Hi!,
can anyone please tell me whats the proper retracts opening - degrees for the struts to be perpendicular to the ground while the plane sits on its mains;
are they 90 or 85 degrees; i am asking that because of the dihedral of the wing
Thanks in advance , Jim.

Hi Guys,

Started painting and testing clears on the bottom of the wings.

Too shiny?

Jim,
Congrats on the flight, my hat is off to you navigating all those light poles. Great job!
Peter, I appreciate the work you did with different shades on the panels, looking good.

Great maiden! What did you use to get it so shiny? Is that flite metal? I am picking my fuse up tonight, then all the nomenclature goes on :-)

Thanks a lot for your kind words!
Thats ORATRIM CHROME self adhesive from ORASTICK. I applied it panel by panel ....about one month of work (not intensive of course) just for putting that on the surface of the model.

Applying the nomenclature. Either tailor-made has the scale wrong on a few of them, or the hatches are the wrong size…:-( I expect the latter. My subject is of a present day plane, half the stickers aren't on it, so I'm just kind of winging it. I am not a competitor, so I will do a mix of period and present day.

It looks like the skies over Europe in my garage!

All:
Not trying to be funny here. But have a question. Why is the CARF mustang so much more expensive than any other mustang? What comes with the kit? Trying to understand why the CARF is so expensive. Do the retracts come with it?

Thanks for not flaming me just trying to decide if this might be my next project.

DENTO:
Still need my question answered as to what comes with the CARF kit. However, Doing some preliminary math bouncing the numbers against the Meister and Ziroli kits. You can have a full blown, with all the goodies Ready to fly for about 2400 dollars US. If the CARF is just the airframe with no retracts, no engine, no servos etc. Not sure I understand the asking price of 1800.00.

That is why I am asking what sets CARF apart from other manufacturers when the price point (I am assuming) for the CARF is just for a nice airframe.

Thanks
Glenn

CARF models aren't really kits but ARF's. They use the term KIT to differentiate between the ARF that needs more internal work vs the one they complete for you. Thus, they have the bare bones ARF (KIT) and then the true ARF's, but not with the P-51; it's just offered one way. They have both versions with the F4U Corsair. The full ARF F4U saves time in doing the sub assemblies. With the P-51 ARF, the build and finish is done for you and you take it from there. Yes, you still need to supply all the goodies, but you save building time on the airframe. The P-51 has the "look" of a real aircraft with the wavy surfaces found on sheet aluminum. Plus, it's painted in the mold and you can fly it without additional painting. The fuselage is very light as I can attest. Mine weighs almost nothing for the size of the model. If you add up the numbers on the basic Meister kits, you will see well over $1200 plus you still have to do the build and painting. Meister is a great model, make no mistake.

But, to (try to) answer your question, CARF is priced for the guy who wants to skip the building and finishing and they are charging you for it. It's not necessarily worth it, unless it's worth it to you personally. Some guys build and some fly. Sometimes a guy can do both well. You have to decide that for yourself.

And, I've never seen a CARF that wasn't a great flyer.

Another point is the C-ARF is sooooo much closer to scale. The Meister Mustang is fun scale and the Ziroli is sport scale if left stock. The C-ARF is very true to scale outline and even the airfoil. It isn't perfect by any means, but it captures the look of the P-51 far better than most.

Are these exhaust stacks still available? The website says no longer taking orders. Is there another source that's superior to the CARF offering made for the CARF?

Tony (PSA) unfortunately passed away earlier this year from a sudden illness.

It's not clear on the fate of the business.

Default I gather 6" wheels will work just fine?

The Sierra strut can accept the larger gear then or are folks using a different strut than what CARF sells?

Does that mean there is still room for an inner door pneumatic retract and its plumbing in the well too?

Who makes the best looking/working low bounce 6 inch tire with aluminum wheel hub then suitable for an estimated weight of maybe near 50 pounds?

http://robart.com/collections/wheels...aluminum-wheel

wish these cam in 6 inches. Using a large engine so need all the ground clearance I can get...

Darryl at Sierra has wheels and tires for his gear.
