a full scale. Most of the three views don't have a seam down the middle, so its hard to gauge how much to offset from center. This is scale for me, not for competition, so its close ;-)

I made a little plywood pocket and indexed magnets to the antenna and the side of the pocket. There isn't much of a fairing, but I did put a little piece of G10 and I will add screws.
