Folks, I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Luke and for his knack of this hobby. He is a naturally talented craftsman( I was absent from that class that day he was taking lessons, LOL and his attention to detail is something to behold. GAWD, he's GOOD!!!!!
Luke, thanks so much for having me over and for giving me guidance on my plane. You dont know how much I appreciate your help. (lets see here...., this time I brought over ribs- I wonder what a big sirloin and baked tater would do ? LOL)
Talk to ya soon- and tell Patrick I said hello too.
John
John I'm glad you had a good time, but you are way to kind! You did most of the work on your plane and you did and outstanding job!

Looking good Hal !! I bet it wont be long for you now to get her flying. Are you going to be #31 or #32 on the side of the fuse? Luke and I are going to have a 1 number difference on our planes I think (us southern boys gotta stay ganged together . How do you like the stencil from getstencils.com? Are they hard to work with or did you have any problem with them during your painting?
Thanks,....
John
Hey John, I’m doing #32, you’re doing #33 right? I don’t know if I’m a southern boy yet, got my bib overalls and white tee shirt, just waiting for my mullet to fill out![8D] The stenciles are easy to use, now ANYONE can paint their insignia and aircraft #. Heck they are even making tiny stencils for the various small markings like “NO PUSH” and things! Lol

I painted my insignia and #32 on to keep up with Hal! I only had a few problems around the raised panel line and rivet areas. Only with the glossy white though, the flat blue went on without any problems. It was easy to touch up the very small areas where it leaked under the stencil.

I am going to pour a mold for some 1/8 scale machine gun barrels, I will cast them in black resin. The last picture shows the machined aluminum master.

I took these pictures on my front lawn!
Chow,

Dion

Roger that Luke ; I'll be #33 if thats ok by you. Thanks for the compliment too.
People, even tho these are very nice pictures of Lukes hellcat, they do not do it justice - it is a sight to behold when you see it up close and in person and even then I had to sit down after I saw it to catch my breath !! FER-SHIZZLE!!!
The guns are awesome guys,... I even got to hold the prototype in my hand.
Bibs and overalls and a tee shirt that says I'm with stupid ,maybe even a straw hat Luke, but no MULLET!!!
Later,...
John

Here are a few pics of my CMP Hellcat taken this past 4th at our fly in. The wing was stripped and glassed. It was repainted using Model Masters paint. Powered by a Saito 100 which is perfect for this airframe. The retracts are a set of Century jet retracts which I reconfigured for my needs. It required about 7 ounces of lead over the engine to balnce it out. Flies great, and looks good as well. Hate to see it go, but a friend wants it more than I, so I will build another one soon maybe to a higher degree of scale.

Hi Luke . . .

The 'Cat keeps looking better and better. Hope those pages of markings helps you out even more. The only one I couldn;'t find was one that should read "Model fuel here." [8D]. I guess Hal will have to "read" his way around your Cat haha. The master for the gun barrels looks great. Please put me down for a couple of the gun barrel sets in addition to the cockpits and pilots. . . . You two have really helped a lot of us from an almost cat to a real scale bird. Thanks again ole buddy!!!!

Thanks Tomas, she does look good in those colors don’t she?! I’m finishing up the details on the wings and then it will get some paint, much easier to paint the wing.

Lol, John I like the mullet jokes! Of course I think you should paint yours #33, that’d be cool!

Ernie, Thanks very much for the drawings, they were a big help in making the small stencil lettering.

Got the smaller 32’s painted along with some more stencles that you can’t really see, but they look cool! I painted my landing gear and drop tank also, so it's slowly coming together.

Hey Luke,

Just wanted to let you know that this thread has been a blast to read. I have a CMP Hellcat that I have been flying now almost two years. But after reading this and seeing all the pics I bought another one to do your mods. This is going to be fun to do plus another friend is also doing it at the same time with the same mods.

I know that I emailed you on wanting to be put on the list for the pilot, interior kit and a extra set of doors. Just wanting to make sure I am on the list.
Thanks again Randy. P.S. the Blackwidow thread is starting to get me hooked also. Just might have to pick one up.

I have a "new in box" F6F Hellcat with all the Luke Zollner molded parts except the pilot. I am not sure of the manufacturer but it is the same as the CMP hellcat. The additional parts include the dummy engine, canopy, wheel well covers, belly fuel tank and the interior kit.
I have decided not to get into warbirds but to remain in 3D and aerobatic aircraft so I am offering this for sale. I will not split out the airplane or parts.
I am putting it on the RC Universe Buy/Sell asking $175.00 with the buyer paying the shipping.

Hi Fred, I have the same problem as you with the OS 120 inverted; the carb is alot lower that the center of the tank. What I did was to install an Ironbay fuel regulator that should take care of the problem . I have not started my engine as of yet but Ironbay assured me that this would take care of the situation. They are a little pricey at $45.00 but they have lifetime warranty
It works off of either muffler or crankcase pressure (muffler is better in my opinion) and it just hooks up to your carb and pressure source with a few plastic tee's- hey even I figured it out so it cant be that hard LOL!!!
Hope this helps you and feel free to shoot me an email if you have any ?'s Good luck with yours!
John

Hi John,I found the problem:when I was barking in the engine it ran out of fuel at full rich about 3 1/2 turns out,on the needle valve, so when I refueled to taxi the fuel just filled the carb.I readjusted the needle valve to about 2 turns and that did the trick and now the engine purrs.I will test fly it on sat.I did some taxi test and the plane tracks good but I almost wore out the robert tries do you know of a good set of tries that look scale they are 4"
thanks Fred

Luke,

As always, your work is beautiful. One small nit. The spelling may be off on one of your decals. "Octane" is general usage today. Not sure if "octain" was commonly accepted as well.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Tom! My brain works great in some areas and totally messes up in others. The decals will peel off before you clear coat so it's not a problem. I'll be back to work on this plane in just a bit, have another little job I need to finish. Here is a sheet that I used, I was just messing around with different stencils, not many of them are used.

So what does it take to get on the "list" of parts? I've tried dropping an email and PM to no avail.
Thanks.

I know this may not be an apropriate question[sm=confused.gif], but I'm a beginner and working on this very aircraft.

How crash resistance is this plane? I'm a begginer and was just wondering what to expect.

Your question is OK but the airplane is NOT for a beginner. Actually there isn't an airplane that is crash resistant. Buy yourself a high wing trainer , learn to fly it well with an instructor, work on the Hellcat , get an accomplished RC pilot to check your construction, let him fly it for the first flight, and only attempt to fly it yourself after considerable practice with the trainer.

Been flying this plane for a year now. Just ran in to this just last week end. I had heard of the fiberglass fuse warping in the sun. Mine hasn't done that but got some SERIOUS hor stab flutter on a high speed pass last Sunday. Control surfaces checked out OK. But the tail section seemed to have more flex than usual. Now it was a sunny 92 degree day and the plane was sitting out. I put it in the shade and left it cool. took it back up and strafed the run way again....no flutter... again no flutter... and again no flutter. My diagnosis is the sun and heat softening the fiberglass. Anybody else had this? Any slick fixes out there to stiifen the tail? Thought maybe a can of insulating foam artfully and sparingly applied.... LynnR

you guys do some amazing work, i am a m a z e d !!! but how do you guys do it? how do you fight the temptation to hurry it up and finish it? of course when you hurry one tends to do it rather sloppy. but anyways outstanding guys. well done.
so all cool mods to this once cheap ARF, one guys dad put a gasser in it and it flew good, anyone else? i think im gonna try to pursuade the old lady into one of these, thanks for contributing to this awesome hobby!
Raf-
p.s. anyone have videos of this beauty taking off and landing besides richard?
