Oh yeah, this is my subject, Eupupa E pops, as I live 15 min away from the FHC... I will do something most don't care for and fully replicate the "museum plane", all nice and pretty - LoL!

John, Have we met? I'm assuming you fly at Cascade??? We are going to have a whole squadron of these things! Hans has a mounting kit for the direct drive for us non-machining inclined. ;-) Your set up looks cool. All the ducting looks great. Should be able to avoid it with the duct kit Hans came up with.

Here are some pics from my 4am build session this morning. I really wanted to use torsion springs and avoid the air cylinders for the tail gear doors, but I couldn't find an assortment of them to buy, only one size at a time on mcmaster, and not sure what I needed. The air will probably work better anyway. The motor pics are from Hans, mine is hopefully flying over the atlantic right about now...

Can anyone spot whats wrong with the instrument panel ?? ;-)

Doc
Middle of page 49. Refrei2 posted long ago, no one has been able to get up with the fellow who made them.
Taking a wild guess re instrument panel. Either instrument panel too high or rudder pedals too low.

Hi Doc,

The caps you're talking about was made by Paul Haller a long time ago, if I remember he's from Denmark.
I was able to get a hold of him about 3-4years ago and he doesn't make the caps anymore so I decided to make a 3D drawing but I never had a chance to produce one.
Maybe with the 3D printers today it might be easy.
I also have all the drawings for the M2- .50 machine gun.

Thanks,
Roger

Hey Doc,
No I dont think we have met, but yes, if the field is open again in the spring, I will be there ready to go in the squadron.
I did find fuel caps for our scale from Chad Veich on RCSB forum. Just shoot him a PM and ask for them to be our scale size of .98" dia. He makes them him self, they look perfect and is very reasonable on pricing.

Wow Mike that drive hub sits way back from the front of the fuse.

Do you have a video link to see the Kolm with the mod timing running?
I like the sound of the triple because it has that 12cyl timing. I told Roberto I thought a two cylinder would make the Mustang sound like a Cub!

I agree Chris, the picture concerned me too. Find out soon. This was either a prototype, or they have a longer extension. It was supposed to be here on monday, got hung up in customs, not sure now.

The twin I got has the 270 degree timing, should not sound like a cub..... ;-)

John, engine fit looks like a lot of engineering. Plane looks good too. Good job. LBJ

Doc, I am skeptical about just using air from chin air scoop as the only source of cooling. Lots of 3W inline 80's (early in development of this plane) experienced rear cylinder burn up due to lack of cooling. Hans may have figured it out by increasing CC's in engine size. Save me a lot of ducting work if this is successful.
Guys the thread has been quiet.

It has arrived! This thing is heavy, I might be putting batteries in the back of the plane.

Charlie, I agree, I am skeptical as well. There are a bunch of people in Europe flying it with this baffle set up. Plus you have the air cooler vents and I will make sure that the rear opening is three times the front. I will have robbe temp sensors on both heads with telemetry. I also live in a place with a mild climate.

I can't wait to start working on mounting the engine.

Hey Dr. That's an awesome engine, just wondering if the sound will be similar to the Kolm 150cc 3cyl.
Are you adding a reduction gear on that?
Keep us posted and congrats.
Roger.

Roger, the sole reason I bought this motor and the P-51 was because of the sound. It is supposed to sound close to the 3 cyl. I have two mokis, love the sound, but when I saw the videos of this one I had to have it. No plans for reduction gear. It comes with a mounting kit for the CARF mustang that has the motor upside down.

Doc, WOW! Think I would spend months just staring at it. Can't wait to see it mounted. Please keep us posted on progress, pushing the envelope, more power!

John,

Wow!!! Nice work, super clean install, keep the pictures coming!!!

Are you going to have room for all your radio gear, air, etc. with all that duct work running through the plane?

Pretty sweet Doc! Love the starter. Please put a watt meter on that to see how many amps it draws because in one Kolm video I noticed the starter struggled to turn over. You dont want a fire or super hot motor in a confined space with gas!

I started a separate thread for the kolm install, back to doing other things on the plane. Chad Veich makes these awesome gas caps. Pretty reasonably priced too.

Hey Guys a quick question that's probably been answered before but I can't find it. I am looking for a nice cockpit for mine and I looked at the flytallies one. What size is going to be the best? 1/4 or 1/5?
Thanks!

I believe Alex at Iflytaillies suggested otherwise…. I would ask him. Pretty sure I got the 1/5th. Sucks that the card models are in between!

I would think the 1/5th scale cockpit would be the better choice.

Dr Scoles, I've just been checking back through the thread and saw the photos of your cockpit. May I ask where you got your pilot figure and what scale is it ?

1/5th…. tiny bit small for the mustang, but I used the 1/5 cockpit also… I just made sure I positioned it high enough ...

considering p-51...and installing a single head engine, how hard to keep it cool here in Florida and avoid oveheating? What engine and setup would you recommend?

Much appreciated
