RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
Well happy birthday Phil
Must be one hell of a poster!
That weather forecast is the most favourable one I have see for a Colt bash [&:]
zero % cloud in the afternoon, now there's a sight you won't see very often!
Hopefully going to maiden my Harmon Rocket III tomorrow to bring to the Colt bash for a bit of fun.
The 109 will hopefully attempting a few symbolic raids on the gathering
Till Sunday then . . .

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
Quick thechnical question for you all!!
After flying my YT109 for the first time I had to introduce several clicks of down elevator to compensate for level flight.
To correct this partly is it possible to add a little "down" to the ailerons and elevators to compensate slightly.
Would appreciate comments.
Well it's like pea soup outside still so the Rocket will have to maiden at Colt
That's assuming I can get it in the car with the 109 [&:]
Looking forward to more abuse when I arrive so I'll see you then!

Hi Jolly, in responce to your question of a few clicks down of elevator.......[X(] My SpitfireMk1a and Retlas Spitfie Mk9 all needed a hugh amount of down trim on the elevator and my jug, well I ran out of down trim on its maiden. Just stick to the elevator when leaving down trim in, there is no need to place ailerons a few click down to compensate the elevator.[8D]

Dear All
I would just like to thank all those who attended the Coltishall bash today (Oct15).
What a fantastic day a tremendous cross section of models.
Here are some static pics I managed to take.
I am sure Dibble (Mark) will post some flying shots shortly.
Thank you all once again.
Regards Phil Goff

Excellent shots there Dibble in difficult light conditions, you proudly retain your "Lichfield of Coltishall" reputation
Can I just pass comment on the excellent organisation and relaxed atmosphere of the meeting which was very well attended. NMAC certainly put on a good event every time and this was no exception. First class stuff
I did not snap too many pictures, here are some that I have selected. (Relax Muffler )

Dear All
Here are some more pics.
Where could you have gone yesterday or any other day for that matter and seen
a P38 Lightning in the air with a EE Lightning.
Three Lancaster's and two Hurricanes in the air together.
A very large Dak and a Banshee.
An A10 Thunderbolt in the air (briefly) with a P47 Thunderbolt
A Hawker Typhoon and a Eurofighter Typhoon alas they did not fly together.
A 109E with a FW 190D, a JoLLy nice duo.
The Coltishall Balbo X 2
First wave provided by the Corsair Club.
Which consisted of a Sea Fury P51 Mustang P47 Thunderbolt (With long range tanks )
P39 Aira Cobra and I believe there was another one which I can't remember.
Wave 2
P47 Thunderbolt X 4, Banshee and a P38
This was provided by the USAAF team + 3 guests.
The only downside of the day was that one of 242 Sqn's aircraft failed to return.
My Nephew James (Muffler) Fw190 went strait down for no apparent reason.
Now that the dust has settled so to speak and I can sit and take stock of things.
I am thinking to myself we were truly blessed yesterday at Colt.
What a fantastic day and it is thanks to all the modeller's who supported it.
Regards Phil G. 242 Sqn now stood down.

Dear All
I have just had an email from Phil Clark (USAAF/Fighteraces) they arrived home from Colt at 1:20am. I know that many other guests had traveled great distances to be at Colt.
That is why we are so grateful to everyone who attended yesterday.
Regards Phil G.

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
Dear all
Another fantastic day at Coltishall yesterday, even though I didn't do a lot of flying due to the fact of losing my beloved 4 year old 190, the reason? I don't know. I shall be having a look at the radio gear tonight, but I don't know if I will be able to tell as the 190 just went straight down. I was then reluctant to fly my hurricane because I didn't know waether it was the 190 radio gear at fault or the transmitter? So, better to be safe than sorry, especially with so many people present, I didn't want to risk it.
I would just like to say sorry for swearing after this happened & hope I didn't offend to many people.
Mr Jolly asked me if I would like the pictures of the crash scene & I've said yes & also said that I don't mind if he posts them on the forum, after all, these things do & can happen.
Regards
Muffler -190

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
Dear Muffler
Nobody likes to see any model crash particularly one that looks and flys as nice as your 190 did.
I think the order of the day must be to regroup and get the Sea Fury engine problems
sorted and it would then be a replcement for the 190.
And as far as I am concerned you can have sole ownership of it.
Regards PG

Ok at Mufflers request may I present to you all exhibit 1. This is what happens when the sticks are moving but the model does nothing! Almost straight into the ground at high speed. Nothing was spared! [&:] Hope you find out what caused the loss of control.

RE: For those who love World War Two Fighters
Hi all
Thanks Phil for the offer of sole ownership of the fury, but you know you are always more than welcome to fly it.
Mr Jolly, I can't believe you posted those pictures & with a headstone, only joking Mr Jolly I did ask you to post them (ow do!!)[:@]
So, did Mrs Jolly sting you for a full 3 courses and coffee? [:-]
Anyway, the crash team investigators have been busy, radio gear is functioning correctly apart from 2 servos where casings & gears have been smashed[:@] due to impact & nothing which would have happened during normal flight. Something kept churning over in my mind (horrible grinding noise!) the MVVS is normaly very reliable, usualy starts 1st flick, but was a bit of a devil to start on Sunday, but I just thought oh well, one of those days, then when checking full throttle, nose up, engine needed richening up quite a bit, but then was quite happy at this. Can you guess what I think the problem was? Well, I think I forgot to put the bung back into the filler pipe, got pressure into the tank for a little while, engine stopped on a turn but can't really tell because of other aircraft noise, stalled & down she went like a lead balloon.
When I had a look at the engine last night, the bung was missing, it was a very good fit (but only when inserted) so I don't think this came out on crash, it was never put in. To cut a long story short, ground crew error, myself.
Do you think this makes sense? I don't think I have done this before but have certainly learnt from it.
The wings are a lot worse than they look on the pictures.
Regards
Muffler
Here is a picture of the 190 (god rest her sole) taken a while ago by LL

Remember the headstone was your request, I deliver where I can
Took the boss to the Rising Sun. She made good use of Steak and chips with all the trimmings. No starter, no desert so that's a few quid saved towards the Shindin retracts (definitely a low maintenance Mrs )
Your theory has some credibility, it certainly was noisy on the flight line at the time so it could be possible. One check I always do with a receiver is to connect a servo into each channel and tap the receiver gently on a hard surface to see of the servo glitches. Any sign of sudden movement is an indication yo have a problem.

Another sad day at Coltishall they have dismantled the gate guardian Hurricane.
I think it is being moved to Buckinghamshire.[]
